Bro i recommend Dead memories its more musically lyrical
Each person had to kill their old selves but in the worst way they could imagine. Sid ate his fingers because as a DJ that is what he cherishes... Clown dies by fire, Craig (pinhead) is afraid of dogs and dog bites, etc... you get the rest.
@@kringsja9913 gotta keep bugging him lol
Ps the masks were from the beginning of the band. In the beginning no one knew their names or what they looked like. They literally went by numbers only. It wasn't until after their 3rd album that they took off their masks. So from '99 to '04 it was all about the music not them. So they just continue with the masks and come up with new masks now and again.
Not really, fans know at least Corey from Stone sour was the singer
Funny story, a guy used the fact they use masks to get random 18yo kids I nto an exclusive club in Australia by saying they were coming straight from a gig, so they just showed up as slipknot. Was back in the early days , like late 90s
@@dedespedida4515 most slipknot fans did not know about Stone Sour until the band was revived, which happened after Slipknot's first two albums went platinum.
When they very first started they didn't have masks
My brother, you nailed it!! 🤘😁🤘
This song was if memory serves written to deal with the feelings they had after Paul Grey passed away. Every death in the video is tied to a fear each member has and this video also Segway's into their new masks. The masks also allow the band members to give themselves to their music.
its both paul dying and joey leaving. (at the time) the 2 red "specters" are paul and joey and the video serves as a metaphor of alessandro and jay taking their lumps and their initiation into the band so they can earn the right to wear those masks for slipknot
Yeah Chris Fehn has a fear of crows
I think you mean: segue* it's pronounced the same but they mean different things.
@@IvyDoomsday the number 2 pops up frequently on TGC if you pay close attention. It was more due to Paul being #2 than loosing Joey. Joey didn't pass away until 2021 while there was constant friction after Paul died where Joey wanted to go straight to the studio but Corey wanted/needed time to decompress.
Frankly Jay is one of the best things to happen to Slipknot in the past few years. As his positive vibes are simply infectios
@@maggot216 its both. Joey had left the band long before this came out hence why i said its Paul dying and joey leaving (at the time). He left due to his health issues and that basically prevented him from ever coming back so to the band, he was basically gone.
This song was made about the emotions felt from the passing of bassist and founding member Paul Grey and trying to move on without him. Also the deaths of the member are all symbolic to the members. Can't remember them all, but what I do remember. Sid eating his own fingers, he's a DJ, without them he's worthless, Chris Fehn has an intense fear of birds, Corey as has many front men had been known for having an ego. So he was blowing his old self away. The two people being stabbed were their new drummer and bassist Jey and V-man. That was their introduction into the band.
From what I read: the one being attacked by the dog, was about your loved ones turning on you, and the dog in the video was actually his dog...
Thought that Corey was his trauma of being sa when he was a child
You're not done with metal untill we say you're done with metal. Metal Monday FOREVER! 🤣
Edit: Thanks for all the replies and likes. I didn't expect this when I wrote this comment 5 hours ago 🙂
Agreed
😂🤣😂
100% agreed, metal Monday's is awesome.
Its not request it's a requirement
Amen. Maggots for life!
Taylor explained the song's meaning to The Pulse of Radio: "'The Devil In I' is really about the war inside yourself," he said. "Trying not to give into defeatism, trying not to give into negativity, trying not to give up basically. It's a struggle. It's one of the hardest thing you can do, is to give in to that side of yourself."
I know what he said, but I always thought this song was a little bit about Paul’s wife. She really aimed her grief at the band and blamed them for his death publicly and it seemed unfair and hard to combat directly.
Im loving Metal Mondays. I love how knowledgeable you are about all music. The funny comments help too. Also from the begining each album has had different masks. So they keep evolving. Each person designs their own mask and basically it is how they feel inside.
I think you are pretty much there with the meaning. When they are "killing themselves" they have the old mask on. So they are basically killing that version of them and this is the new one. Also the 2 in the wheelchairs that they are stabbing are meant to be the Bass player who died and the drummer who left.
it is? i always thought the stabbing is meant to signify an initiation into the band since this was the first album they were on.
