Hey Sven! I have been watching your stuff a lot and I have to say, nothing against Emily but, these kinds of videos are really so much better when it is just you. I feel like because she was in with you it rushed it and made you throw your normal cadence off. Please don't think that I am saying anything bad about her but adventure games and you are a lot of fun and the slow pace and explanation that you do makes it really that much more fun. With her there, you did not really explain your thinking as much.
Hi Emily :). You're definitely not the only one! My boyfriend enjoys watching me play adventure games, and he got really motion sick when I used free roam. I ended up playing most of the rest of the game in point and click mode so he could watch at all...
Adventure game protagonists aren't just terrible athletes & swimmers, they're extremely aquaphobic and acrophobic, except for characters in Uru, who spend most of their time jumping across very deep gaps, and will swim in Ahnonay at least.
Love it that you're playing this game. Was hoping you'd go for hour slot instead of half hour (hint), but I digress. I did watch the entire game from another let's play person, but I was hoping for your commentary for various reasons. Please keep up the great work that you do and it's great that you're playing with your wife.
Mofang...Villein...I get the feeling human technology is lagging behind those two given what little we've seen. Also, nice to have a special guest every now and again.
Nice to have you back Emilie. George joslun from the USA again. Saw your wedding video, it was great. So Emilie is my daughter and you guys got married on my wife's birthday. Unreal. Congrats you two.
I didn't get any motion sickness, but my mom definitely did. She's had to play it in short sessions because it gets to uncomfortable. I'm hoping that playing it in windowed mode with a sufficiently small window will help, but she hasn't tried that yet.
Hi Emily, it's nice to hear you again! :D As for the motion sickness, I don't usually get sick while watching/playing games of this kind. I didn't have the issue with Obduction either, but I kind of like getting immersed, so that outer world doesn't exist to my eyes and when I look out finally, I get a really strange feeling :D Doesn't happen very often though. I guess it's a good idea to take breaks for those who suffer from motion sickness, like doing eye gymnastics or just walking around for a bit. I don't truly know :o
This mini-laser... When I played the game, I was turning the laser back and forth first and when i turned it on, I was apparently facing the laser side and it just exploded in my screen with blue :D Made me jump away from my screen. Freaky! Don't stand inside this laser lol.
Only 10 planned overly chipper monologues from himself or others regarding what a wonderful place Hunrath is? I must congratulate Josef on his restraint.
My hubby and I played together too, and we definitely had an issue with the non-driver getting motion sickness when they watched for too long. We felt like we just couldn't get the camera to move smoothly enough with the mouse no matter what settings we tweaked. We have a pretty powerful gaming computer, but we did play it soon after release, so perhaps they improved the camera frame-rate later on.
No offence to Emily, but nattering about motion sickness, your home PC setup, and other mundane matters REALLY spoils the immersive element of why we play this type of game...and Sven's take on them in particular.
I've never used any of those. Growing up we had a tiny lawn and used a hand-pushed mower, not a powered one. Airplane engines are the only thing I've ever had to prime.
Didn't get motion sickness here. But did get a tweak to my fear of heights on Myst V Todelmer walking up the stairs and getting close to plateau edges.
Hi Emily! And I'm so glad you're uploading Sven. It just wasn't the same watching others play a cyan game. I'll play when I get my pc upgraded. Emily, I swear Cyan could've spooped us to death if they wanted to in several places here. Thank God they don't do spoopy stuff.
No motion sickness here with the mouse. But it's weird, in some games i play with a controller i get a little bit motion sick when i'm turning. I also played The Vanishing of Ethan Carter in vr with a controller, got motion sick, played Half Life 2 incl. both addons in vr with mouse and keyboard and had no problem. I think it's because with the mouse you turn in sync with your hand movements while that is not the case with the controller, where you just move your thumb a bit and keep turning until you move you thumb back to it's original position. Btw. the vr support of Obduction isn't that great imho, performance is bad and the textures look very two dimensional, even on max graphics. I think there are some bumpmapping/tesselation(?) effects missing in the vr version. There are other vr games that look and work way better. *edit* Got curious, tested vr mode again and i think they improved it. Looks a lot better now, but performance is still an issue.
JUST TO MAKE IT ALL CLEAR: do as you wish keep emily dont keep her. but the least thing she could do if she is in is to freaking watch the last videos and dont ask questions that already been answered. i mean wtf emily? if you dont care dont freaking show up, you like a lil cartman try to cut a slice from the pizza he didnt want in the first place.
I read that motion sickness is the body's reaction against poisonous psychadelics (to get them out of your system), so if you are watching the game move without controlling it, it makes sense your brain would react like it's a hallucination and trigger nausea. only time I've gotten it was watching your Portal 2 videos!
I think the sickness might come from the weird way the handled mouse control settings. I use a Genius DeathTaker, it has this sensitivity button on top (as most multiple button mice do), i have to stick with 2 or 3 setting because there's no way to get the sweet spot otherwise. And if i don't, and use the normal one (smallest value) it acts really strange, really, strange.
