Tested mizuno forged jpx 923 forged. Thought they were going in the bag this year. Went to pxg and wow! Gen 6 on order. Feel and dispersion won me over. Surprisingly I gained 10 to 15 yards which surprised me since the jpx forged and gen 6 7 iron were lofted exactly the same. The adjustable head weight truly is great. Went up 10 grams.

I just got my Gen6 P irons after being fitted by phone. I have played the first generation of PXG irons but there is no comparison. The Gen6 looks sleek, feel soft and are absolutely stunning. I played Ping i525 and Srixon ZX5 but my feeling with PXG is much better in terms of control, tighter dispersion and overall performance. The other irons were fitted too so it’s perhaps better fitter and better product which makes the difference. I guess I have found my holy grail and will stay with the brand for a long time.

Hi Andy. I tried the gen 6 p specifically for the head weight adjustability. I’m 6 foot 5 but at nearly 60 my swing speed is heading south. My 1 inch over mavrik pro irons swing weight at D9 and are directly contributing to a slower swing speed. The gen 6 at 38.25 inches (+1.25 inches) gave me an extra 10 yards on a cut and up to 20 yards if I hit a draw. Lovely club and very controllable.
The only issue I have is that you have to select the tungsten weight at the fit as it’s glued in place at build and cannot be removed for a heavier or lighter weight at a future date. I was very surprised by that.
I found it had to decide between the 8 gram weight which put the swing weight to d8 or the lighter 6 gram weight.
Fitter suggested the 8 gram but I’m not convinced, it might be this issue than stops me purchasing the clubs.

That is true, PxG is the only company with adjustable weights in irons. Even in some of their wedges. Any Player that uses longer shafts, even if its just 0,25 inch, profits from a possible weight reduction of the head. Adding weight is easy with any iron, with lead tape. Taking weight off is not. Adding weight to the butt end of the shaft to get the swingweight down does not suit every player. From a business perspective it’s stunning to see the big firms like Titleist and Callaway, letting Pxg chomp away on their market share like that.
Since Pxg brought their prices significantly, they become bigger every year

These look beautiful, however I'm not convinced that swing weight might be adjusted much during a custom fit - perhaps with the one large weight in the Gen6 they will do it. I went for a custom fit of Gen4 XP irons when Gen5 were first introduced in order to receive the best deal possible. While the Gen4 can be adjusted with the smaller screws, when I was at the Philly store they told me they don't even stock the weighting H/W and all of that has to be done at assembly in AZ. My order was put in at D0 across the 7 clubs and when I received them and had them checked, they were all over the map from C8 to D1. I raised this issue after fact with the fitter and he said they can check them but then have to ship them to AZ for adjustment. I love them but just gave up on the re-weighting since I didn't want to take all that time.

That said, as much as I would love a full set of PXG Gen 6 and think they are some of the best stuff out there, I am still playing 15 year old irons and nearly that in a driver. .370 hosels allow for more options in shaft selection. If you go .355 you immediately eliminate all .370 shaft options barring someone reams out the hosel to accept a larger diameter. If you start at .370 you can always add a shaft tip shim and still use other sizes. It's smart considering their focus on custom fit

I have to laugh. The pxg heads are built in Asia, the shafts are built in asia. pxg glues the shaft to the head and puts on a grip that is also built in asia , if you call that a club built in USA you are a fool