The drummer didn't leave...
He was kicked out after he got too sick to play then died without an apology for the betrayal.
Showbiz is a bitch.
@@stevenzwiesler8085 I thought so too
That does not represent Paul and Joey
Through the looking glass and snuff are two very good songs by this guy aswell, his vocal range is amazing
Through the glass is Corey's other band Stone Sour, but yes. Corey's vocal range is incredible.
It’s actually Stone Sour and the song is “Looking Glass”.

@@toreythefox1603 you are right. My bad
Slipknot combines all the aspects of Rap rock, incredible and real lyricism, unaddressed and often overlooked darkness.
This band is a wake up call with just about every song.
Damn good break down of the song brother. It was written after Paul passed. This was one of the last songs that they did before they changed into the masks that they are currently wearing. It was very symbolic of letting go and representing the band and each of the members moving on and leaving behind the past.
They change their masks almost every album. What are you talking about?
“This video is brought to you by cannibalism” bit actually made me laugh as both you and I had the same reaction to it. Matching facial expressions and all.
I HIGHLY recommend Vermillion Pt 2, it's so deep! Or Snuff. Trying to think of Slipknot tunes that have more lyrics 😅
I would love for him to do both Vermillion parts in one video. I also really love Killpop, and it’s always interesting to see how people figure out the meaning of the song (or don’t, it seems most reactors miss the point of it, but i feel like he would nail it instantly lol)
Fun fact: the reason why Corey (actually all of them) wear 2 different masks is because they change masks every album so they killed themselves in their old masks and they perform the song in the new ones which is symbolic for destroying their “devils” and past (as you said at the end)
Also the deaths themselves are very symbolic, Sid (the dj) eats is hands (what he needs for scratching), Corey blows his head off (what he needs for singing) and mick rips his face off (he’s most known for that look and has worn that mask since 2004 and still wears the same style to this day)
I do love that Mick and James have only tweaked the look of their masks instead of making new ones. I guess they found the look that embodies them best.

Knox Hill is the Harry Mack of break downs!! You have made me look at music in a different way. I don’t just hear it I listen to it… understand what a artist is doing. For me music is so much better because of you!! Appreciate everything you do.
Hell yes! I'm loving the metal Monday reactions!
No, you are not done with metal. You have a lot of Slipknot songs to analyse yet. Don't abandone us!
Love seeing these vids. Your breakdowns are awesome and I'm glad you sit down and take the time to analyze these songs.
Bro I found your channel because of Ren and I love your reactions the way you break songs down and try to get to the what they're really all about keep it up man we need. You!!!
I love the Metal Mondays posts. I love seeing the way you interpret the songs. I would love to see you react to Bad Omens. The stories that the songs portray are so good. Some songs I would recommend are “Like a Villain”, “Concrete Jungle”, and “Glass Houses”, but they really don’t have many “bad” songs. There is a little bit of swearing in the songs, but the songs are a good listen.
I second this!! Bad Omens is a fantastic band
Testament is a good band
There an older Metal Band but still good
Knowing it was written with Paul in mind after he passed, I always felt it was about turning and facing the demons EVERYBODY deals with after the death of a loved one. Whether it’s smoking, drinking, drugs etc. Or even repairing burned bridges between friends or family. That’s just how I feel. I’d love to hear any other interpretations others might have.
Corey has such an amazing vocal range. You should check out his other band Stone Sour. React to through the glass or bother next plz!!!!
ALOT of early Slipknot stuff was claimed as demonic because when they came out it was what late 90s so the growth with Slipknot is honestly insane ❤🎉 I love your breakdowns Knox
But their not demonic at all very nice people
What was ever demonic about Slipknot? 9 guys in red jumpsuits and silly masks jumping around. Great music though 😀
@@punkjay4681 I feel like everything back then was attributed to Satanism or being demonic with the Satanic Panic driving a lot of media coverage.
