Profile
Ian David Loveday
Ian was one of the first producers to gain popularity amongst the late-80s/early-90s rave scene with hits like “Spice” and “Fear the Mind Killer”,
the sound being a link between early techno and modern breakbeat.
As Eon, his tracks made their way to early 90s pirate radio stations in London,
and then out on vinyl through small labels like BAAD and Vinyl Solution. He would release his most well-known tracks on the seminal album,
‘Void Dweller’ in 1992 at the height of the spread of modern dance music in the US.
‘Void Dweller’, with the hit ‘Spice’ owing its recognizable hook to a sample from David Lynch’s movie “Dune”,
was one of the first major label releases, on Columbia, for producers in the burgeoning rave scene.
His work saw release on numerous labels over the years, including Hooj Choons and XL Recordings.
In ‘93 he teamed up with fellow British acid pioneer Peter ‘Baby’ Ford, producing many classic tracks including ‘Dead Eye’
which would eventually be released as a single on Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8 label.
Loveday would go on to release under his Minimal Man moniker up until just before his death.
Eon performed live at Fabric and on Radio One over the years, and worked with producers like Mark Moore (S’Express)
and Marcus J Knight. Most recently, he had been busy in the studio with long time collaborator Baby Ford on some new projects.

Ian was my best friend in the early to mid 1960s, when I lived in Paddington. He was highly intelligent and had put together a desk full of electronics (at the age of about 8) which could detect when someone was on the stairs ! We used to go boating with his dad, Alan, on the Grand Union canal, which I really loved. I lost touch with Ian after I moved to South London, and regret not keeping up with him over the years. Rest In Peace, your friend Ivor.
he's dead? Damn I didn't even know he was sick 🤕
Thank you for leaving this memory. It's nice to hear about these producers we know nothing about. I hope he's in rave heaven
🪦🚨 Rave In Peace 🚨
I used to play songs from this album in my college radio show - this was 'new' at the time and to this day it's an album my friends reference for 'here's the RIGHT way to use samples' - was just this morning singing 'Spice' as driving to work
When I was 16 my friend rich came over to my house and he was drunk and high and handed me a cassette tape with this album recorded on it and said here's some ear candy then drove away. I immediately put it in my walkman without even knowing the name and was blown away!!!
One of my favorite albums of the 90's. I can't believe it's not avaliable on any streaming services (with the exception of here).
RIP Ian Loveday.
Hard to search. Final found album on Apple Music. God bless.
So I have the cd now . I bought it last week. Can’t wait to play in the car
Yep,should be best of
Somehow ended up with a copy of this CD back in 1992-1993. Ian Loveday was WAY ahead of his time. What in the basket???..... ❤
Lotion 🤷🏻♂️ Else it gets the hose again!
My brother! I used this album (and still do sometimes) to teach students about cool ways to use sampling - also used to play this in my indie college dance/techno radio show in the early 90s
A girl named Tonya lent me the tape of this album, Grade 12, 1993. Promptly purchased my own copy at the local HMV. Listening to this album for the first time in almost 20 years. Thanks for the upload!
Same.....jus got back into edm...hard dub....I remember this from early 90s....epic....born classic
Amazing album, Now always forever
🙀🤘
This album fits in the category of life altering albums. You can't unhear it and you will always love it. If anyone should ever ask "What's in the basket?" There is only one answer, ever.
My brother

Lots of good times associated with this album.
Love Eon they sound awesome and the Spice must Flow!
One of my favorite albums of all time. It's just got a timeless vibe I can't put my finger on but I love it. Ian Loveday was a pioneer.
Had to drive from Ks to Denver to get the album. First heard it in an underground alternative club. Spoke to my soul right then. I'm addicted to this album still 35 years later and will be till my end.
It never gets old!
An album we played at after hours parties in the 90's
Loved this tape when I was a teenager in the early 90's
This entire album is a Masterpiece! First heard Spice in 1992 at 'the Mirage' - 6th Street, Austin Texas. More fog, please, there could never be enough fog on the dancefloor. Maybe it really was 'spice gas'.......
Would dance to this a lot yes indeed sure would yes!!
The whole cd even!
Only for the headstrong!
I stole this album of my older sister and went on to become an awesome teenager 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much for posting this album. Had the cd, lost in the void. I love the classic "Dune" samples.
I sat in the back seat of a 1970 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman with my husky Achilles and I streamed this on my iPad we folded space it was a life changing experience
Should have used this for the soundtrack to the new Dune movie.
Don't sully Void Dweller with that modernist garbage.
@@judesheckelberg5135 LOLOL I love this comment so much!
Bought this CD when it was released in the U.S. Haunting and frightening stuff. It's beautiful and I love it!
I noticed it in Johnny Vegas show "Ideal". 🙂
Pretty sure I had this on tape. I could listen to this album from to back. You don’t get this stuff these days
