I feel like this game was styled and aimed for a younger audience compared to other Sonic games, Yet they stick a ridiculous insta-kill boss at the end

@@thomaslee2558it’s not that it’s difficult. The second part is a bit and if you mess around and fall off the map (which is how you’re going to die there) you have to reset and do the entire battle again. The beginning battle is a slog to get through. They needed to make the second part a respawn area. It’s not fun for me anymore and I just want to get it over with.

@@TheBESTRamenOfAllTimeI wish I could say the same. For me the boss fights and lacking multiplayer integration really ruined this game for me. I still think it's an okay game and most of the levels are well designed, but the boss fights make me not want to replay Superstars.
I stopped playing the game after 10 attempts on that boss. I want to do a play through as Trip, thus why I am studying this video. Never in my life have a played a boss so tedious.
Trip’s final battle is one of the hardest bosses I’ve faced in a video game, Mostly the instant kill attacks and the lack of checkpoints really makes fang a hard boss but good guide!
A single checkpoint for these bosses (including the true final one) would've saved them (maybe not completely but enough where they aren't a super painful slog)
If you aren't able to play without a checkpoint, maybe the problem is you.

The Egg Fortress boss broke me...
After *TEN* tries, I finally make it to the last hit... and I choked. All that hard work... squandered because I screwed up a button press.
For about a minute all I could feel was anguish.

i’m probably on my 50th try 🥲
Took me at least 90 minutes on stream to beat this boss. As I said to my cousin who tuned in at one point “I’ve had more fun stubbing my toe.” I never really rage at games, but this boss was testing my patience. Testing it now as well as I also have the game on PC.

I found the Eggman fight to be just fine, but after 6 hours, I gave up on the Fang fight, even though I was really close to beating. It just wasn’t fun at ALL. Especially without checkpoints.

Eggman fight wasn’t nearly as bad, yeah. Only issue I had was I didn’t know the countdown timer didn’t apply to the boss fight, so I rushed through it.
Fang, on the other hand… what were they thinking?
The Eggman fight is easy once you learn his weakness and good timing helps with his 2nd Phase.
Fang’s 1st Phase was pain but eventually I learned how it worked
2nd Phase feels so stupid no matter how many times I should be hitting his head, he yets me off a cliff and I have to start all over again or get stupidly hit by an object.
If you have to spend 6 hours on a boss fight, you know it’s a trash boss fight.

@@Leo10572there should also be more rings that spawn after a certain point. They did it in the 90s to have you spend more time with the game and to artificially make it seem harder. These bosses also just take so damn long

You can actually hit Sonic's final boss during the runner portion when he switches the gravity to zero G. You just need to slowly navigate to his head while floatng and time pressing jump to jumpball into his head. Maneuvering over to his head and timing the hit is easier than you think. Helps a lot to score that free hit and skip the cycle.
Theres a lot of people dont know anything about that 0 gravity gimmick. You can do more than float. The jumpball move during 0 G actually has like 8-10 frames of invulnerability like a dodge move, which you can use for getting through lasers in the earlier level when combined with the fact that you can jump from wall to wall to be fast enough to pass fully through during the dodge.
The jumpball dodge can also save you in the boss fight if you get a little too close to those electricity balls while trying to get the head. Its quite handy but isnt explained anywhere.
Just to add to this, there's two emerald powers that are super useful on the Anti-grav phase. You can use the Vine emerald power just before he starts the phase to move above his head, so when the anti-gravity starts you are already located beyond the energy sparks' range. The Slow Time emerald power can also be used just before he initiates anti-gravity to easily move around before the energy sparks advance too much.

Instant Kills and no checkpoint in between both bosses is hands down one of the worst, if not the worst boss designs I’ve ever seen in my 23 years of gaming. I also majored in Game Design in college, and can definitely say that my former instructors would be absolutely appalled by Trip’s final boss.
Fang's first phase would be good enough for a final boss, and the second phase would be tolerable if it was just a separate act entirely. But having to replay the first round (which gets easier with repetition but barely any faster) every time you get hit with one shot garbage is just horrible.
@@ZmanandTails You haven`t played Sonic 2. Death Egg zone. Rings are banned. 2 very hard bosses and no check points. S3K final boss also the same thing. 3 long phases, no rings.
Neither of those fights forces 20 seconds of dead time between each opportunity for an attack. And in both you die when hit because you have no rings, not because some attack breaks the rules and arbitrarily kills you.
The Eggman boss fight gave me some trouble my first time fighting him (which was on stream), but aside from the bottomless pits he causes, it’s not that bad. Though the lack of a checkpoint sucks. It’s very easy to cheese this boss as Tails (which I did do to get the Golden Enemy Hunter achievement to unlock. It only counts if it’s defeated in the same life you beat the stage with).
Fang drove me nuts. No checkpoints and a common move that instantly kills you is just… awful. The headbutt attack, even if I manage to hit him with it, I fly back, hit his spikey hand, and then get knocked further back into the bottomless pit it made. Not good at all.
1 out of 10 tries, Fang just blasts the whole screen leaving no ground to stay on.
Managed to beat this boss on my second try, It really wasnt that frustrating imo (but thats likely because I used this video for preperation), Also, Heres a tip for people struggling, get caught by the webs and spam every jump button you got, it makes him fire way more early and gives you more running room
That `s weird that you could escape being trapped in webs. For me getting trapped in the webs is ivariable instant death as controls are completely locked and Fang just whacks you with his claw for Screen KO with no way to escape.
For Fang's second "Shadow Clone" attack, use the White Emerald. Trip spits fireballs so you can attack him from a safe distance with no risk of falling or getting hit.
EDIT: May also work with the headbutt. Haven't tried it myself yet
Tip: if you get caught by the web, SPAM THE JUMP BUTTON. Not only will you be able to evade getting one-shot, but it'll stop shooting webs and will skip to the part where it spawns enemies and barrel thingies so you can damage it.