This is one thing that pissed me off in this game, and i was really hoping they'd grow out of it. The fact that obstacles aren't really obstacles and merely a decision to not go that way. I know this is Cyan's MO but still, i wished they'd do without it.
Definitely had motion sickness when I first played but it was much better after I found settings and took the lock off of the pointer/curser and could move that freely and independently when I had to click on something.
14-minutes in and I am total Team Sven-solo. Really sorry Sven but I've been traveling with you for hours and hours and hours and to now throw someone else into the mix is just a bit disconcerting and the added voice with all the questions and comments totally takes you out of the immersion. Sorry Mrs Groot.
What happens if you push the button to play the recording of Farley after destroying the Mofang device with the blue beam at 27:50? Come on Sven, after watching all your other LP's on CZcams, I thought you were a thorough Let's Player... In any case, thanks for the months of entertainment!
I'd be careful to mess with the dome. Who's to say you'd be left with a human-breathable atmosphere, if you did manage to remove a portion or the entirety of it?
Yes, I did get motion sickness. I have to watch at a much slower speed. The faster the replay the sicker I get. This does not happen with any of the replays of the Myst series point-and-click. I cannot watch the VR series. Its a shame.
I agree, but he can do what he wants. I don't dislike her, but I like his lets plays because I find them quiet and calming, and having a dialogue kind of ruins that appeal for me personally.
Turning off the crosshair can make motion sickness worse, as well. And FOV needs to be adjusted when using a TV as well, because an ill-fitting FOV can cause motion sickness too.
Agreed its hard for me to play game under 90 fov but I know im in the minority in that camp. I hope that when Cyan makes a new game it will be a little more optimized. Regardless I'm still going to play it. ;P
Yes, we read that in the note in this video. Please don't spoil puzzle solutions in the comments before we get to them (I deleted your comment on the previous video for that reason).
These videos are always the highlight of my day!! Thanks for making them!
I dread to hear the phrase " we'll do that in the next video", it means my entertainment has come to an end
Dang, I had to pay $2000 in Vegas to get the "Double Groot Fantasy" and CZcams is giving it away for free.
You can get a lot of things free on CZcams and the internet.
Hey Sven! I have been watching your stuff a lot and I have to say, nothing against Emily but, these kinds of videos are really so much better when it is just you. With her there, you did not really explain your thinking as much.
Commenting again, even though this is old, to say this is exactly it.
I like Emily. Normally wouldn't comment but I saw some comments to the contrary and I wanted to make sure she comes back :)
Hi Emily :). You're definitely not the only one! My boyfriend enjoys watching me play adventure games, and he got really motion sick when I used free roam. I ended up playing most of the rest of the game in point and click mode so he could watch at all...
such a delight having emily back in the videos! i also get really creeped out peeking into closed off areas, glad there's someone i can relate too!
Adventure game protagonists aren't just terrible athletes & swimmers, they're extremely aquaphobic and acrophobic, except for characters in Uru, who spend most of their time jumping across very deep gaps, and will swim in Ahnonay at least.

Mofang...Villein...I get the feeling human technology is lagging behind those two given what little we've seen. Also, nice to have a special guest every now and again.
Funny that you mention motion sickness. I am fine when playing the game myself, but I started feeling weird at one point while watching these videos.
Nice to have you back Emilie. George joslun from the USA again. Saw your wedding video, it was great. So Emilie is my daughter and you guys got married on my wife's birthday. Unreal. Congrats you two.

Wow every time it gets good I hear " but we will do that in the next video"
Hi Emily, it's nice to hear you again! :D

Thanks for this episode with Emily! amazing job as always
This reminds me so much of a D&D-setting that I was thinking of writing at one point in my life.
I love it when Emily co-stars! Great video
This mini-laser... When I played the game, I was turning the laser back and forth first and when i turned it on, I was apparently facing the laser side and it just exploded in my screen with blue :D Made me jump away from my screen. Freaky! Don't stand inside this laser lol.
I watched someone else's let's play-type video early on (while waiting for Sven) and got horribly motion sick, but so far I'm ok with this series
Good thing you have a powerful gaming PC.
Because it was difficult to get those books/pages to load properly.
Only 10 planned overly chipper monologues from himself or others regarding what a wonderful place Hunrath is? I must congratulate Josef on his restraint.
Does Josef sound like anything in particular?
Wait...C.W. is played by the same guy who played Sirrus in Myst?!
Well, his acting is way better in Obduction than in Myst, in my opinion.
Yes, it's Robyn Miller. :)
That paper talking about those seeds . . . could it have been talking about that weird thing we saw at the beginning? That's what I'm guessing.
