- Michael McGoldrick plays the Uilleann pipes for this set.
This video was recorded during the first gig of Temple bar trad fest 2012.
I've decided, I don't like Michael McGoldrick any more. He's just too good. :)
Enjoy. - Hudba
My love of your pipes, , goes deep in my brain, & heart ...
Mike Mcgoldrick in full fling is utter brilliance
God damn right! Flawless performance makes me wanna take the pipes back up again
When you hear the uileann pipes you look at the ceiling and cry for joy ,tears run down your face
Speaking as a bodhran player, I can definitely hear him. He's in the mix with the others. The reason you don't think you can hear him is that (a) JJK is extremely good, so he's matching the guitar player perfectly and (b) the tipper isn't a traditional wood tipper, but a brush tipper, so the sound is different.
Liam O'Flynn would be honoured to have met you all, for spreading the music of the uilleann pipes, Thank you
3 mates, charging hard down the road to Tipperary. No worries, no fears, a plate of chips, and 4 more beers.
If your body doesnt naturally go into dance mode then youre not human. MM is so fluid and musical. He embodies the instrument and deep Irish culture so beautifully. Bravo!
So together.....so timeless....Thankyou
Im from the states, have a degree in guitar performance, studied jazz, play bop mostly. This is so crazy and i love it. Maybe some day i can sit in with some of this type of playing.
My God, that's life in a tune!!!
The Pipes makes my heart fly!!!
As someone mentioned earlier, this set is Jenny Picking Cockles/Earl's Chair, off McGoldrick's "Morning Rory" album.
11 years later. Thanks stranger. ❤
Rock stars simple as that! Saw Mike in Bannow Church in Co. Wexford touring with Sharon Shannon big fan ever since then.
My amazing cousin xx mike mcgoldrick x
As far as I can tell, Mike McG has got a serious pair of hands on the ends of his arms. I've got two useless apendages that aren't good for much more than excavating my nostrils.
(And Mike can play so many instruments!)
i had the pleasure of playing with mike and another piper john mc sherry at the weekend it was a fantastic experience that I will carry with me for the rest of my life
you got to play with the two of them! bloody hell thats great
Lep same it's amazing init lad
It's lovely, the whole thing! One of my favourite video clips - thank you!
There’s a reason Mark Knopfler covets this guy, Mike is a phenom and a true class act.
tiniest adjustment of the reed. Couldn't hear the need for it till I heard it. That's why we all love Michael.
He makes it look so easy...! ^^ Wish I could play like that :D
Fabulous" always loved Michael playing, he's a true master and the 2 musicians are incredible 👏 well done lads - 10 out of 10 what a sound 👏
Saw McGoldrick and John Doyle and Mccusker in the Delightful setting of the St Georges all in The 'Pool . The musical feast remains in my ears even yet . Mc Goldrick's playing was memorable.
Got a name for this instrumental. "The Dance Of Freedom". !!!
I
Lovely to listen to this morning, thanks for posting :)
DADGAD guitar. I adore Irish music.
*Thats John Joe Kelly on bodhran! Hes class! :)
He's English too.
@DeiseSkelly It's two reels: Jenny Picking Cockles & The Earl's Chair.
makes the heart sing , there's no better instrument in the world :) and he knows how to play it , the other two aren't messing around either !
All three guys on stage are bloody good! Playing together like this, it's just mesmirising!
Brilliant.
I'll bet the drummer could paint a room in minutes. Look at him go!
Hes very good. I saw him live in Feb 2020 in O'Connor's Doolin.
Cheers. I actually own The Morning Rory cd which thesetracts are played!! Glad to say the cd has been out for a good run since.
very very good piper.....and his friends too
I recorded this set of a radio program on a tape (yes a cassette tape, a looong time ago :). I don't remember how these tunes are called. Anyone knows it?
Weltklasse... Ich liebe es
0:46 Those two notes remind me of "Father and Son" by Knopfler. Would've been nice to hear it !
Nice one! Love hearing the Uilleann pipes
First 20 seconds of playing was pure fire
Yes but....
I'd sit all night listening to that Earl's Chair.....
The turn into that tune was magic @ 03.20.
I agree with both of you. Both moments are fantastic
Yeah that bend at 1:43! Wow
You guys are so awesome, super well done!! Maxx
Yes Michael is a beast on the Uilleann pipes, Irish whistle and Irish flute. He is an Englishman by Irish parents, but we won't hold that against him. Uilleann means elbow in Irish BTW. JJ Kelly's bodhran is hard to hear, but that instrument is difficult to record properly especially on amateur gear which I think is the case here. No drones or regulators on this one!
Does anybody have guitar tabs(chords) for this brilliant piece of irish music? :)
And what a play on the guitar by Boyd!! Wow and re-wow!
What a class act!
I think they are by Dave Williams, who has passed away.
The last tune is The Earl's Chair- does that help?
Sweet music....
this is heaven of music.
This is irish music :)
what's the name of the first tune? i would like learning it with my tin whistle! :)
I'd like to listen to some more up-tempo Uilleann pipe music like this. Any tips?
John McSherry, Aaron O’Hagan, Conor Lamb, Jarlath Henderson
Whats the name of this god damn good reel ?????XO XO
Beautiful sound oh men
The earls chair
+Onyx Julian The first one is a version of Jenny's Picking Cockles
Thanks very much appoNo1!! Some comments above say some different tittles, but I'll believe you, haha. Thanks again!!
Look at his left arm. The pipes are attached to the black bag. It inflates with air when he takes his elbow off of it, and deflates when he presses his elbow back onto it. That's where the air comes from.
... God.... I fucking love Irish music!!!!!!!!!!
your not the only one !!!!
Thank you for your honest compliment ,from the heart ( ón croí )
Michael McGoldrick great musician seen him loads of times playing in da band Toss The Feathers in da Palace I’m Levenshulme Manchester back in da early mid nineties 👌👍
I hope I can play uilleann pipes half that well some day. All of them were so skilled, bravo!
That was really good, though am curious what that round drum like instrument is.
the bodhrán
Ciaran Walsh
Ah, thank you.
What is the name of the first tune? I think the second is the earl's chair.
His niece is my teacher in scool
anyone know the guitar chord riff he uses?

Awesome, is that an orb at 4m 27s top of screen coming down?
Can't see anything
Kevin Cawley think it was a bit of fluff or something
Anaybody knows the names of the tunes in this set?? I'd like to know them, they're really good (the tunes and the band, of course, hahaha). Thank you veru much!!
I think the second is the earl's chair? Cant find the first.
出だしがAfro Celt Sound Systemの”Lovers Of Light”にそっくりなんだけど、Afro…がパクッたんだろうか…?すごくよく知られたフレーズなのかも…かっこいいですねー
Wow that man can play
left handed piper !
yeh the priests and teachers would'a forced him right handed not so long ago ( courtesy of T.Tiernan )
Too bad the bodhran is missing :-)!! He gave it his best,,, -- great clip!! thx for uploading
That should be try The Chieftains and Planxty, they're both awesome!
masterful. tapped into the muses.
McGoldrick is a fast player, whether on the Flute or Pipes! Great stuff!
I don't get it where is the air coming from for the instrument.
love it
What a group! Perfectly syncopated.
Our National Anthem should be "Mise Eire", or, "I am Ireland." By Turlough O'Carolan, composed in the late 17thc.,
Agreed I think it's time for the bitterness between Catholics and prodestants
To die out
Name of the tune?
j'adores :)