@@punkjay4681 Well there was Clown's Iowa mask. Personally one of my favorite Clown masks tho especially with how it evolved in Vol. 3.
I wish I could be in your shoes to experience slipknot for the first time, they’re a really great band
Dude, Knox your reaction videos are fantastic. Man it would be awesome to know or see Slipknot watch your video here and hear your interpretation. Keep doing you sir, lots of us out here in the vaporware of the Internet appreciate your take on music and your own art as well! 🤘
I just found your reviews and you are phenomenal man! Keep it up, I would be interested in a review of Mushroomhead.
Thanks for being so cool, making me smile/laugh when I need it, for having such a beautiful soul & your amazing talent as an artist💯🙏🤘🤙🔥🔥💕
We need a Metal Monday with Mudvayne! So many good choices for lyrics
When I’m a about to shout lyrics then he pauses it so I quietly finish the sentence awkwardly 😂
Yesssssssssssss! Yeah, you have to read the meaning behind each 'death' in the video. It's actually super deep. For instance, dude eating his arms and hands, his greatest fear is losing his hands (he's a DJ)...or the guy with the birds, his biggest fear is birds...it's very interesting.
Smart dude. Love your commentary, charismatic, entertaining. Great work, man 💯
Shawn Crahan (the one in the clown mask) said the reason for the masks was to be uncomfortable when preforming, bc they are made to be really tight and uncomfortable. His idea is that they can be much more intense and raw if they are really uncomfortable. Love the reaction brother 🤘
It also started as a way to get feedback when they were playing small "venues". Perform in Masks/jumpsuits change into street clothes afterwards and go sit at the bar and listen to what people thought without knowing they were in the band.
@@Skaterat_day15 It's funny people keep repeating that. It's not true at all. According to Corey, Clown started wearing masks to band practice before Corey even joined the band. The rest of the members then started to wear masks to practices and it just kinda went from there. It wasn't planned, and never had anything to do with anonymity. Most of the members were already in other bands before Slipknot, and Sid already had a pretty successful career as a DJ. Tons of people already knew who they were before they blew up and got big.
I love your lyrical analysis, I don't often pay such close attention to the meaning behind the lyrics but you really make me appreciate songs I already love all over again
Great reaction, knox! Keep it up😊
Awesome breakdown as always. Your insight is really interesting and you’re kinda perfect at breaking down these metal tracks from a more objective perspective. It’s rad.
I’d love to see your take on any of these tracks:
Silent Planet-Panic Room
Fit for an Autopsy-Far From Heaven
Thy Art is Murder-Holy War
All are lyrically dense with a lot of symbolism in the music videos as well as the music itself.
Keep ‘em comin!!!
Cheers
Silent Planet, yes please!
You should check out the behind the scenes/making of for this video to understand the full references for all of the violence. They were killing off their former selves in terms of their previous masks and the two that were rolling around in the chairs and ultimately virulently stabbed were the new drummer and bassist to the band. This was essentially and initiation and introduction to the band/fans. Their identities were still a mystery when the video dropped.
the masks started off as a gimmick, but they eventually ended up being an 'anti-image' statement, going against the grain of standard metal trends. They didn't fit into the norm, and they ran with it. Corey also said that the mask put a face to the person inside him that never had a voice.
Please please please do either thoughts and prayers by motionless in white, or it is the end by ice nine kills. Both ABSOLUTE BANGERS!
I would advise against watching Slipknot music videos 😂
With the exception of Solway Firth of course 💀
Its so awesome to watch you break these songs down bit by bit and take the effort to truly understand it. Love the way you look at this song and the symbolism that they have built into it. Well done once again.
I'm still amazed on how fast you get the essence Knox. Keep rocking on metal mondays !
The song is about their greatest fears; fear of dogs, fear of birds, fear of losing face, and fear of losing finger.
Always love your Metal Mondays. :)
Ex mormon here… Really enjoyed that bit around 3-4min where you broke down the need to break off the shackles of religion. I dont align or associate w/ any religion now and consider myself agnostic at this point because of the trauma ive needed to heal/ get over from relgious organizations and institutions.

