V7E14: There Is No More East

  • There is no more east... at least not by Jeep! After getting redemption on the Skerwink Trail, I set off toward St. John's, Newfoundland. On my way south, I explore some unmaintained roads that traverse a rugged landscape. Something I hold dear goes missing. I continue to the city, where I enjoy sustenance, make some repairs to the Jeep, and experience the easternmost extremity of North America.

Chris thank you for the videos of Newfoundland. I am from the Island and will retire back there in Jun 2024 after 31 years in the military. My plan is to purchase a Rubicon and explore every road/trail I can find on the island. I hope you felt welcomed in our beautiful province. I also did the TransLab highways in 2017 on an adventure motorcycle! Great content I will be sure to watch all your videos. THANK YOU!

Hi Chris. Just a note to say thanks and all that. I guess you have enough of all that stuff by now. The coffee cup drama was wonderful. How some guy driving around in his Jeep gets me concerned about a lost coffee cup is seriously mystical.
It's funny how the "orbits of things" can intersect lives at just the right time. By that I mean, here is your channel appearing on my radar just when you're traveling through Eastern Canada at the same time we are looking at retiring in Cape Breton Nova Scotia and researching all the details of doing so. A welcome break from the big questions is you and your travels reminding us of how lovely the scenery is and how much adventure awaits us.
When I say retire I don't mean stop working. Just stop working for money to do all the things that go into a life. We have enough to be comfortable now, and want to take care of our own food, learn to live with a forest to make the things we need and give the forest the things it needs to be a good healthy forest.
I like the way you travel through my country Canada and you show me parts of it I've not yet seen, inspire an adventurous spirit and maintain a wonderful sense of humor in putting it all together for us each week.
We have narrowed it down to four potential farms with woodlots that we will buy to make our homestead in Cape Breton. Once established, I'll drop you a line here to let you know the area and you are always welcome to stop for the night to camp or share the spot with any like-minded travelers on journeys of their own. Only 100 acres, so should you want some organic pasture-raised chicken, eggs or clean freshwater, it's nothing more than a hike and a hello.
My thanks to you for all the great info and adventure you've given us with your channel and good spirits.
With that, carry on and we're looking forward to the northern Labrador hopefully Torngate mountains update.
Stay safe, have fun and keep the shiny side up mate!

My Demetic fridge uses 35Ah’s in a 24 hour period so if you don’t drive you car for a 24 hour period you battery will be drained. Doing this over and over agin kills deep cycle batteries

The only thing that should be direct connected is the winch. You should look at a POD or Switch Pro, etc... One set of wires to the battery and everything plugs into it. Super handy. Love mine on my Jeep. Each connection is fused and relayed individually. Makes connecting, troubleshooting, or even repairs very simple.

They’re pretty much the best underwear on the market. Those boxers are the Land Cruiser of underwear, pricey up front but quality that will last forever!

I washed the one I wore that day in the shower (if I could shower) and let it hang dry while I slept. They are quick drying and for those days you have to wear them more than once they don't stink. Sept 1... Happy Birthday Me! ... 66 today! I've seen a lot of the areas these guys travel... I want to see them, again... just imagine how much they have changed... When I was a kid in the '50s there was no I10, I 40, I 15, My mother came out to New Mexico with her brothers in the '20s and route 66 was a dirt road... now look at it! Sorry I was having a moment! Ok, let's get back to the video! Oh, and that kind of volcanic Flow is referred to Pahoehoe after the pillow-like lava flows! On second look that lava was scored by glaciers to make those undulations with the scoring and scraping. Oh, Chris... one more thing! I suggest you get one of those pocket drones, with 4G video; you could run the drone up ahead of you and return from behind you to get those coming and going shots without having to go back to get it,,, also you can have them automatically follow you or parallel you if you get one with that capability! And another thing... that's a mark against you in the books of the DCDONA logbooks... you only get three and you could get kicked out... THAT'S ONE! ... finding it gets you 1/4 point back since it's drinkable (Dedicated Coffee Drinkers Of North America!)

The 2 older batteries would be mounted independently to provide power to run other accessories. If they still held a charge and had a decent output? I'd have them run a 12v system for heat, lights, fridge backup etc. Also. For mobile connection, internet, wifi I'd run the Iridium Go. A Satellite system the gives you an off grid connection for internet and communications services on any device. Its pricey but worth it.

His light burned out, 5 or more, episodes back didn't it?
I sort-of remember that light getting replace, when he hit the very first town. He pulled the grill and wench to do it.
Unless I have a screwed up memory.
I'll try watching sober for awhile.

Been hoping Dorian would stay away from you since I saw it's northward turn. I guess they didn't find that suspension squeak that's been bothering my OCD? Lol If you come through OKC area I'll find it and fix it free!!! Haha

I thought water leaks were a Jeep feature. Doesn't it list them as a standard item in the owner's manual?
