- In this video I take you through the makeover of this De Rosa Giro d’Italia in Columbus EL tubing. The owner never liked the Batik/Del Monde colour scheme and requested my help in making the bike look more like a classic De Rosa from the 80’s.

My absolutely favourite road bike brand. Sooooooo beautiful!
Beautiful! It is time for shiny silver to make a comeback!
the GOLD STANDARD u r rocking it
Just cannot stop watching your videos. Much appreciated once again
😁 glad to hear, thank you for the support 🙏🏼🙌🏼
A thing of beauty
Debris’s makes a beautiful bike you did a wonderful rebuild on it !
thank you 👍🏼
What a beauty.
That is simply beautiful
Outstanding!!! Thanks for showing it
Thank you 🙏🏼
Absolute stunner....!! Well done 👏
jaw dropping gorgeous
Simply gorgeous. They don't make bikes like this anymore -- well, Colnago still makes the Master and the Arabesque, and there's Officina Battaglin's line of steel bikes. Certainly there are other "boutique" makers. But they've all got "modern" parts and just don't have the same level of class.
Thank you and you’re absolutely right of course, these bikes were built with a touch of passion and elegance. Only those that take the time and effort to take them out for a quality ride will truly understand 👌🏼👍🏼
Amazing results well done
Thank you 🙏🏼
Congrats on the 3k and bit of sponsorship...cream always rises ,have a good Christmas 🍀
Thanks for the kind words and support 🙌🏼
Wonderful!!! Excellent work. I think you´re the best I ever saw!!!!
Thank you, I’m not sure I deserve such a high accolade but I appreciate the kind words and glad you enjoyed the video 🙏🏼👍🏼
Amazing, what a gem🤩 and I love your passion and attention to detail. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the build 👍🏼
What a beautiful bike. Remember when I started to ride bikes. From Costa Rica, thank you very much and happy holidays!!!
Thank you 🙏🏼👍🏼
Beautiful. I had a Pearl White 1992 Primato with Campy 8 speed (downtube shifters) and a 1997 Planet (AL) in the Batek colors with Campy 9 Ergo speed. Both great frames. But the way the Primato rode was sublime.
Thank you 👍🏼 That Primato is high up on the list of “Bikes I’d love to own” 🤩
@@BuffsVintageBikes You did not say, but was that DeRosa an aftermarket paint job?
If it was made for the Pro Team, I would have thought it would not be a painted over frame, as it appeared to be. Looked like it had 2 layer of differing paint schemes.
@@rayF4rio I don’t think it was a Pro bike but rather a tribute paint scheme they offered at the time to resemble the pro teams colours.
Beautiful job.
Thank you!
Blown away! Thanks for sharing. I've always loved De Rosa bikes and this one is restored to perfection. As a teen racing in the early 70's I always wanted an Italian race bike. My goal is to restore some of my old steel bikes that I've kept through the years Cheers!
It’s a pleasure, glad you enjoyed the video and all the best with your restoration projects 👍🏼
I reconstructed my grandfather’s DEROSA from the late 60’s. I needed the head badge and could find it. So I contacted Derosa in Italy and thanks Valentina at Derosa and my broken Italian I was able to get the badge bring the bike back life. I own 5 Derosa’s…❤🚴🏼♂️
It turned out great. Best wishes from the Netherlands.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼
Smove all the time
Another beauty. Fantastic work.
Beautiful bike !
Great job!!!!! Amazing craftsmanship sir.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼
You did this bike justice except for the 105 headset. Everything else is perfect.
Thanks. Agreed, the owner was going to change the headset for something more suitable as soon as he found one 👍🏼
Amazing work, you are absolutely awesome. And yes I agree bicycles are meant to be riding. If you want to hang it, buy a picture
Thanks Andre, jy weet mos 👊🏼👍🏼
Perfect!
Great job, gorgeous bike.
Thanks 🙏🏼👍🏼
What a transformation!!! You, sir, are the master of your craftsmanship! Best regards from Serbia!

Those front forks look amazing! 😍
Loving this channel, love your work!
Thanks Marc, I appreciate the feedback, glad to hear you’re enjoying it 👍🏼
I watched this video from start to finish, with my mouth wide open !
Wow, what a fantastic bicycle - a jewel ! Restored by a passionate
craftman. You Sir are indeed a craftman.
Greetings from Melbourne Australia.
If I owned a bicycle of that caliber, it could sleep in my bed, and I would sleep on the couch.