Great work Knox. Would love your reaction to NEW METALLICA song Inamorata. Love your work!!
Metal Mondays, as always.....awesome. I would love to see your lyrical analysis of Teacher,Teacher by Jinjer on an upcoming Metal Monday.
I’m 65… an artist & was a touring musician for 6 years late 30s through mid 40s… not a “Metal” guy, but went with the husband of my Best friend to KnotFest in 2021… Slipknot’s show, was the best stage performance I have ever seen… We had VIP & were right up to the stage… I was blown away… Amazing band Live…!❤️
I've always enjoyed that this relatively tame song got a gruesome music video. Just amplifies the song even more
You are good at this bro. Corey would love to see you react to this.
Great reaction Knox! Would be great to hear you react to Bloodywood "Jee Veerey" great independent Indian metal band who use a mix of metal, rap and Indian folk instruments. Jee Veerey is all about mental health...really positive message
I love these insights into the lyrics!
Also, I love the imagery in this video... They were killing their old personas (the All Hope is Gone era of the band) to move on to something new... This was the first single from the next album!
Finally someone says it, they all picked how they wanted to kill their old selves
Hi Knox, love your videos. I've been a fan since early this year. Great work mate.
Why try out some Metal Bands that are not born in the U.S. Finland and Germany have a big Metal culture. There are some Metal Bands you could break down that don't go heavy on the growling.
Here are just some Dark Moor (Spain), Within Temptation (Denmark), Fairyland (France), Epica (Denmark) they have a growler too, Nightwish (Finland), Beast In Black (Finland), Lacuna Coil (Italy), Sabaton (Sweden), Powerwolf (Germany), Myrath (Tunisia)
This video has SO MUCH symbolism about about the death of Paul and then also about them replacing not only Paul but their old drummer too.
loved your take on that! very professional.
You are doing a great job of translating thier lyrics even though you dont know the band. Def got my sub and like!!
I absolutely love metal mondays, especially your analysis of Slipknot’s songs. I’d love to see you do more!!
Slaughter to Prevail-Demolisher is an amazing super heavy song. Kinda in the way of Lorna Shore with the insane screaming. The end is just amazing. Would recommend to anyone who is getting into metal.
Personal opinion, and it’s only an opinion. I can’t get into Lorna at all. Slaughter however👀👀
How? Lorna is heavier and will had the best vocals
@@CrazeReactsOfficial it’s not always about who is the heaviest.
And Bone Breaker is dope too
Edited to correct song title
@@ErikBeckner93 you should check out “souless existence “ by Lorna shore…such a stunning track. The guitar solos are both beautiful and haunting.
You're my favorite reactor, I like you lyrical analysis you're not just reacting to the shock factor or cool instruments like others do, you're showing you're really engaging with the songs
Cory said it was about the war inside yourself.
The music video was directed by drummer Shawn Crahan and features the destruction of band members in various ways. Chris Fehn, for instance, is pecked to death by ravens, a fate he requested for himself as the percussionist suffers from a fear of birds. Sid Wilson, meanwhile, eats his arm and fingers in the clip, destroying the things most important for the DJ's role in the band.
May I recommend The Nameless by Slipknot underrated song and it just shows how Corey can switch from heavy to just calming then back to metal
Nice to see you reacting to slipknot again! Your breakdowns of metal and slipknot are from a rappers point of view are refreshing. You should react to some of Slipknot's early stuff, that was pure raw aggression.
