    Hi...Found your video as I'm getting an 'insert drip tray' fault on mine. When you turn it on, it comes up with that straight away, even though it's in. Repeatedly pulling it out and putting back does nothing either. I found another video where they replaced some resistors on the main circuit board to fix it, which seems a bit extreme to me. I don't suppose you'd know if it would more likely just be a faulty drip tray sensor do you?

    My machine has an unusual fault where it grinds, starts to extract, pouring out and then there is a sound like a puff or air escaping and then nothing much comes out. It also does the same thing when rinsing. Frothing milk and plain hot water works fine. Have you seen this before? I’d really like to fix it as I love my Melitta Barista TS…😢

    • @JimTheCoffeeGuy
      @JimTheCoffeeGuy  Před rokem

      Hi Robin, this sounds a lot like the overpressure valve activating due to a restriction in the coffee system. One of several potential issues. 1) your coffee grind is too fine 2) overpressure valve is worn out and requires replacement 3) you have a coffee blockage in your system.
      As a first step, I would suggest removing and manually rinsing/cleaning of the brewer if this has not been performed in a while. Then reinstall brewer and run several coffee system cleans back to back. First time using no tablet, second time with tablet. Alternate tablet/no tablet for 6 cleans total.
      If your issue continues after this the blockage/restriction may be too severe to clear without manual disassembly and cleaning.
      Try this and let me know how you go

    Hi Jim, water has stopped flowing through my Barista TS Smart. I turn the machine on, the tank is full of water, but the water level doesn't go down, and ultimately it ends up with saying fill tank. I think water flow was slowly getting worse, and ultimately has got to the state it is now, with no water flowing at all. It's now stuck on a descaling cycle, as it can't get past the 'fill system' stage. Do you have any suggestions? I've had a look at the drainage valve by unscrewing the panel behind the brew unit, and removed any coffee stuck around the springs, but that is it so far. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

    • @JimTheCoffeeGuy
      @JimTheCoffeeGuy  Před 2 lety

      There are many possible failure points. This would require manually following the water flow path and possibly live testing.
      It could be the vibration pump, scale in thermoblock, blockage in brew system.
      I would recommend taking it to an authorized repair agent for assessment. Especially if it is under 2 years old (warranty)

      Hi Jim,
      I have a similar problem, with a machine I can’t return. On switch on I had the problem of it not recognising that it had water. I’ve replaced the outlet Y shape valve which seem to work for a short time. I cleaned and descaled the machine and then made a cup of coffee. I then fitted the water filter. This resulted in that no coffee or water being dispensed. I immediately stripped it apart again to find the pump was extremely hot. My problem now being do I replace the pump which in the UK is quite expensive only to find another problem. Do you any suggestions about why the pump overheated as I can’t find any blockages?

    • @JimTheCoffeeGuy
      @JimTheCoffeeGuy  Před 2 lety

      @@pf7737 it sounds as if you have a restriction somewhere still.
      When you added the filter did you run the filter change program?
      Once the machine is coed down again and you try to run the machine can you hear the vibration pump buzzing away? If you can't the pump may be faulty, or there is a blockage somewhere on the other side of the pump and the high pressure is causing the pp to stall.
      This one is a trace it forward component by component problem so can be a bit tricky...

    • @pf7737

      At the moment it will give hot water and steam but not coffee. There is a coffee block in the coffee grounds container.

    • @JimTheCoffeeGuy
      @JimTheCoffeeGuy  Před 2 lety

      @@pf7737 ah. Ok! So your pump is fine then. You definately have an issue in the coffee system by sounds of things. If it can pump and heat water correctly, then your system is ok up until at least the ceramic valve (the problem in my videos) this valve directs steam/water from the thermoblock to the milk system, hot water outlet or coffee brewing system. So I would suggest you have a blockage somewhere. Most likely in your brewing unit or just after it.

    Jim, I am having an issue with my Melitta milk system. It’s doing the spitting and sputtering every time the milk frothier is used. I have seen you talk about milk flakes in the milk container connectors and have added thoroughly cleaning them with a “straw cleaning brush” to me weekly cleaning routine. I also started leaving the milk tube attached when running the easy clean after each latte. I run both the coffee and milk cleaning system weekly and the descaling process every three months, sooner if the system tells me to. Any ideas on what could be causing my issue?

