I am very glad that you were willing to put in time and learned how to complete a transfer board transfer for your relative. However, for anyone else who watches this video I would like to point out that there are definitely some things you would not want to replicate in this video, for the safety of your loved one.
    VERY IMPORTANT:
    1. When you are placing the board underneath their bottom, lean them forward and away from where the board is being placed under, to prevent shearing/breakdown of skin.
    2. Place the transfer board at a better angle on the bed so it’s not so straight line from where they are currently seated (it will help with shifting)
    3. When helping them, DO NOT just pull on the gait belt, that is going to hurt their ribs so much
    4. Make sure that their feet are on the floor and pushed back underneath them, so when they try to push themselves sideways they can push through their legs as well
    5. As the caregiver, bend your knees and get close to them. Have them lean towards you and place their head over your shoulder (over the shoulder away from the bed so you can still see the bed)
    6. Your hands will then go under each side of their ‘butt bones’ as you help them lean forward which will help them put pressure through their legs as well
    7. Their hands will be on the board trying to help push through their able arm, but DO NOT have them put their hand in that hole, that hole is not there for functionality, and is actually a danger.
    8. When you get them to the bed, help hold them in a seated positioned on the edge of the bed (they may need assistance in balance) then take the board out from under them as they lean towards you
    9. Then you can help lie them down once the board is out from under them
And again , this is not to bash on the lovely woman in this video. And if it weren’t for schooling and experience I would be doing the same thing. However, with the gift of knowledge I felt obligated to share how to safely and most comfortably help your loved one transfer (as this will also help be better to your body as the provider as well).
Also, as a benefit to the caregiver overtime. The technique described is not supposed to hurt your back, if it does, make sure you are bending your hips and keeping your back straight, good body mechanics are very important for longevity, avoid lifting and pulling from your back whenever you can. Bending your knees and hips will take the load off your back.

I really appreciate you sharing this video, and the courage of your dad to participate. You provided great dignity to your father in the filming of this, while also helping me with strategies to help my own mother, who is recovering from hip surgery. I hope your dad is recovering. Warm thoughts and prayers.

As a PT student please please please do not have the patient grab the handle or edge of the transfer board. When they shift their weight onto the transfer board it can cause them to smash their fingers. Also a few tips to help the transfer; have the patient scoot forward to the edge of the chair to unweight his bottom and angle the wheelchair towards the bed slightly so that the slide can be performed easier without shear. I'm sorry this happened to your father, great family support is necessary for recovery and he definitely has that.

Yeah, do not grab the handle, also make sure the bed is lower to make the sliding easier from the chair.
