The 508 resembles a cereal bowl in a humorous way but In actuality, they are some regular tornado warning sirens. The reason that being said is because when you see a bunch of 508s in w.s.s, you are likely in for a huge surprise
That Whelen you are questioning at 12:53 is a 2900 series, look at the support beams on the outside of the cells, they a smooth round shape, and they are also painted black, at the begging of the video you point out a 2700 series siren, the support beams on that are grey and have an interesting design
Look for a fin. If it has one, you've got a Vortex. No fin, then you look at the rotator. The Vortex will have a square looking box sticking out of the side of them where as the WPS series has a cylinder looking motor sticking out. The oldest 4004s have a similar look to the 4008 but half the size. Similar sides and sports an X on the screen.
Yes. They can ship it to your place which would be harder cause they are gonna need to know where your located and it will cost extra especially for the shipping.
10:50 That was probably most likely a control unit used for Whelen's SIPS 400/800 warning sirens. Illustrations used in their manual resemble quite a bit compared to in-video.
If I can remember I saw on google maps one of the whelen vortexes had to be the one that used to be at lions park on dexter Ann Arbor road until it got replaced with a 2001 130 in early 2009
It is. It appears to be the ESC-864 controller at least the looks of it. The bottom part which is the battery council is shaped slightly different but ether way, yes it is a Whelen.
That Whelen "box" at 4:20 is a type two siren cabinet, it has the siren data board in the top part and two batteries in the bottom, a type three is similar in design but can hold four batteries, therefore I personally like the type three cabinet
Also I wonder if that modulator was from Moore OK? I sure looks like it was destroyed by a tornado and Moore sure had a butt load of modulators when the tornado hit.
I bet some of Marion County, IN's old sirens are there! Let me know if you see any from there. We used to have Thunderbolt 1000T/1003s, Model 5s, a Model 2, 3 or 4 SD-10s, and several Older 2001s. Our system now consists of all 2001s. We test on the 1st Friday at 11:00 for 50 seconds. Feel free to come down any time you want 😄
The crew don't mind if there is someone alone in the yard but they need to know if there is someone out in the yard. If you plan on going, you can call them to let them know and when you get there, you can check in at the main office to let them know and they'll let you do what you want.
+RailYardWarrior Can you just show up there, or do you have to schedule an appointment? I'm thinking about going there over the summer. And, on average, how much does it cost to buy a siren?
+lizziepickle3000 you have to call the president, jeff. Email him first, and you'll schedule a phone call. You can then schedule a time and siren, and he'll have it ready by the time you get there. He's a very nice guy- very friendly, very patient. his siren yard it emptying, though. you better hurry up
@Hmmm Hmmm The WPS-2900 series has voice capability. Omni-Alert does not and they only have 1 cell, 2 cells, 3 cells, and 4 cells available. Omni-Alert only goes as much as 4 driver cells and they use a Type 1 controller while the WPS-2900s 1 to 5 use a Type 2 controller and 6 to 10 use a Type 3 controller. I'm not sure if there is a exterior physical difference of the siren head itself cause they both look the same. The Firehouse siren (Going by the website) says they have FAUXIN Limited function auxiliary board for contact closure Activation. I have no clue what any of that means but both the Omni-Alert and Firehouse Sirens use the Type 1 controller and both go up as much as 4 driver cells.
Just wondering, is WSS scrapping the entire yard for real? SPC Rutherford told me he called WSS and that he was told that they're scrapping the entire yard of sirens
10:51 This Whelen controller is not really that special. As you can see by the 2 fuses on the left, it was most likely for WPS-2801-2901, but not sure. Maybe 2802-2902.
+Sirens & Aviation Yeah actually back then, I couldn't tell the difference by the exterior looks. I learned how to tell the difference of models by looking at the cell supporters.
Giovanny Plascencia I go by the mesh screen that covers the cells. airraidsirens.com/wiki/images/d/d6/WPS_2805_Official.jpeg airraidsirens.com/wiki/images/b/b3/WPS2905_Official.jpeg