Before watching this video I never knew there was a pattern to eggman’s missiles and your tip of using the emerald powers at the later hits of the second phase is really effective, i used to think it was impossible without using emerald powers
Phase 2 of the Eggman fight is a lot less daunting when you break it down. Outside of the gravity mechanic, it's largely just a remixed variation of the Sonic 3 & Knuckles final boss.

Sonic 3 had a good dynamic, run, hit the nose, hit the emerald, avoid the blast, rinse and repeat until it explodes.
This motherfucker on the other hand is RUN because you can't do shit, wait for him to be vulnerable, hit em, now you are in zero gravity so can't do shit, now Run while you get the AliExpress Master Emerald blasts and if you don't have the Chaos Powers you are fucked because you can't do shit, do that like 2 times, and then he has an attack in which he spins and you can't do shit, he hits you and throws you into the void so now you have to do everything all over again.

No, Sonic and knuckles had a tell before the laser you could time. This is just bullshit.
Fang would be good if there was a checkpoint after phase 1
Use the multi character emerald power during the bosses final phase, you can land the final two hits on him before he starts swinging his fists, that way you cut out the bullsh#t before it even has a chance to start to it.
And if you get nocked out of it I think your best bet would be to use the emerald that slows time to get ahead (or bullet to hit him)
I've had them do 3 hits, which is half the phase lmao

Tip: Use Tails for the main story final boss, and when Eggman throws his arm or arms down (depending on how many time you hit him) fly up and just tap the fly button and dodge the sparks. Hope this helps! (Found this out myself by the way)

About Trip final boss you can use white yellow and blue emeralds to skip hard stuff in first phase, they will refresh in second phase.
And then he shoot webs its better to always try to wait first shoot inside, he always start to shoot you with cannons if he see you trapped between them (very helpful in last hits then he use double cannon)

You know, during that part when you floating in the air with sonic dodging those balls, you can hit him by floating to his head.
That would’ve been nice to know…if there was like…a better indicator for that or something
I had a strong feeling that was possible, but the section is too easy to just dodge so it might not be worth risking it on a part with guaranteed survivability
trip's boss wouldn't be so bad if there was a checkpoint between phase 1 and 2

Like you said, once you understand the patterns, he's not THAT bad. Still, it's still really annoying with the insta-kill attacks and no checkpoint after phase 1.

Oh. I thought I was restricted by the timer. That damn thing counting down scared the hell outa me and I was loosing my bloody mind cause of it. But seems I was panicking for no reason. I hate how long these damn stages and boss fights are x,x
Also on the final boss when your flying around with the lightning bolts you can get to the top of his head

For trips final boss when fang tries to headbutt the ground use either the red (bullet) or yellow (slow) emerald powers to either reach the top of the screen and tackle him or slow down time to avoid the attack
I went to the second phase, died once and thought; "Nah lemme check online real quick for once.... I'm not figuring that sh*t on my own!"

During phase 2 for sonic's final boss (the part where he starts swinging his arms across the map), use the avatar power if you have it, and you can end the fight much earlier

Alright for the 2 phase after getting a couple of hits i recommend the blue emerald power the power where you make copies of yourself
Super quick tip: in act 2 as Trip, if you get the ring monitors at the beginning of the level, you can turn Super without spending rings by cancelling it with L1 and R1 at the right time, even in the boss

Yea, this work but keep in mind you can still get caught by the webs and die one shot. Thus loosing all your rings. You would have to restart the level in order to try this glitch and super again
Also, the pink lasers can one shot you too. You have to fly above him when the diamonds are out in order to get behind him. Do not try and fly around the diamonds with pink laser
this game has some of the worst boss fights in the sonic series. the fact there's insta kill attacks in 30 min boss fights that never end is shit design. brings a fun game down so damn much

The best way to get under Fang in the first phase is to stand on the 'crack' at the top of the large hump that's on the 'right' side of it. Stand there, rev up a spin dash, and when he comes in on the one side he'll pause for the brief moment. That's when you release the spin dash. (Could be after he starts going again) but time that well and you'll get under him no problem every time.
with enough complaints i think future patch will add check points mid bosses.

In the first phase, when he does the attack with his ship crashing down. The best spot is to stop at the tallest slope, this will give you more flexibility to attack him.

