Feels like something right out of Black Mirror. Can't wait for that episode.

Not feeling the “Disney” touch in this presentation.

I love the design, amenities and the neighborhood feel of the entire development; however I am seriously concerned about the extensive water elements in the middle of a bone dry desert. Where will the water come from? How much of the water will be lost to evaporation during the months of 100 plus degree temperatures? I’d much prefer Cotino if the “lake” were eliminated. The pools should serve the purpose without so seriously impacting the water supply and environment.
Please also let us know about the green and sustainable aspects of the project and each home. Will solar power be built in and designed to adapt to new technologies?
Cotino has the potential to be a truly unique exciting option for a 21st Century desert living community, so please build in and keep us informed as to how it will best minimize environmental impacts.

There is a massive underground water aquifer under the Coachella Valley that provides water to the valley - that's why there are so many golf courses in the area. I don't think this would be approved by the water authority/local government if it would decimate the aquifer but $ talks also.

CA requires all new homes to have solar so yes on that. I don't know enough about the aquifer to say if Cotino will have a meaningful impact or not. Obviously it will draw down some of the water. I believe the reason there are so many golf courses in the area as the water dept believe the aquifer is not in danger of running dry. I do think in general cities and water depts are nowadays a bit more sensitive to taking too much water - let's hope they make sure that's the case here as well.

good point about the water. Coachella Valley and SoCal in general need to cut back their addiction to decorative water usage!

Where is the water coming from? Don't they realize it's in a desert with water shortage issues?

Awesome! It's wonderful to see the computer-generated rendering. This oasis is going to be one-of-a-kind. I'm really looking forward to spending my winter months here with the family and meeting the wonderful residents of the community!

So freekin hot during the summer that you have no choice but to stay inside during the day for months at a time. How anybody lives there is a mystery to me.

I'm surprised at how un- Disney this looks. Kind of looks like any other bland and basic spot you'd find out in the desert for businessman or retirees. Missed opportunity.

It will be amazing, however, so glad we sold our home right nextdoor, the noise will be crazy, the traffic on Bob Hope & Frank Sinatra will be insane and the once quiet Rancho Mirage will be gone.

They shoulda just passed out fliers to the handful of rich people who could afford it instead of announcing it nationally. Like anyone can afford it. But ya know…we just NEED to know these homes we can never afford exist.
Might as well turn it into a senior citizen community.
Oh well. The entire place looks more like an episode of black mirror than anything Disney.

Unless you have 2mil+ for a tiny home, does it matter?
They look like basic homes built from 70’s/80’s architecture designs. Boring. More black mirrorish…less Disney.

It is concerning a little that I have seen nothing happening. Of course I don't visit on a regular basis. My husband and I want to retire to Palm Springs in a few years and this looks like it has our name on it in theory, but no house renderings makes me a little nervous.

  • @mystrie4663

This just looks like an poor choice on Disney's part given the environmental issues. Adding an artificial water oasis in a desert makes no sense. Building homes in a drought stricken location only increases the issues we're facing in the state. The community is sitting in an area with increasingly high temperatures so evaporation is going to claim even more water from the oasis (which needs to be replenished), not to mention the daily water usage of the residents. Sure, it's pretty and it seems like a great place, but at what cost (and I don't mean the price of the homes).

agreed, but it is in Rancho Mirage across the street from the Annenberg Estate = Sunnylands, as well as a gated community called Versailles and numerous country clubs, so Disney is not designing this for working class admission -- kinda like the price of admission to Disneyland :)
