- One of my guilty pleasures from days long gone. Wild Cherry with the often covered hit, Play That Funky Music. The outfits are freakin priceless. Bell Bottoms and chest hair, pure 70`s
- Hudba
my phone once played during the prayer at church. my daughter will not let forget it.
This song never fails to make me smile! 😁
Killer solo! I love it. Obviously knows his way around a Les Paul.
I saw them live at Studio 54 back in the 1920's. The whole band signed my pimp cane. They told me I was the funkiest white boy they'd ever seen. I will never forget that night, and I will never wash my pimp cane again.
That groove is way more than a guilty pleasure!
LIVE....Music and PURE Power!!!! 😆 Peace, Love, Happiness, and Rhythm. ...Thank-you!
I was 11 when I saw this performance on MIDNIGHT SPECIAL (which I watched religiously in the years before MTV, launched in August of 1981), and I remember this particular performance as if it were yesterday.
Still jamming in 2020! The world needs this music more than ever....
Love this song, always have! Such a fun song to dance to! 💃 ❤
Rob P. is an excellent singer, guitar player, and front man had the pleasure a few years back of him sitting in with my group at a special event. He is also a class A person to meet. Wild Cherry Rocks!
I am a metal head with two left feet and I am dancing to this ,what ?
La Rasa
With a GROOVE like that, how can you go wrong?

Your right the voice doesn't fit the face at all!! LOL I remember when it came out, my sisters and I drove my Mom crazy but after about the 5th time of playing it (yes a 45) she was tappin her toe and when we heard it on the radio in the car she did the head bop with us! Great song lots of fun memories come with it!!
They were at Eastern KY University around that time and they blew the roof of the house. They were bad ass then and the song along with the video is bad ass now. They were also some good lookin young men.
Holy shit they were amazing musicians! They can play the hell out of those instruments!
Oh my fuckin god, this is soooooo goood!

I remember this song back when it was new, and it's even more fun to hear it again today. I always crank it in the car when Sirius 70s plays it. Good times!

Seymour Highway Electric Company in 1977, Wichita Falls, Tx. Wild Cherry was there as was my future husband and I. They sounded great and I will never forget that night. Oh, to be young, carefree, and party til you puke once again. Thanks for the memories Wild Cherry.

I was lucky enough to be a teenager when this was around. Awesome. Sadly it means I'm 60 now but it's still awesome!!!!
Me too, Ray. Me too. But when I play our songs like this, I'm 15 again wearing my "Bells" and doing the Bump with my friends! Oh, to live through that era again!

If my memory is still good this band and song was born at Club 51 in McKees Rocks Pa. I lived in The Bottoms, in The Rocks for a while. Still sounds good

When bands played live on TV.
Very hard to beet Wild Cherry
Biggest mystery: where are the rest of their hits? They're absolutely amazing, but this is it.
Not sure….I remember buying only the 45.
Ill tell you. He is a drunken asshole. Managers hated him, clubs, and he is always missing notes you can hear it or watch him look over like “shit”
Always loved the name of this band. Holy Moly, these guys really knew how to get down!! What a ball tearer of a performance, absolutely fantastic.

This white guy has got soul, man. Very cool dudes, know how to get down.
I heard it's about KC and the Sunshine Band. I love this song.

When I first heard them on radio in 76 I thought the song was by Wild Jerry.
AWESOME FUNK MAGIC, nothing is original these days even Funk Up Town seems borrow some of their track. Is there a way to get Midnight Special full shows in a collection of DVD's maybe for all that great music?..
Yeah thanks, I was trying to think where get that beat?? Bruno Mars uptown funk.

He's an entertainment/intellectual property lawyer in Cleveland now - Mark Avsec.
And Rocked the Ohio Valley. They showed up in Wheeling on occasion, even after their bit of success. Most of us kinda knew the origins were from across the Ohio River, but we still claimed they were from Wheeling.
BAd ASS!!!
Enjoy it as I do it!
Nice hair cut
How many times do you the guy on the far left has dropped his trumpet on stage?
Compared to today's music, especially hip hop stuff, you can understand the lyrics. And they don't have to swear and tell you to kill yo mamma :)
Honestly, I don't know *what* to think about this (:>/
i think the same .
Steubenville, Ohio's finest...
welcome :)
That bassplayer looks like me if I was 25.
I think that's Donnie Iris, who had a hit on his own with "Ah, Leah". Not sure, though, because he joined soon after this particular song was released, according to an online source.
+Classic Rock Kid ---- the bassist is Allen Wentz ..... a fabulous musician.