    • @JimTheCoffeeGuy
      @JimTheCoffeeGuy  Před 2 lety +1

      Hmmmm, interesting. It sounds like a restriction somewhere, or alternatively you aren't getting enough steam. Spluttering would indicate milk bring the likely issue.
      You can test by putting some milk into a cup/glass and putting the milk line directly into it. Then when making hot milk, moving the height of the glass from bench height to level with the outlet. If spluttering is only present when the original container is connected, or when the milk is low to bench you have a restriction.
      Most likely in the milk frother attached to the machine.
      You can remove this rubber section from the dispenser outlet and clean it, the milk inlet hole is very small tho.
      Try this and see how you go?

      @@pixieboimagic2285 sure no worry's.
      One thing to note if using milks other than normal dairy types is the viscosity. If the coconut milk is a slightly thicker than normal milk, this may be causing some or all of your problem too. You can verify by running a little bit of normal milk through to test if the problem remains. If you think it is the coconut milk causing issues try a few different brands or types ad the viscositys will vary greatly between each version.

    Hi Jim, fresh (relatively!) from my triumph last time using your instructions, my Melitta Caffeo's now started to make what I can only describe as a groaning and moaning when the brew unit is rotating - either compressing or expelling the puck. The brew unit's clean and lubed. Am I right to suspect the gears/box, do you think?

    • @JimTheCoffeeGuy
      @JimTheCoffeeGuy  Před 2 lety +1

      I wouldn't think so as the gearbox is seperate to the brewing unit.
      Check the coffee puck height, making sure it's not too big as this can cause what you are describing (make sure the coffee flow time is not too fast, and that the coffee grounds are not too coarse)
      If it is still making the noises after checking this, or if it is particularly noisy even during startup and shutdown when no coffee is inside the brewer, it may be time for a new brew unit. The noise will most probably be the upper piston sealing ring as it moves up and down the brewing chamber cylinder.
      Good luck on round two 🤞

      @@JimTheCoffeeGuy Thanks. I've just ordered up a new brew unit so will see how that goes - interestingly, the one fitted is a replacement one, judging by the date stamping on it. Worst case is I'll have a spare to swap out when I'm cleaning the machine.

    • @jedwards5860
      @jedwards5860 Před 2 lety

      @@JimTheCoffeeGuy Well, I ordered my new Brew Unit, rinsed, dried & fitted it and guess what - noise is still there, so it's definitely machine-side, not brew-side, iyswim, which was my original instinct. I think I'll run it 'til it expires and put up with the noise, which is really quite loud! It's a s/h machine in the first place, so it owes me nothing anyway, and when it finally dies I'll have two Brew Units and a bunch of other spares for my next machine!
      As an aside, the BU is often quite difficult to remove nowadays, sometimes meaning I have to take the drip tray out and push it from inside the machine. I've also found the machine to be rather messier than my previous one, with grounds and dampness finding their way to the drive spindle/axle (or whatever it's called - the big cog thing that drives the BU, anyways!) area in particular - I wonder if a less-than-perfect cleaning regime by the original owner has meant that contamination has got into the gear area, and is the source of my problems?
      Anyhow, the machine's soldiering on, and still making great coffee, so other than the need to wear industrial ear defenders, all's good 😂

    • @JimTheCoffeeGuy
      @JimTheCoffeeGuy  Před 2 lety

      @@jedwards5860 oh dead, that's not good :-( yeah I'd continue to run it as is.
      The other thing to check is the quantity of coffee being ground (eg puck height and coarseness of ground coffee) It should already be obvious if it's out as the coffee would be weaker than normal and have a faster flow time.
      If you find this to be the problem a slight grinder adjustment may be needed, or the blades/grinder may be the culprit. And yes too much coffee being compressed can cause the noises you were describing earlier also.
      How many cups has yours made? Should be in statistics

    • @jedwards5860
      @jedwards5860 Před 2 lety

      @@JimTheCoffeeGuy I think the settings are all good - I run it about 1/4 away from max fine grind, which is where it was recommended as it seems it can't cope with the max fineness setting. Coffee's fine to my taste, and certainly not lacking flavour.
      It's relatively youthful in coffees made terms - when we got it, it had just over 3000 'on the clock', and it's now 4250 a year later, so way too early for things to be wearing out, I'd have thought.
