- M3 MAAWS: The M3 Multi-role Anti-armor Anti-tank Weapon System (MAAWS) is the U.S. military designation for the Carl Gustaf M3 recoilless rifle. It is primarily used by USSOCOM special operations forces (SOFs), such as the Army Rangers, Army Special Forces, Marine Raiders, Navy SEALs, JSOC operators, and other forces. When used by the U.S. Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, the M3 is known as the Ranger Anti-tank Weapons System (RAWS).
HE441 round: useful in a "lobbed" trajectory to 1,000m, which can be fused to either detonate on impact or as an airburst.

I was in the British army in Germany 1979 I loved this weapon it was heavy but it was cool to fire I fired loads of training rounds and one live round and what a treat that was

I was in the British army in the mid/late 80’s and was often either No1 or 2 on the ‘84. It was universally hated to have to carry this thing, stupidly heavy and we all agreed that whoever carried that thing would be the first taken out by any defending force, you’d stand out a mile as you’d be so far behind everyone else because of the extra 45 pound plus you were carrying more than anyone else. Iv heard the latest 84’s are many pounds lighter than the original with a wide variety of ammo types which is a very good thing but in my day it was a horrible, hated piece of kit to be allocated.
@@smudgejock you were carrying a 36lb iron girder, plus 3 rounds of ammo. atop that you still had to carry your personal weapon plus ammo for that, even a mule would lose its sense of humour.
What colour was the boat house at Hereford?
We’re you an infantryman?
As a Swede, I take great pride in this weapon system. So much fun in one weapon!
English maybe?

@@TNPK_ hahha lmao. Nice man 👍
Шведы пидарасы.
I especially appreciate the realism of it being mostly dry firing and weapons maintenance.
This is a great weapon system, still effective today.
absolutely. They recently made a new version of it as well i think in 2014 and im pretty sure its still manufactured by Saab. I had some friends in special forces and they said they all love the Gustav and its extremely effective since its not single use like some other shoulder fired weapons in that class. I would love to be able to fire one of these one day but im almost positive that will never happen haha
Lol, Karl Gustov just done care. One of the best man-portable weapon systems ever fielded,
I have not had the opportunity to fire this weapon but it sure brought back memories of when I would fail people on the M72 LAW for not ensuring the back blast area was clear.
Love how after firing initially there’s this ringing like the sound gave the CAMERA tinnitus.
02:02 the cows: "They gonna fire. Run, run!"
That is one bad ass recordless weapon
I love the weapons and the sound of the shots makes a beautiful feel affect. Thank you for this effort
lugging it around is leaves not much to love, a 36lb iron girder.
Every family home should have one of this.
Fantastic shot!

Not a rocket launcher
You would think after the creation of the proximity fuse, dials would be a part of ancient history.
I think the dial is the safety. Like it doesn’t arm the explosive until the distance set. He didn’t set the recoiless shell to 500 anyway he set it to 400
Manual fuzes are still pretty important today. In vehicles, they are used in autocannons/regular cannons to kill infantry in trenches by timing the fuze so that the shells would explode just above their heads.
Airburst munitions are usually more effective than impact fuzed ones, due to the wider area that shrapnel can cover.
Named after Royalty, the CG is still the King of reloadable RPG’s
The US Army and Marine Corps use the Karl Gustav advanced infantry recoiless rifle system. I was stationed in the U.K. for three years working with British Army veterans who used the Karl Gustav recoilless rifle system too. I was an intelligence analyst for 20 rears but had lots of tactical field time and served in Desert Storm with the 1st ID. Swedish engineers make excellent, efficient, durable and reliable weapons. Look at Swedish fighter planes like the Grippen, the influential S- tank of the Swedish air independent coastal submarines so quiet the US Navy has a difficult time tracking them with sonar. Sweden is a good addition to NATO.

Lot of talk! 3.5 rocket, a-gunner loads while checking backblast area, yells gun up while tapping gunner on the helmet, boom
In the 80s Canadian army they told us about the other rounds but all we got were HEAT. I got to fire a few though.
Im impressed those cows not even flinch.
What a shockwave
Like many ex British soldiers from back in the 80's, I fired an earlier version of this weapon, Christ it was one of the most uncomfortable weapons you would have to use, everyone hated the bloody thing.
@draco What's the reason? The noise and the shudder went right through you, it was a good idea to fire it with your mouth open.....otherwise you felt your teath rattle lol..
You still want one when ivan comes knocking.
@kurtsoderberg Well yes Kurt, it was better than nothing.....can't believe it was 3 years ago when I posted that lol...👍

when we fired this weapon we were always told to open your mouth as when the weapon fires the round is going forward the back blast to the rear and this causes a vacuum and seen on the range quite a few times taped claret "burst noses" lmao great gun though

"Backblast area is clear!" is too messy, they need a better command term. In Swedish it was "Klart bakat!" which takes a third of the time and is not prone to mumbling and misunderstanding.
@@merlinthegray Had long conversation with American miitary. These things are highly regulated. Personally, in English, I would prefer just "Clear" or something like that. Still, gotta remember, its mostly for training and civilian use. Bet they make their own routines in wartime area. Especially if USA ever fight a third real war.
