Later awards include the inaugural Sir Jeffrey Tate Prize in Hamburg, the 2019 Thierry Scherz Award at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad and a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, confirming his position at the forefront of young European soloists.

Equally in demand as a recitalist and chamber musician, Timothy’s engagements include several appearances per season at the Wigmore Hall as well as throughout the UK, Europe and Japan. Festivals invitations encompass Lucerne, Lockenhaus, Heimbach, Bergen, Evian, Boswil Sommer, Heidelberger-Frühling, Montpellier, Aspen, the Enescu Festival and the Marlboro Academy; whilst his chamber music collaborators include Joshua Bell, Isabelle Faust, Janine Jansen, Christian Tetzlaff, Nicolas Altstaedt, Steven Isserlis, Kian Soltani, Benjamin Grosvenor, Lars Vogt and Christian Gerhaher, among many others. He also maintains a regular relationship with the Nash Ensemble.
    Timothy released his debut album - Henri Vieuxtemps: Complete works for Viola - with pianist Ke Ma on Champs Hill Records in spring 2017. His second album - Music for Viola and Chamber Orchestra: Vaughan Williams, Martinu, Hindemith & Britten with Jamie Phillips and l’Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne - was released to general acclaim in February 2020 on Claves Records..

    Can also recommend his recording of the Elgar cello concerto transcribed for viola, one of the few people who can make it work in that version - and it really does.

    A very lovely crisp viola with that mature yet hollow"woodblock-y" sound! I love it. The A string seems to have tamed a lot since I last hear it. Last time I heard it, it was "shrill city" and sounded like a chainsaw :O
    A performer like Ridout deserves a great viola that is even-across-the-strings.

    Hauntingly beautiful. The first time I’ve heard the viola sound this good - astonishing ! Did anyone know what he’s playing on - the instrument is clearly superb.

    Fine playing and musicianship. What is the Instrument? Brescian?

      That's right, Tim plays a viola made by Peregrino di Zanetto of Brescia c.1565-75 on loan from a generous patron of Beare's International Violin Society.

    Finding a great viola is very difficult. Almost all violas sound harsh and nasal on the A string. My viola sound great and its be a modern Chicago maker. I still wish I could find a gut like thicker A string. Violist should try a slightly thinner C string to maker the low C sound not so dull and wolffie and covered. PIANO IS TOOOOO LOUD!

    • @harveybrown37
      @harveybrown37 Před 2 lety +6

      The balance is fine as far as I can tell. It is Viola centred and having played with piano many times , a realistic aural experience. Are you a Violinist ?
