I owe 90% of my self teaching to this channel. Ive played guitar for a year now and im finally comfortably able to play this and other songs. I wouldn't have been able to do it without these great covers. Thank you for motivating me and others to learn!
Being able to play a song like this when you started a year ago is a huge feat! I've been playing for 3 years and it's been practically this last year when I feel confident enough to play this kind of songs

@@cubic_regent a year?! Dang i think i could only play teen spirit after a year, then a bunch of metallica jams after that. These riffs are intense! It takes me now about 3 weeks to get everything down and playable at speed.

But yeah. There's really no other way than playing it tideously slow when you start to learn it. Really annoying. Mark did a proper job writing that riff.

I just learned the intro and first verse to priestess and its only smiles, the thing that gets me with his riffs are all the opens he plays in between. They are tough but so rewarding when you nail it down. This looks like it'll be my next to learn!
Its kinda hard at first but once you get the mechanics down it feels very natural and fluid to play

Been a Mark Holcomb fan for years now, ever since I first heard the Haunted Shores E.P, specially the song Immaterial. That was the first Holcomb song I had ever heard. This was before he officially joined periphery as well. I credit finding him with getting me out of a massive guitar playing rut because his style totally reshaped how I approach guitar. This song is just another example of how incredibly talented the guy is and this is absolutely one of the most inspirational pieces he's written. Fantastic cover. I take pride in my ears when it comes to guitar, and I can usually pick-up on the little things pretty quickly when it comes to covers. You nailed this. The playing and technique is tight. I can hear your guitar tracks easily over the album tracks, which speaks to your confidence in your playing, and that's refreshing to hear when it comes to covers. Great job.
I don't know what it is, but that little fast half-step bend he does that sort of resolves the main riff every time before it repeats just hits me right in the soul every time I hear it. To the average person listening, it's just some little thing that's part of the song. To me as someone who plays guitar and connects with this kind of music, it just oozes with soul and hits me in the guitar "feels" every single time he hits it lol. Referring to the quick bend you can hear for the first times at 0:13 and 0:18 into the intro riff.

Bro, the bend your speaking of, it bends me as well. Gives me the fucking chills every time. This riff is just a fucking master piece dude. The way he maps out the chords he wants to hit and then arppegiates them.. and then on the second time around going up on the slide instead of down and then the turn around to bring it all back together is just absolutely fucking brilliant man.
