I had a premonition about this discussion and it's awesome to see it play out with the same talking points. The Vedic gods are smiling upon both of you.
I found the most interesting part of my deity work (as a first generation western born Indian) the teachings I have received align with Tantric Buddhism rather than the Vedas directly but the important context is that we are in the Kali Yuga entering a new "Age". So with that in mind, the focus is on the ego/man, validated through the divine feminine.
As much as people would like to call Buddhism a separate religion, my patron deity is pretty adamant that it's one of Vishnu's Tantras/Methods in how to go about life seeking release through internal mastery.
Therefore from the perspective of a practitioner, it's very nice to have such a true unbiased scholarly look at my heritage.
I honestly thought that maybe I'd just have to deal with our sacred songs being stolen, appropriated and propagated like what happened to Yoga.
I should add that I only found terms like esoteric when looking up content in English that describe what I've learned from sacred practice.
I wouldn't use the same verbiage exactly but my goal isn't to stand out, it's to relate and unite so we can build a better future together

Ingesting menstruation blood is one of the left hand tantric practices which is a taboo also in the West. The women's eggs contain a huge amount of concentrated prana, easily absorbed by the body when ingested orally (sometimes mixed with red wine). According to a Polish scientist, the menstruation blood functions as rocket motor fuel for the Kundalini (the practitioners may also end up in a "vampire high" which may last for days, weeks or monts. A reason for keeping this practice secret: How do you come down without an yogi capable of bringing you down, if you need to?). The practice was adopted by Crowley, and this ancient tradition is also mentioned in The Book of the Law (Crowley studied in the East previous to the transmission of Liber Al). Dan Winter claims the tradition also can be traced back to Mesopotamia, where the Dragon Queens fed their children milk mixed with menstruation blood in order to increase the spiritual potential of the child (he doesn't list what sources he has this information from, so take this information with a pinch of salt). There are also Satanists who celebrates the feminine divine in nature by drinking menstruation blood. My point is that this practice probably is more energetic motivated than transgressive. I'm not sure if this tradition has a place in conventional Freemasonry, but I do know they celebrate the feminine divine. In Eastern Tantric traditions the woman becomes the one who gives birth to the spiritual man by giving him this gift, by lighting up his fire, so that he can ascend up to the heaven (paraphrasing Dr. Joanna Kujawa. Hi A , i really love what ackedemics like you are doing to spread knowledge.
But i really wish people like you (westerners) stop calling Aghori, Tantra.
Aghori is a left-hand path of life in general and thus all religions.
You guys are giving normal, uneducated westerners the impression that Aghori is Tantra, Without the understanding that Tantra is so much more.
What you guys are doing is like claiming that Christianity is what you see in the deep south of the USA in black holiness churches.
