Why not just spent 1/3 of the money and get a real FPV racing drone? this is extremely costly just to create a half frankenstein drone without an actual gimbal.
Why don’t you mount it on the back, so you get both coming and going shots, and can still see the view front he Mavic camera?

Attaching a GoPro to a drone with a proper setup and a real time video feedback is what freestylers have been doing for years.
I was thinking the same m you can build a drone under $100 that out performs anything from DJI and do a better job of mounting the Go pro.

@Reddog Apparel yeah, I found a video on cheap FPV builds on CZcams back when there was reaction videos to the Turkey tourism video, I'll see if I can find it. But I'm sure you can Google it too. Cheap FPV builds and kits are real easy to find. You have to put it together yourself, but some of the parts are as low as $2-3. The GoPro being the most expensive part.

I have a fleet of mjx bugs 3 drones that I use with GoPro custom gimbal mount for filming action shots at skate/bike park. Super stable flight and speed of the drone with the homemade gimbal and GoPro 7 image stabilization is best combo I've found. Bugs/ghost/f-100 drones are 89 bucks with 2 batteries on Amazon. You don't have to deal with any of the sensors GPS, OPTICAL FLOW, ETC...It does take one person to fly and another to operate camera for professional grade shots but when we are dialed in they are above and beyond the rest. These guys are funny and I don't think Canadian. Maybe Swiss. 🤟

Those flight transitions right into the cab of the Xterra were amazing!!!! Btw your location is epic. Snow capped mountains, forests, rivers, lakes and ponds....I can't wait to move out of Vegas to some greenery. Good job guys.

I picked up a Karma and go pro combo a few months back. It really is a shame they had such a poor start. The Karma is a pretty good drone considering all you get as you mentioned. I think with a little more time they had a really winning idea. I certainly love mine.
I think that they are winning still because I currently have one and they have fixed their problem and the drone is amazing

if you put go pro underneath drone belly you will get better centre of gravity it might handle better plus you will be able to see what the go pro see,just a thought hope this helps.

What if you have a gopro and you get one of those cheap drones of wish and mount the gopro on?
I've done this. The downsides are: Cheaper drones have worse controllers, worse performance out of the drone in bad conditions, less control over the camera, few or no features. If you're an amazing pilot it won't matter. It's a great way to save some money, I got a $150 great drone, which included a 3d gimbal. Then just add the camera, mine was $200. I just got a mavic air on sale for $599 and I like it way better.

Good work gents. I particularly like the transition from a shot of the outside of the car to an inside shot and the camera mounted on the side of the car; if that was just stabilised on the GoPro then it was amazing.

Nice idea... but you better put the gopro7 on a race drone... and you will get way more dynamic and smooth footage in comparison to a DJI drone... but i like your creativity anyways :o)

Go Pro 7 stabilisation is awesome: they should put on the market a gps drone capable to lift it and let this great action camera do the trick.

They have Karma
A camera can only crop the image to "fake it" to look smooth. Ending up with poor quality and less smooth image then a 3 axe gimbal. The mavic 2 pro with same 1" sensor as sony rx100 and hasselblad optic is already better then gopro + it got gimbal so i dont really see any point

dude freestyle FPV quadcopters can do soo much more and still carry a go pro, we've been doing this for a long time.

Brilliant. What about mounting a GoPro Fusion VR? So the stabilization on the Fusion is almost as good as HyperSmooth and 5k. Not 60FPS yet but at least you would never miss a shot with reframing tools in Premiere.

The point to the experiment was to see if he could create a DJI Mavic Air with the same functionality as the GoPro drone, to be able to detach the camera and use it as a standalone unit for stills or other video work, rather than taking along a second camera

i think the point was to install the best action camera on one of the best drones.
I think the point of this was an experiment to replicate the user-interface of the Karma Drone to justify that need in the drone world. The Karma was such genius...unfortunately the drone blew donkey dick.

Yeah i agree. If anything this video just shows how freaking awesome the mavic air is. I gotine used for 500 bucks. Amazing little drone. But i also have the hero7 which is amazing as well. But for drone footage I'll stick with the mavic air.

