As a fellow SE that went college degree route, our roots and beginnings were the same. I'm just a little bit older than you but damn it if myspace, livejournal, and PC gaming didn't expose me to what I didn't know at the time would be my passion and my career lol. I've met a few dozen self-taught and plenty more college grads in the industry, but one of the rare defining qualities among SEs are desire/hunger/passion for learning new tech, tools, frameworks, etc. I found my niche after around the 5 year mark, been highly specialized since but I genuinely miss being the floating resource eager to get his hands on anything and everything. Good stuff!

One of the hardest things is telling your own story. And you've done it flawlessly. I've learned a lot from it. Glad to hear from an industry insider!

22 years here. :) Great video.
Here's what I can say, and pretty much in line with the video:
    - be open to learn.... Don't label yourself as a "Java" or ".Net" developer, any good developer should be able to pick up on a new language/framework (unless it's something really specific..... Like mobile)
    - be humble. No one likes a know it all, who definitely doesn't know it all
    - listen to other's ideas, just because you know a certain way to do something doesn't always mean that's the best way, listen, compare and debate the solution
    - older devs: sorry, dev ops is kind of your job now, you're going to have to learn at least the basics of Kubernetes or others at some point
    - best advice for the wanna-be architects: find a well known/well written framework - react, angular - whatever- even a framework for your tech of choice. clone it, and dissect it. Step through the code and see how things fit together, and why.....
I'm starting a remote meetup for devs to cover Architecture and various full stack topics.. I will also be letting anyone who wants to host it teach the topic of their choice 🤓 .... Post details soon...
    Anyway great video man!

@@LeaveMeAloneBleez Yes you surely can, heres a tip you should start by learning the things you need for a project like if its a web dev project start with html/css/js basics.
ive been learning game dev and working on my indie title for a couple of months which has made me learn so much!
project based learning is the key! :)

You the real Minimum Viable Product for posting these man. I've been feeling lost about where to focus my efforts over the past few years and watching this really helped me decide what I wanted to do. Most of my experience was really just dicking around with C and Perl and now I'm learning Python. Thanks to this video I figured out what I want to learn next (Java, then mobile app dev).

I really regret not taking the opportunity to work in the tech industry as you had at an early age. I'm now 34 years old this year and only started working in the tech industry for a little over 3 years now. If I had started early like you did I would be making that $$$$$.
    Nicely done lad.