Will never get tired of Metal Mondays 🤟🤟🤟 another awesome reaction/breakdown

It does my heart good to know that people like you exist whether you're being sincere with your analysis of the lyrics and the music of the performers that you are reacting to. In my 33 years of touring with so many different entertainers. I couldn't begin to count them all the decades phone by I've met so many different wonderful people in the entertainment industry especially in the music industry. I enjoyed your reaction to one of the bands that I toured with over the decades TOOL. All the members of the band are absolutely wonderful the band itself is underrated as far as I'm concerned but so is CLUTCH. To put the song to the Fibonacci sequence that was amazing clutch made a song about how they like to make Krabby Patties only in rock and roll would you hear somebody simply use the ingredients to how they like to make their crab powders into a rock and roll song. Who knows maybe one day you'll stumble across this group and get the giggle of a lifetime. Good luck to your young man keep up the good work
Just starting the video. I sure hope you're not ACTUALLY "done with metal" lol. Looking forward to this, man. G'day. :-)
I usually dislike it when things are paused a lot cos half the time people don't dive into the lyrics or visuals it just kills the tempo of the video but you my friend. You HAVE this nailed. The way you describe and take in the information. Love it!
Haha! I laughed so hard when I saw the title of this video. Don't worry, it will grow on you. 🤘
Gonna see them live this week. :)
Nice reaction bro. May I recommend that you react to Killpop by Slipknot as well.
I always hated people who talk too much during reactions of music. But your analyzing the songs lyrics actually helped me understand a lot of songs a lot better and in a lot deeper way. So all I wanna say is thank you and keep up the good work. 😀
fun fact: at 2:35 Chris Fehn there actually has a massive phobia of birds, that’s why he was pecked apart.
Hey Knox, been loving Metal Mondays! I was wondering if you'd take a look at Wither by Tech 9 featuring Corey Taylor? It's an (imo) very impressive mix of their 2 styles
I love when people see Joey’s rotating drum kit for the first time. Everyone has the same reaction. “What?!” RIP Joey.
I love this song dude, the guitar riff is so fire🔥🔥
Theres a Robert McCammon short story titled "Pin" in his book "Blue World", it about a man slowly sticking a needle into his pupil.

I still wish you would react to panic room by silent planet. Favorite lyricist.
For the next metal monday i think you should listen to On broken glass by malevolence. i think you will like it
Don't think this would qualify for Metal Mondays, as it's like alternative/punk rock, but you need to do My Chemical Romance. Unless they've been removed, done on patreon, or something you've never reacted to them, which surprised me a little. MCR are amazing and have many influences that I think might peak your interest. Queen, Iron Maiden, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, and many others. Welcome To The Black Parade is their most popular, but they have a ton of good songs, like I'm Not Okay, Teenagers, Mama, Cancer, I Don't Love You, etc etc. Btw I love your content man, I've been a fan for years.
You consider MCR metal, but not slipknot? Weird. Quit gatekeeping.
@@jessicafrazon7393 I was talking about MCR not Slipknot. Learn to read.
Edit: That was a bit hostile on my part, but you're accusing me of gatekeeping when I'm not. I'll explain what I meant in my comment, cause I see where it could confuse you. I was saying that MCR is alternative/punk rock, which makes me unsure if it qualifies for Metal Mondays or if it should be just a random reaction. Slipknot is metal and I'd never say otherwise.
Thank you for reacting to my favorite band since it first came out. You did very well describing it. Much respect.
YEEEEEESSSSS I WAITED FOR THIS, do custer by slipknot next
Thanks for all these insightful reviews/reaction. However there's on band that is really missing here. We NEED more In Flames, honestly any song wold do, but i'd recommend something older from Clayman (Only for the weak, Clayman) or Come Clarity (Crawling Trough Knives, Leeches). IMO on of the first Melodic death metal bands also called Swedish death metal.
Very poetic deep/dark themed songs just ripe for interpretations.
all out life. one helluva message. love their shit. love even more that you catch what they mean more often than not.

5 hours in and it still popped up in my recommended
With each album they have a new mask. This was the first single from the Grey Chapter and the video was symbolic their old masks or old selves were being killed and replaced with the new.
I had to pause it. You said little red riding hood? And I thought to myself yeah and here comes the big bad Wolf and then that fucking rift kicked in lol and the look on your face confirmed everything I was thinking.🖤🤘🏻
I found metal before I found hip-hop, but I get your feelings bro. There’s definitely a lot of metal artist that I fell out with when I found out about hip-hop, and coming back to them feels like a punch in the face!