How would a action cam look in 2018 if Gopro has not missed all (for a action cam ) important inventions of the last 5 years? ;-)
I have no idea how 1000 Gopro employees can design cameras for shaky movements and pass gimbals, optical/digital stabilization and drones totally over years????
Today they sell nothing else than 3 year old, waterproofed video technology (they have changed only the microphone and the RAM since 2015) what you can find in every modern smartphone - what a invention! :D
The main problem is, that this old tech can only capture at 75 Mbit/s (the Mavic Air can do 100 Mbit/s) which is way to less for fast moving 4K60 content and you can see that clearly in all that blocky artefacts of the Gopro footage.
Don't understand me wrong the digital stabilizations is good, but it's nothing you can do also with a Gopro 5 and after effects.
And because of the missing optical stabilization of the lens/sensor you get a lot of really ugly/blurry smear frames in all that digital stabilized footage.
I think DJI has already won the game - They have better video technology, better gimbals, better tracking, better vision sensors, better AI, better drones and i'm pretty sure they will announce very soon a small "osmo pocket" with way better image quality and stabilization than the Gopro 7 can offer.
The future is not bright for Gopro - and there last chance is a really good Gopro 8 with:
- A modern and little bit bigger 16 MP sensor (better in dynamic and lowlight)
- A combination of optical and digital image stabilization in body.
- At least two different optical focal lengths (changeable or variable lens)
- A faster processor who can handle 10 Bit color depth and video bitrate of min. 120 Mbit/s.
- A black/with oled display on the front (that should have been already on the Gopro 7)
we will see...
So you really think they couldn't do more? :D -lets see what DJI can do with the upcoming "OSMO Pocket" ;-)
I bet stabilization and image quality will be better.
My Point is:
That Gopro missed a lot of action cam relevant tech in the last years. And they didn't changed there hardware in the last 3 years in the relevant parts. 1) Image Quality, 2)Processor (more Bitrate for 4K) and 3)hardware imagestabilsion.
What they did in three years was ram, micro and software improvements. That's it.
You know, in 2009 it was cool do have a waterproofed camera. But in 2015 every middle class smartphone can do that and Gopro did not changed their strategy at all and keeped on building simple waterproof cameras with no real advantages over smartphones.
Since 2011 i wait for a gopro with image stabilization because its footage looks very shaky and unprofessional. So i ordered 2011 or 2012 the first gimbal done by feiyu tech direct from china and the big company Gopro missed that train totally until 2016 :D :D :D
Stabilization is the most important things in action cam footage and Gopro didn't do anything about it until the Hero 6 last year - sorry but that's more than crazy!!!
@your Points:
1) Yes, but they use the same sensor since 2015 (`=old tech) ... the rest is only software optimation!
2) Voice commands is at the moment not more than a nice gimmick. They should have worked on stabilization first!
3) Yes i said that they added only ram and a new microphone to the Hero 7. Thats in my opinion the absolute minimum you have do to for a new 430€ cam.
4) dynamic and color is only "improved" by software not more.
6) They had to do h265 to keep their old/slow processor with a max. Bitrate of 75Mbit/s ...and even with h265 it is to less for fast actions ( i have a lot of artefacts!) ...good 4K60 needs 100+ even with h265.
7) ISO over 400 is worthless on the old sensor of the Hero 5,6,7.
8) Maybe? ... but Sony does it since years and they have not real problems with it and Gopro had full 8 years to work on a solution ;-) ...shaky footage is THE MAIN PROBLEM of action cams and Gopro builds 10 years action cams!

1 inch sensor = overheating??? :D ...In my opinion it has not do be a much bigger sensor but a new and modern sensor!!!! Not 3 year old smartphone tech like my Galaxy S7 (which has by the way also optical stabilization :-/ ) It should handle 800 ISO without ugly noise! and offer a little bit more dynamic range than 7 stops.
For 4K60 it needs a new and faster processor who can capture with 100+ Mbit/s.
And it needs a optical stabilization in combination to the software stabilization to avoid that ugly smear frames.
In one sentence the Gopro 8 has do to better video and stabilization than the next smartphone generation will do!

The 79 Mbps is in HEVC (H265) on the Hero7, not old H264. That is twice as efficient. So, equivalent to 160 Mbps in H264. Look it up. Many CZcams reviewers make this mistake. You need a powerful processor to compress in H265. Sony pro cameras cannot do it.
@@markr041 I know, that H265 is more efficient than H264. I was one of the first who was asking in the Gopro Forum to implement it after the release of the Hero 5 :-) ... But in my opinion 79 Mbps its even with H265 not enough! I see way more blocky artefacts in my Hero7 footage than i do in my Mavic Air footage (captured with 100 Mbps H264). And yes, its way smoother to work with as correctly noted.
Patrick proier You are correct, HEVC is hard to work with, but it makes no sense that 100 Mbps H264 has less macro blockjng than 79 Mbps H265. Something is amiss, and its not bitrate.
