The goal by arsenals Radford against Liverpool at Anfield was one of the smoothest pieces of skill you will ever see, and to accomplish it on a bog of a pitch is even more noteworthy. Imagine some of today's players being asked to play in those conditions? Don't think so

7:19 - absolutely classic David Coleman. Belting goal, but all he needs to say is "One-nil!" Understated but emphatic.

It didn't matter as it was just part of the mix that made British football great. Look at it now, you could play snooker on them they are so perfectly perfect. I presume they don't wash their strips as mud is banned. Boring.

Allan Clarke had to be one of the smoothest, silkiest players and finishers that ever graced the game. Pity he never won more caps for England!

  • @PatchedThePipe

The pitches are a like a junkies garden, the pace of the game aswell, kinda to be expected in an era where players would regularly sink 8 pints after a win, and smoke. The balls seem heavier too (quite possibly were!) A golden age but the modern games far more exciting and pacey. Only VAR breaks are killing the momentum..The "shoudla have been a penalty" and "he was offside" pub talking points are somewhat gone, with VAR not being 100% perfect, but I guess the game is being played as close to the rules as possible.

I know Man United fans are hypocrites saying 13 Premier League's blah blah blah and discounting their 7 first divisions as inferior to the above. However it is the other way around. Football was tougher particularly in the 1970s. Just because they didn't win it in the 1970s doesn't make it inferior they were shit and that is why they didn't win it.
