Trains 21 is a documentary of railroading in the 21st century and a look at the fascinating world of transportation. On this channel we deal with all aspects of trains with a strong focus on the Northeast USA.
The goal is for you to learn a lot in a short amount of time.. A major infusion of knowledge in just a few minutes.. And if those few minutes distilled some of the best railroad information in the industry, we feel that we've done our job..
The trick is clarity.. Clear, concise and on point.. New videos are uploaded frequently and if you like what you see, comment, like and subscribe (in that order!).

Always enjoy your videos. I grew up in the Bellevue section of West Side on Railroad Avenue. Many great memories of the Lackawanna right behind my house.

I posted a rather critical comment on one of your other videos earlier, but I like this one much better.

    A. C., why was the StL&H unpopular? I remember seeing engines with that paint scheme on the ex D&H going through Sidney NY.

I think that the fans were ambivalent about the StL&H, but the company was at first trying to make it a "Internal Shortline" with different work rules that would result in less pay for Employees. Then they threatened to spin it off into a regional. These were the same people who sold off the "Corn Lines" in the Midwest to IMRL. Finally with a change at the top of CP, the new management realized that downsizing was not the way to more profits. Yes some judicious pruning was necessary, but not wholesale sales of lines to regionals who might fall into competitors hands.
