- A major problem with the Electoral College system became apparent within the first few presidential elections. This video describes the problem and how the 12th Amendment has solved it to this day.
This is is a great presentation. Really very helpful for explaining some complicated civics history to my teens. I like that you explain and have the great visuals together. Thank you so much!
This literally saved my life on a school project! Thank you so much!

Given that electors virtually always vote for the vice presidential candidate from the same party as the presidential candidate, if there were to be a tie, or a situation where no one got a majority, today, we could actually end up with a president from one party and a vp from another. This would, of course, be contingent upon the makeup of the House and Senate but if they were controlled by different parties, this could definitely happen.
You really are a genius. I had to write a paper, but didn't know where to start. Thanks for the background history
Great job, Citizen G! Really helpful in explaining the topic. I'd like to see you add another series to explain a related topic, so called winner-take-all, like you did in this one, please brief us the idea, history and criticisms, etc. Thanks
but why can't pres and vice pres be from the same state?
Tldr. Because due to the 12th Amendment the POTUSbcandidate would forfeit the electoral votes of the state in which he and the VP are both residents of.
So if Trump picks Rubio as his VP he will forfeit Florida's electoral votes and if Biden boots Harris off the ballot and pick someone from Delaware as his VP then Biden forfeits Delaware's electoral votes.
Thanks
TY for explaining that.WOW put new insensitive on the 2020 Election

There is an error, the 12th amendment also gives a title to the current VP... I won't say it though, you will have to research it for yourself.
Pretty sure it's in the last sentence of the 12th amendment...
We vote for electors? I've never knowingly voted for an electoral college elector in my life and I vote every time since I was 18.

Well, now you know what you actually voted for were electors.

Except the public vote is NOT part of the constitution. Huge deal as the people were not supposed to elect the President except to vote for the best people for their STATE legislatures.
Did the video present something inaccurately? Based on your comment, I'm having trouble pinpointing exactly where I need to look to correct something. Thanks.
It’s what was left out of the explanation that matters. The people were never supposed to vote on the Electors. That duty belonged to the state legislatures. The vote of the people evolved over time, state by state. Only the House was supposed to be popularly elected by the people, for extremely good reasons. Since the people began voting for Senators and Electors, the warning of tyranny by democracy has come to pass in violation of the promises in Federalist 45.
