It's nice to see you are making videos again. I think it would be hard to do a watch youtube channel unless you are rich and can afford many great watches or have a source or sources to borrow them to make videos. I almost bought a grand seiko several years ago when they were not known very well yet. I could not get a good fit. No micro adjustments and the half links were not small enough. Anyway, I enjoy hearing your honest opinion on watches and new releases you talk about. I remember your video on fake Rolex vs genuine and I think it was the Hulk. That was the first video I have seen here. No idea how long ago that was.
Yeah that was ages ago. I took that video down because CZcams was kicking people off the platform for having videos with fake Rolex watches in them. Shame, that video got lots of views. But I'm really glad you're still here, thank you!
@@JustBlueFish That stinks, that was to educate people not to buy fake watches. A lot of money for a watch that looks good on the outside but is cheap Chinese junk on the inside and will probably fall apart.
I have the grand seiko SBGA427 39mm spring drive model. The bracelet and clasp are comfortable and feel well made; maybe the titanium models have a lesser quality bracelet/clasp? Their rationale for not offering a micro adjustment clasp is that it would make the clasp not as svelte and comfortable. However, I would take micro adjustments even if it made the clasp bulkier
So, I was hot and heavy with watch enthusiasm for a few years, at least in terms of endlessly "learning about watches" (aka window shopping). Ended up with a small collection, mostly watches under $500, all under $1K. Now, I'm basically stuck. I don't want to acquire more pieces, since I'm only wearing 2-3 (one being a G-Shock) out of 5-6 regularly. I could sell my entire collection and have far too little to purchase even an "entry level" luxury watch (BB58, etc.) and I don't have any selling history on EB&y, etc., so doing so would be a huge pain. I've been stuck like this for a couple years at this point. I imagine my predicament is far from unique. Thoughts? Suggestions?
Hello Guy., I've been following your channel for a couple of years now and I like your content and style, you are objective, imparcial and with a positive view, (I have unsuscribed to channels that always begin whit "why do people hate...") ., hope to see you more often. Greetings from MX
I reset my mechanicals down to the second every other day. So as long as a movement is within spec, I am good. Accuracy nuts need to buy a quartz or smart watch and hush.
@@JustBlueFish I stated every other day. And you clearly missed the point : ) You've been in the hobby for five (5) years. I've been collecting watches since 2008. 10 more years of experience compared to you, potato head.
Nice to have you back I have my own question if you don't mind... I recently started saving for an Explorer 1, 36mm.. the new 124270.... it'll take 2-3, years I've had a 1861 Speedy (twice), an IWC Mark 16, and an Omega Aqua Terra black dial (automatic first generation from 2003)... Sold them all as i still can't find that one "do it all" watch. I have my 5600e G shock and Casio W-86 as my two main watches, as well as a little old 1960s Enicar dress watch which is lovely but old and tired So... would you just enjoy things like Hamiltons, etc (I've owned two and sold both)... instead of saving for years for a watch that is maybe just a watch?
I have to agree with you about mechanical watch accuracy. For me, it's such a huge bonus and goal to own watches, particularly mechanical ones, that can maintain the highest accuracy possible. One, it makes me feel the watch is made to a higher standard, although not necessarily having to cost a higher level. I have had plenty of watches that can maintain high accuracy while not costing that money much $$. That in itself makes the $$ I've spent on a watch that is damn accurate worthy. Two, I also find the most accurate watches I own I really want to continue wearing for longer periods. I get kind of high to see just how long of a stretch on continued wearing before I feel the watch has deviated enough and I need to reset and resynchronize the watch. My usual standard limit for total time deviation is no more than +or- 20 to 30 seconds. So, no, I don't believe that if I care so much about watch accuracy I should just get a quartz watch. I care enough about watch accuracy that I expect and hold a certain high standard in this regard for all my watches, both mechanical and quartz. It's not just about buying a pretty thing to wrap around my wrist. A watch should perform it's basic task(s) to the best it can, period. However, I'm not going to say those who disagree with me (us) are missing the point.. they can hold and apply whatever watch ethos they want to for themselves. This is part of what I enjoy and seek in my watch collection journey for myself.
When I say "they don't get it" I don't mean the don't get why accuracy is important. I mean, they don't get why I care. I get why they don't care - but there's a perfectly valid reason to care as well, but they like to just say "buy a quartz"... it's dumb.
Two big takeaways from this one. Buy the watch that you want, I could not agree more regardless of the brand on the dial. Second is that there is always room for another G-Shock, again I cannot agree more. This is your channel Guy and you should upload and talk about stuff that you want to, yes there will be some that don't like it but also many that do. There will always be some who have an opinion who may take comments out of context. Personally I think you should carry on doing what you are doing, evolving the channel in ways that you want, it can always change if you want it to. A weekly 'rant' is an interesting one but I think that cadence might be a tad to frequent, maybe a monthly moan may be worth considering. Anyway I love the channel and thanks for sharing.
"Y'all know me, know how I make a livin'. I'll review this watch for ya but it ain't gonna be easy. Expensive watch. It ain't like wearin' Casio or Timex. I don't want no volunteers I don't want no experts there's too many watch channels on this platform. 20 minutes of your time and for that you get the lugs, the case, the whole damn thing."
Guy - keep up the good work. “Always room for one more GShock!” Hilarious and sadly true! I’d prefer the multiband-6 vs Bluetooth since I can’t have Bluetooth in my work area. I got my first negative display GShock and wow-you can’t read the time!! Egads.
Best thing to take away is, get the watches YOU like. Who cares what others think. And if you realize you don’t like it anymore, sell it and use that money for another watch. (I need to learn to let go and sell a few) ((just not any of my G-Shocks))
My daily watch should be fairly accurate so I can just adjust it once a week and then just wear it. For a watch I wear occasionally (like a dress watch) I don't mind as much because I have to set it every time I wear it anyway.
I think the new 36mm Explorer is the best Explorer ever made. Selling my older 36mm as we speak...20mm vs 19mm doesn't even come into it when on the wrist