Thank you for the feedback and kind works Kevin, thrilled to hear you enjoyed the video 👍🏼
Saw this over the holidays with much appreciation. The level of attention to detail was inspiring. BTW, my local mechanic will not grip any portion of Reynold's tubing in the stand. By the seatpost only.
Thank you Peter. Indeed, one needs to be super careful with the thinner tubing 👍🏼
Wow amazing work subscribed to the channel will be watching more later today 😊😊😃🚴🏻🚴🏻
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the support 👍🏼
Every minute worth watching. I did some bike restorations/recreations myself but will never reach your level of detailing. Happy holidays and blessings from Paarl!
Thanks for the support Marcus and enjoy your Christmas in South Africa 👍🏼
Stumbled across your channel by chance! So glad to see there are channels like this in South Africa with this amount of detail and a passion for old bikes. Keep up the work!
Thanks for the kind words, glad to hear you’re enjoying the content 🙏🏼👍🏼
Just discovered the channel. Terrific work, I'll be watching, thanks.
Thanks you and welcome 🙏🏼 👍🏼
Bravo 🔥
Great video .
Beautiful work
Looking forward to your projects you have planned in the new year.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thanks Dino, appreciated 👍🏼 Have a blessed Christmas as well 🎅
Amazing work, love the transformation!!!
Glad you like it! 😊
Belíssima great work, have a wonderful Xmas... I can't wait for your next project for 2023...♥️♥️♥️
Thank you Michel, to you and your loved ones as well 🎅👍🏼
Apologies for the sound spikes. Seems like I’m doomed to struggle with that in iMovie until such a time I move to more advanced editing software.
Excellent work again, sir. And a damn good looking bike! Nice color too. Congrats with 3k subs. You deserve 30k IMO.
Thanks for the kind words, we’ll get there eventually I’m sure 😁👍🏼
From a bike to a work of art. well done mate. send me one of those if you're feeling generous ;-)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video 👍🏼
Very nice work and inspirational. I've got a Columbus MS frame, fully chromed and painted over chrome but still original paint. Been putting off restoring it for a while now as it has a couple of shallow dents that need to be sorted first, maybe after the festive period is over I shall make a start on it, it may even be ready for a L'Eroica ride in the summer, who knows.
Thank you 🙏🏼 Sounds like a great bike and one worth investing some time and effort into, good luck with the resto 👍🏼
Great video as always Buff. Merry Christmas!
Thanks Philip, Merry Christmas to you and your family as well 👍🏼
Well done, as always!!!
Thanks Wynand 👍🏼
Wow. I've just finished watching your video and I felt I had to drop a comment. Thank you for being human and humble in this crazy internet world we live in. 🙏 The sequence in the end almost made me cry. Excellent selection of background music and attention to detail. Going to watch the rest of you videos now 👌
Thank you for your kind words, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video 🙏🏼👍🏼
Beautiful! Awesome vid. Looking forward for more group rides videos, those were epic! :D Best regards, merry christmas!
Thanks so much and I’ll try put a few more group ride vids together in the new year 👍🏼
Well done on a fantastic paint resto. The final product is beautiful 😍
Thanks Anton, hopefully I can get that Benotto pursuit frame looking just as good 👍🏼
Stunning job 👍
Brilliant, as always! Love the diamond shaped chainstays!
Thanks mate, hopefully your Colnago looks as good once complete 👊🏼👍🏼
Absolute class a joy to watch you work, inspirational. Merry Christmas. Subscribed
Thanks Kevin, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼
Hi Buff I used to paint a long time ago isocyanate stopped that quickly as asthma is a problem, now can use modern paints ok but not often. Your work is really great...
People wonder why paintwork is expensive, such great work sir
Thanks Noel, I appreciate the kind words. I’m still very much new to the art of painting but learning with every frame I do. It’s a time intensive hobby and it certainly gave me a clearer understanding of why painters charge what they currently do.
Amazing work and attention to details. It just shows how proper preparation and invested time can do in saving such an icon as the DeRosa!
Thank you Igor, I appreciate the kind words 👍🏼
Fantastic job, it looks magnificent!
Thanks Patrick 👍🏼
Another superb build, thanks for sharing. I always learn something from each of your videos. This time it was tubing thickness. Have a great Christmas
Thanks Mark and I’m glad you’re getting something out of the videos 👍🏼 Have a blessed Christmas 🎅
been subbed from the start of your journey, and watched the quality and attention to detail develop to an incredible standard 🙂
merry Christmas to you and your family from here in Wales
Thanks for the kind words and the continued support of the channel, it’s very much appreciated. Have a blessed Christmas 🎅 👍🏼
Awesome Job! I just got my first DeRosa. Its a 92, not sure how I'm going to build it up!
