Why Are Tech Icons Getting Simpler?

- There has been an ongoing trend in the tech world of icons/logos constantly getting more and more simple. But why? Does it need to be this way? Watch the video to find out!

The original complexity of icons was to give everything a more familiar feel when consumer computers were newer. IOS 7 is where the trend of simplicity can be traced back to. Where Apple leads, other companies tend to follow. The reason Apple went that way in the first place is because simple feels fresh, modern, and trustworthy. It's easier to use, and easier to design for from a modern software standpoint, and then the icons of course have to reflect the software.
We've seen logos go back and forth between complexity and simplicity all throughout history though. It just so happens that nowadays the tech industry leads where others follow.
I appreciate the insight. That makes a lot of sense. I remember iOS 7 coming out, when I was still in grade school. It did seem at the time to be totally revolutionary in terms of how icons looked. I forgot to mention iOS 7 in my video. However, I totally hadn’t thought of the thing where icons were more complex to be familiar to users, and that’s really interesting.

Not only in the tech world. Everywhere logos are getting more simplified. They removed the hair from the pringles logo :(
Yes definitely, I agree. But this channel relates to tech, so that’s why I am addressing the change as it relates to tech.
