I went to Chatsworth high school with Thom Bresh around 1965-1966.. Back then he had an incredible trio called the Thom Bresh Combo. The trio consisted of Rusty Rutlidge on drums, Tom Mitchel on Fender Bass, Thom Bresh on guitar and all three of them on vocals. The group was a perfect musical combination . Even after 54 years they were one of the most talented musical groups I ever heard. david
Get the CD with Merle , Chet, Marcel Dadi and ohers on Shanachie--out of print--simply great tribute to Merle. It should be illegal to let these things go out of print.
Oh, yeah... this is the REAL Nine Pound Hammer!! Doc Watson and all those acoustic nazis have shortened the verses down from the way that Merle originally did it. I'm glad to hear it done right!!! Thanks, guys!!!!!!! rick jolley Colorado Springs
Acoustic "nazis", pardon me? This traditional song was composed on acoustic long before electric guitars were invented. Look it up. Merle's version was fine, but not the only way to play it. Merle's buddy, Doc Watson was one of best and most versatile guitarists ever in country music. Look that up, too.
his fantsy playing didnt save him from death did it and now its in the grave with him, gone, forever, so what good is it? why i cant motivate myself to be great at anything no more.
"Nothing to be done"... Waiting for Godot. In the end its all useless, but don't give up. We got be here so give it all you got and let the chips fall where they may.
@@jysmtl Chet was usually very kind to other players, quite gracious in fact, but I don't see him being that way toward Tom. I never saw him include the other player before in some joke. I've been following chet for most of his career, and this is why this jumped out of me. Not the same old chet I've seen.
Well, me too. Chet was an idol for me going back to the 60s. I watched the clip again and I see what you’re getting at. I don’t think he meant it the way it came out. He just wouldn’t do that.
My guess has always been that Gibson payed him a lot more money than Gretsch ever could. I agree. I've also played that Gibson he's playing as well as the gretsch and like the sound and the feel of the Gretsch much better.
I've seen other videos where chet was kind a rude to Thom, Actually Thom was as good if not better than chet,And I play guitar and I listen to every guitar player I can find and search that's my opinion,But I think every guitar player has a special beautiful style of playing in all players,There is so many underated guitar players and that's sad.
Three legends all on the same stage together!! To bad Merle couldn't be there in person. What an awesome trio!!!

I love how Steve can rip it with the best of them, and is still humble enough to stay on rhythm guitar for that second tune.
Yep and he can sing as well. He is one of the best guitar players
Chet still outshines them all. Truely gifted by God with his talents.
Years ago when I was a kid----Chet would would come on the radio with a tune of his, and mom would always say "there's the master"
Three legends. We’ve lost two so far. Stay alive Steve. ❤
Whoa! What???? Thom Bresh died?
Cancer... Jesus... He was truly phenomenal.
Can't get much better than this!!!!!!

it's Wariner. Good shit!!!
Beautiful picking

Chet sounds really short of breath here :( His health must have been pretty bad already when this was done.

Death is not the end. This life is only the rehearsal.

Is it my imagination or was Chet taking pot shots at Tom.. Some kind of an axe to grind? I guess I'm more used to a gracious Chet.
Fred Flintstone no, that was Chet’s humor.

I have never liked the sound from chets gibson. He should have stayed with his gretsch

Evan Twitty is better!