Thanks John, I’m looking forward to see how you dress it up, you always have the most amazing components 👌🏼👍🏼
New subscriber from SoCal here. Thank you for taking the time to explain what you are doing as well as why. This is not often done by many YTers. Many Italian built framesets look nice. But few look like this without paint. Gourgous work. Also, I thought these had square shouldered crowns. Or am I mistaken?
Thank you, glad you’re enjoying the content 👍🏼 Many of the earlier De Rosa’s had square shouldered crowns but the Giro d’Italia in EL came with a unicorn fork, as did the Bianchi EL of the same era. I should add, much to the disgust of many purists who believe the standard forks to have a more classic look although possibly slightly heavier.
"Many Italian built framesets look nice. But few look like this without paint." Based on what? How many have you seen without paint?

Hi Buff, I find your videos are very great, thanks for the many details. For the De Rosa project, I also really liked your color choices. Would you tell me the color code of the blue please? thanks a lot. I am curious about your new projects in 2023
Thank you Martin, glad to hear you’re enjoying the videos 👍🏼 I chose the colour off a swatch at my local paint supplier, the code was BE6312 but I unfortunately can’t remember the manufacturers name.
Thanks a lot buff
This is the first video of yours I've seen; I'm hooked! Beautiful painstaking work! The love you have in what you do is obvious.
Thank you for the kind words and welcome to my channel 🙏🏼👍🏼
I'm loving your work, please keep it up. Could you recommend a type, or preferably make and model of gun best suited to this type of work. I don't think a general automotive one has the same characteristics.
Thank you 👍🏼 Spray guns are very much a personal thing and which is best really only comes from experience. I’m learning all the time. I’ve got 4 different guns which I often use for different stages. Best advice I can give is go for mini guns as they help get into tight places in the triangles. For primer and clear coat you want a needle nozzle combo of around 1.2mm as the paint is thicker. For base coat I use an Iwata LPH80 with a 0.8mm nozzle as the paint is often thinner. This is like using a large airbrush and allows you to use it for a range of applications, from full frame painting right down to airbrushing fine text details.
Another much enjoyed video thank you, can i ask what size nozzel you use on your spray gun?
Thanks 👍🏼 I use multiple spray guns depending on primer, base or clear but a 1.2 nozzle is normally fine for a bike frame.
Hi friend, I wish you all the best for the New Year. The coat is perfect, I'll want you to teach me. Beautiful bike. Isn't the axis long? For this Chorus is 102 and yours if I'm not mistaken 111mm?
Thank you, wishing you a wonderful and successful 2023 as well 👍🏼 No, the axle worked out perfectly but I did pick up a problem trying to run a 28 sprocket on the rear with Chorus. Even with an extended B screw I struggled to get clearance between the sprocket and the upper derailleur wheel. On Shimano this isn’t normally a problem.
Wow, incredible job!
Out of curiosity, where do you find these amazing bikes? Is it all locally in Cpt?
Thanks Thomas. We find them pretty much all over SA. There’s still plenty gems hidden away in garages gathering dust just waiting to be set free on the road again 😁
@@BuffsVintageBikes I guess you know where to look! Glad you've gotten your hands on some awesome bikes :)
Beautiful bike! Why the 105 head set?
To be replaced when a suitable replacement is found. Quality and affordable vintage parts are hard to come by in SA.
Ciao, veramente un ottimo lavoro, dove hai trovato gli adesivi originali?
Grazie 👍🏼 The owner of the bike ordered the stickers from Cyclomondo in Australia and had them shipped to me.
And the Ultegra seat post?
The top tube is round, no? If it is I wonder why (unlike other top tube dent repairs I've seen) you didn't roll-it back into shape rather than cover it up with body-filler? Nice paint work though. I love that thing used to paint-in the pantographing - much better than the tiny paint brush I use. Just for the record it's BEE-AHN-KEE (Bianchi) and it seems your handlebar's not quite centered in the stem - don't blame me for pointing it out - you did the close-up on it :-)
The dent wasn’t bad enough to have deformed the area around it so rolling it out wasn’t necessary
Why shimano 105 and ultegra parts are used?)
All that was available at that time, they have since been changed 👍🏼
@@BuffsVintageBikes cool!
Why a Shimano 105 headset?
Good question… that was the original headset that was on the bike. I planned to replace it with a better Stronglight or Campag headset but the stack hight was too high for the steerer length as it had been cut for the 105 so I was forced to reuse it until the owner can find a flatter Campag headset.