These boss battles are fierce
Something I learned in the Eggman fight is that you CAN actually land an extra hit in phase two when he does the electric attack. It's VERY risky though and you will often get hit on it, but it's worth it to skip through the fight faster because waiting for 8-10 minutes just to die to the arm spin (the VERY LAST HIT, which is so evil) is so unbelievably stupid
In Act 1 the game hints us several times that we can use spin attack during the anti gravity section. I feel like it is the developers’ way of trick us into thinking using spin attack on this pattern is a smart idea. It probably at best save less than 20 seconds so big no for most players.
@@abc2390986 I don't have the patience for another 30 seconds of “dodge lasers, dodge hand slams, get one hit, back to electric attack to repeat”, especially if I’ve been fighting the boss for an hour and died to the last attack 3 times. If I have rings to spare, I'm going for it (especially because I can use the Avatar thing to skip that last hit).
When I was doing Trip’s Final Boss and I was going so fast that I think Fang was under the ground and I couldn’t hit him. This so heartbreaking for me because I was just going to be on the second phase and now I had to go through the entire zone again just to get back there
Trip's final boss feels like something from Dark Souls. Glad I'm not the only one suffering like that.

in fang phase 2, if you spam both jump buttons, you have a chance you to escape the net attack
On Knack, I found it just easier to ignore trying to hit him on his headbutt. Cause unlike with Robotnik's headbutt, you don't automatically bounce back to the platform, so it's easy to die and have to go through another 10 minutes, infact you may even just jump through him sometimes somehow. Just ignore it, let him do the bouncing bomb drops again, just survive that attack, don't get greedy, cause the price of greed is way too much time.
Imagine if timer can actually kill you and every missed attack opportunity means death sentence.
The eggman boss wasn't unfair, i just made some dumb mistakes, but the fang one was the point where i want to delete fang.

@12:32-.+With the variant with a red cursor on you, If you keep doing moving forward, it is possible for the red cursors to a line in such a way that it's physically impossible to not get caught in a web. It happens on inclines. Shut your trap.

You can actually hit eggman in the weird gravity attack by floating over to him during it and going into ball form with jump saves a bit of time

I actually really enjoyed the Fang boss fight. It's hard, but nothing about it is unfair. You CAN learn how to consistently deal with everything he throws at you.
The 1-hit KO moves can be undoubtedly frustrating. I don't think players play a Sonic game to fight a KH superbosses on Critical mode. But if you already know how to dodge everything, these 1-hit KO moves aren't much different than any other attack.
I died plenty of times when fighting him. But when I won for the first time, it felt genuinely good. That's how I know it was a good boss.
The true final boss though (the purple dragon)? That one's actually bad! It's too luck based. You just hope rings will appear frequently enough close to you so you can survive. His attack patterns are mostly fair, but non of them hurt you (except for the insta-kill black holes, which you have to sacrifice rings to escape from). It happens that, at times, it's preferable to get hit by a move so you can get rings nearby. IN WHAT BOSS WOULD YOU WANT TO PURPOSELY GET HIT??????? Also it takes about 7 minutes to defeat, which is dumb.
There are other not-so-great bosses in the game because you wait too much for openings, but non of them are unfair. I'll genuinely take the Silver boss fight from 06 over the dragon because A. It's relatively short, and B. You can manipulate him to grab stuff so you won't get grabbed yourself. Silver isn't too RNG. This dragon IS unfair.
Imagine if all dragon`s normal attacks (fireballs, lasers, meteors, holey walls etc. )can knock massive amout of rings from Super Sonic (up to 50 rings).
@@5434345 You'll have to spread more rings around and have Sonic start with more than 50 rings to make up for that.

The hitboxes on Trip's boss just don't exist sometimes and it's so infuriating to go straight through his ship and into the insta death bars.

I quit the game during Trip’s final boss. I already wasn’t having fun with her story, especially with locking the true final boss behind it, and I’d already wasted three hours on this fight alone. But to finally get to the end of the fight only to be killed by some Sonic 4 Episode 1 BS and have seven more minutes of my life go to waste immediately killed any interest I had in ever fully finishing this game. One of the worst bosses I’ve ever fought in a video game, and in a game that already has pretty terrible bosses.
Can’t wait to see all the “skill issue” comment again from fanboys who have no idea what *fair* challenging game design looks, just like with Frontiers Update 3…
Frontiers Update 3 platforming wasnt bad though and ill stand by that lol. But yeah idk what they were thinking at the end of trips story
@@SonicHubYTAgreed. I didn’t struggle with the platforming like a lot of others did. I actually enjoyed it (no checkpoints aside). It was more the second and especially fifth trials that were the problem in that case.
I had a good time with the main story, but Trip's story is unapologetically terrible. 99% of it isn't even hard thanks to her spike wisp ability and having all of the emeralds by that point, it's just poorly designed.
I agree. Trips story kinda sucks and soured my opinion on the game. They should’ve just let you get to the final boss with the chaos emeralds like the other games.

Kinda risky though for a segment that is easy to not take damage during so I chose to avoid it