My hubby and I played together too, and we definitely had an issue with the non-driver getting motion sickness when they watched for too long. We felt like we just couldn't get the camera to move smoothly enough with the mouse no matter what settings we tweaked. As soon as You rotated the sphere, I thought back to Myst and Riven, too. Remember the tower rotation.
Nice with dual comments, sound was good. Most garden machines, lawnmovers, chain saws etc requires priming, so it is not that exotic concept.
I've never used any of those. Growing up we had a tiny lawn and used a hand-pushed mower, not a powered one. Airplane engines are the only thing I've ever had to prime.
Dilandau3000 but you do have boats. Never had to start an outboard? ;-)
My only experience is with sailboats, I'm afraid. :)
Yes, Emily, I got motion sick and had to buy anti-nausea patches!
I also have a Sirrus/Robyn Miller crush! But no motion sickness.
I like it when you two do a collab video!
So... Emily had a... "Sirrus" crush on him..? :o
Sorry! :x
No motion sickness here with the mouse. But it's weird, in some games i play with a controller i get a little bit motion sick when i'm turning. I can imagine Rand telling Robyn "I was playing Atrus in all of the myst games and I hated it! Now it's your turn to do the acting!"
I read that motion sickness is the body's reaction against poisonous psychadelics (to get them out of your system), so if you are watching the game move without controlling it, it makes sense your brain would react like it's a hallucination and trigger nausea.
only time I've gotten it was watching your Portal 2 videos!
No motion sickness on these type of games for me. I love boats and rollercoasters because of the disorientation they give me.
Chiming in late with a response to Emily. I experienced some motion sickness watching this very video in full screen mode :D
14:30 Red pages, red beam, Sirrus... *waiting for Achenar to pop up and demand we do something with the blue beam*
I think the sickness might come from the weird way the handled mouse control settings. I use a Genius DeathTaker, it has this sensitivity button on top (as most multiple button mice do), i have to stick with 2 or 3 setting because there's no way to get the sweet spot otherwise. Yes I got sick playing it. The motion.
I have motion sickness using a compter and keyboard. I am a woman, wonder if we are more prone to it
Definitely had motion sickness when I first played but it was much better after I found settings and took the lock off of the pointer/curser and could move that freely and independently when I had to click on something.
Hi Emily!
I only got motion sickness when I tried this game in VR. 🙂
I've never really gotten motion sickness from video games. But I have a friend that got motion sickness from Half Life 2 when it came out YEARS ago.
There's NO WAY IRL that I wouldn't go across that track! Haha.
14-minutes in and I am total Team Sven-solo. I'm a bit late responding but yes! I had motion sickness last night playing this game on my laptop! I really felt awful!
Hunrath must be an alternate dimension, like the Ages in Myst.
It's explained later on
I'd be careful to mess with the dome. Who's to say you'd be left with a human-breathable atmosphere, if you did manage to remove a portion or the entirety of it?
Some mouse smoothing would definitely make the videos more watchable, but I'm not anywhere near getting motion sickness.
I've heard that you can play many rift exclusives on vive using ReVIVE.
red and blue beams, right
Yea, its not red pages anymore its red BEAMS! Dun dun DUN!
I got just a little motion sick for some reason while playing this game. It's weird, since I usually don't get that from games :S
I got motion sick when I tried to play this in VR.
Hold on. There was a reference to a planet floating above earth and you didn't make it an Escaflowne reference?
sven don't run please walk slowly ok?
are you ok?
ja i'm ok, why are you asking?
Yes, I did get motion sickness. I have to watch at a much slower speed. The faster the replay the sicker I get. This does not happen with any of the replays of the Myst series point-and-click. I cannot watch the VR series. Its a shame.
By "VR" I meant to reference the "Oculus" version. Sorry for any confusion.
what was that noise at 16:30
increse the pov and the motion sickness will be gone
What happened to your channel portrait? :O
That's a good question. It still shows up next to my comments. CZcams is being weird, I guess.
It was just a purple "D" for a while. it's back now though. Hm, very mysterious.
Emily... again? Who Emily?
Dad please notice me... Please
No more Emily please. This is story time with a very specific voice/ cadence.
DAD! Please notice me!!!!!!
one dislike? why? who disliked sven's cool video?
sven, i appreciate your wife but please play alone ok?
I like when you work together or alone. they are both good :)
get over yourself
I agree, but he can do what he wants. I don't dislike her, but I like his lets plays because I find them quiet and calming, and having a dialogue kind of ruins that appeal for me personally.
The frame rate in this game is not very stable at all. That can easily cause motion sickness.

Agreed its hard for me to play game under 90 fov but I know im in the minority in that camp. I hope that when Cyan makes a new game it will be a little more optimized.
Regardless I'm still going to play it. ;P
the password for farley's house is 6341, basically her address backwards sven
Yes, we read that in the note in this video. Please don't spoil puzzle solutions in the comments before we get to them (I deleted your comment on the previous video for that reason).
i would literally pay you to replay all the myst games again if it meant emily could come and comment along as well
