  • Food activists Everybody Eats are performing so-called 'Robin Hood' raids on supermarkets across England and donating stolen products to food banks. On Saturday 27th.
    In their latest action, the group took trolleys filled with essentials from several supermarkets in Hastings and donated them to a food bank they claim had run out stock. The group say 1,000 people would have gone hungry had they not stepped in.
    Police are aware and enquiries are ongoing.
    Activists have conducted raids on over 25 supermarkets.
    They have also given out stolen products on the street and put them straight into supermarket donation bins.
    The group say they will continue until nobody goes hungry, while the British Retail Consortium warned them that stealing 'is not a victimless crime'.

    Stealing is wrong full stop and when I was a kid we went without when we didn't have the money for food or heating because we'd suffer rather than steal. I don't think most people down on their luck wants people to steal for them. Also if like me you have been in a shop that was held up by a man with a gun it is terrifying, this guy say peaceful but how long will everyone play the peaceful game? I think it is coming from a desperate place because of the world not doing enough especially these rich in power and it do break your hearts that children, elderly and people are hungry and suffering, especially when you go to supermarkets were they have let food go out of date so they can just bin it, it does make you sick as it could have gone to a food bank. So although stealing is wrong supermarkets could do better than waste food. So there will always be wrong on all sides.

    Defence of necessity. They are feeding people in poverty, and with those profits, they aren't exactly struggling. No violence, they are doing it for the community, and not taking advantage by stealing for themselves. I dont necessarily condone stealing, but something does need to be done.

    It's never right to steal. I can't believe it's being defended. Saira is right. The Trussell Trust food bank is effectively a business that pays it's top earners over a million from donations, yet relies on public donations and voluntary workers. Donate to small independent food banks. If supermarkets are making too much profit then protest about that. Stealing is immoral and once you think that's okay, where does it end?

    • @MephitisUK
      @MephitisUK Před měsícem

      Care to quote where the top earners at the Trussell Trust are paid millions? Emma Revie, the CEO was paid £80,000 a year in 2017, her predecessor was paid just under £60,000 a year.

    • @maryjones4029
      @maryjones4029 Před měsícem +1

      @@MephitisUK In 2022, the top 25 earners at the Trussell Trust earned over 1.5 million between them, I didn’t mean they were individually earning a million. (By comparison in 2021 they had 6 employees who were earning between £60,000 and £100.00). Think how much food that would buy. This can be checked online on their Annual Report and Accounts. I wouldn’t be surprised if the current top earners are earning even more now. They had an income of £60 million and £40 million of that was excess sitting on their accounts and they wanted to spend this excess money on things like research (which will mean more on wages too). So there's no need to steal from supermarkets, just need to make sure donations go to local independent food banks.

      @@MephitisUK My reply to you was deleted. I'll try again with less detail this time. (By comparison in 2021 there were 6 employees who were earning between £60,000 and £100.000). This info can be found online on their Annual Report and Accounts. They also had an excess of 40 million sitting in their account which they planned to use on research etc. and not food for the hungry.

    The people stealing are thick too. They want to take credit for something they never worked for, at all.
    It's just another attempt to try and look good by doing a crime. It's they don't suffer any loses these lot who steal too
