What's The REAL Cost Of Building A 60's Mopar Muscle Car? Well I Ain't Cheap...

  • My 1968 Plymouth Satellite is all together and I've been driving it daily, enjoying every mile. This wasn't the cheapest way to bring an old muscle car back to life but I didn't sacrifice anything for safety.
I spent money where it was needed in the floors, quarters, brakes and suspension. It may not be the absolute prettiest but I guarantee it's one of the most solid B bodies on the road.

I think you did great Dan, if you've had offers in the high teens. The profit is rarely worth the labor involved. But one thing for sure, you brought enjoyment to the people watching.Thank for that.

There's know price for bringing back these old cars too life bud ,great job. The sad part of this is I am 64 year's old ,my uncle and is dad has a junk yard, I been around it sense the late 60s, and seen alot of great car's get crushed , Crazy I know, so thank you guys for bringing them back, I wish I could.

I'd say you made out great overall. As we learned from C.A.R.'s generous donation, there still is a brotherhood of car enthusiasts out there who enjoy helping each other, as it was in my '60's hot rodding days. Channels like yours are bringing that camaraderie back, which I think is great. You're motivating, helping and making friends, which is worth more than $. You can drive it for a while, and still sell it for a profit, even considering your labor. Can't say that about a new car bought from a dealer. Thumbs up!

I don't count my time, because I enjoy doing this, its therapy to keep me busy so my mind doesn't go bad places (result of war and a hard life growing up) my focus is on driving them after the build. Its not the car itself, its not the status or 'look what I have' thing either, no for me its all about what I can do with them. They are the medium in which my abilities, knowledge, and intellect can be measured and weighed to see where I am in the learning process. Getting it done for less than $10k when its a mopar is impressive.

Nice to see what the actual $$ amount was. We can see the time spent is significant also! We've followed along, and it was only in 20 minute increments! Your time to edit, and stuff we didn't see behind the scenes. It's a lot of time commitment. Thank you for giving us a chance to see what all goes into this! It has both inspired me, and made me realize it's a big time commitment, and money pit. I am more determined than ever to get my old Valiant going, finish my 80's truck, and get to work on my 47 chev.

Nice job, Dan. I check both Facebook and Craig's List frequently, and a satellite like yours would easily go for that high teens (American!) any day of the week, so your labor was well spent. But don't get rid of it - I think you would enjoy it more as a daily driver than the Challenger, although it will be interesting to see how that ends up when you get done with your proposed changes to make it streetworthy. Thanks for the entertainment. And Danni, thanks for the filming, support and chuckles, keeping Dan honest!

The trick with anything in life is don't get overwhelmed, stick to the plan and don't spend what you can't afford (remember it's a hobby). It might mean doing some horsetrading , swapping work and taking some time off from a project but it will get done. It's like real estate, collector cars have their ups and downs but if you do as much as you can yourself you will prevail. Good job Danny Boy!

11 years ago I picked up a rock solid short bed 83’ 4 speed D150 ,slant six ,66k miles for $1,900. I dropped in a Very Happy 318 a year later once I got a little taste of mopar power I knew I wanted more! So literally after saving pocket change and 5 dollar bills for 10 years I finally broke that piggy bank last month 🤑 Mopar=MoMoney but im still spending a fraction of what new muscle cars or trucks with over 500hp cost you don’t have to spend $50k+ to have fun!

I would say that you have a certified investment there Dan for the outlay - as somebody else has said, 'pay' to get the wing repaired and painted and....Taa Daa! House down payment...UNLOCKED! But keep and enjoy for as long as you can/want. Nice car.

it cost more to restore than it did when it was new. that's kinda crazy when you think about it. i just drug a 1936 chevy truck in rough shape out of the woods where it had sat for close to 50 years. i don't even want to contemplate what i'll have in it before it's back on the road. but i only have a couple hundred bucks in it, so that helps. now all i need is glass, drivetrain, running gear, seats, wiring, paint, sheet metal for the cab, doors and floor, door hinges, handles and latches,....uhh, i think i'm gonna go lie down for a bit. i'm feeling kinda lightheaded and woozy.

I think that’s about £6k UK money not bad at all. But what did you earn from it on you tube, hypothetic question
You enjoyed doing it hold onto it and it will make some money, great work

  • @shadetreemechanicracing22

My Mopar buddy has spent way more money on his satellite than I have on all my cars put together.

I have loved watching this build. Gotta say partially because of this series I am on the hunt for a Dart. Finished the F150 in January, hope to finish the Cutlas S by fall so hopefully next winter I’ll have my first mopar in the stable. Cheers man! Enjoy all your videos

I owned a 66 cornet in the 80s and a 71 Charger my first car I paid for was in 1982 I was 18 I bought a 302 71 2 door Mercury comet from the Chevy dealer where I worked I got it whole Sale price for $400 it needed a clutch when I bought it why it was sold as whole sale not on the " ok used car lot " .. I worked at the dealership as a new car detailer and used . I detailed them when they were delivered off the truck and again for the new buyer when they sold . I loved that job my first real job went from there to a junk yard as a mechanic removing parts from cars in the yard I ended up trading the v8 comet for a 71 charger with 58,000 original miles on it ..anyway the owner paid me extra every week to stay late and rebuild motors with the son who was my age and a friend .

I paid 5,000 for a 74 nova a couple years ago, running driving. 350/350. Nasty cheap diy paint and a couple dents but… Decent deals still out there.