a little kid in me is screaming I want thunderbolts give me thunderbolts!!
Joshua Eckberg same here
I want a whelen or a modulator! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Same.
Or a 3T22
And the eows 612
13:35 that stl-10 is mine now. Its interesting to see what it was like before I started restoring it.
The 508 resembles a cereal bowl in a humorous way but In actuality, they are some regular tornado warning sirens. The reason that being said is because when you see a bunch of 508s in w.s.s, you are likely in for a huge surprise
8:04 that blower is so rusty it turned orange lol
XD XD XD 🤣🤣
That’s rude
i wish I lived here!!! I want to go here so bad!
You're local siren graveyard is probably just as good 😄

@Kovuuu It is more than metal it has history in it also saving lives.
The little kid in me is screaming "I want Whelen... give me Whelen!"

I loved the 612 siren😊🎉
That Whelen you are questioning at 12:53 is a 2900 series, look at the support beams on the outside of the cells, they a smooth round shape, and they are also painted black, at the begging of the video you point out a 2700 series siren, the support beams on that are grey and have an interesting design
How do you distinguish the Whelen Vortex from the rotating WPS sirens?
Look for a fin. If it has one, you've got a Vortex. No fin, then you look at the rotator. The Vortex will have a square looking box sticking out of the side of them where as the WPS series has a cylinder looking motor sticking out. The oldest 4004s have a similar look to the 4008 but half the size. Similar sides and sports an X on the screen.
It looks cool seeing an army of 2001-130s waiting to be shipped
Yes. They can ship it to your place which would be harder cause they are gonna need to know where your located and it will cost extra especially for the shipping.
I want that Whelen vortex is there any way you can buy old sirens from them
The siren at 12:50 is a 2900. 2700s have silver supports on the sides and 2900s are black.
That esc-864 box you found is rare because they only made the esc-864s for a limited time
Austin Austin esc 864s are in all 3016s and some older 4004s
10:50 That was probably most likely a control unit used for Whelen's SIPS 400/800 warning sirens. Illustrations used in their manual resemble quite a bit compared to in-video.
What would estimation price be for a Banshee or Penetrator with a panel or a Sterling?
all these sirens are the same as I remember when I went to west shore services
It would be nice if you could find one of the harper woods thunderbolts, I already know el1998p71 has the b series but yeah
10:52 that i believe is a controller off of a 2802, it only has 2 amp signal lights, and also since there is no fuses, its a digital 864 panel
I never thought of that. Of course back then, I didn't have any knowlage of Analogs and Digitals.
@@Siren1000T1 oh ok, you learn something new everyday (not just you, everybody learns something new everyday :)]
Update: Thats an IPS-400 controller
If I can remember I saw on google maps one of the whelen vortexes had to be the one that used to be at lions park on dexter Ann Arbor road until it got replaced with a 2001 130 in early 2009
Does anyone know if the yard is open to the public
It is. It appears to be the ESC-864 controller at least the looks of it. The bottom part which is the battery council is shaped slightly different but ether way, yes it is a Whelen.
10:29 that is an analog ESC-864. at the bottom it says (C) 1988. The digital ones didn't come out until 1994.
Was there any model 5 or 7 there in goodish condition
Do they ship to central Indiana? Do they even ship out old sirens? (such as a t-bolt)
ho much would a thunderbolt with a blower cost at west shore services
those 2001:DCs appear to be too new to have been put into service, plus they are still mounted to the pallet, so quite likely never used
those are my favorite sirens there, i'd love a 2001-SRNDC
Do they have any XT22s?
All of tulsa, oklahomas 4004s and 3016s have the esc-864 controllers.
That Whelen "box" at 4:20 is a type two siren cabinet, it has the siren data board in the top part and two batteries in the bottom, a type three is similar in design but can hold four batteries, therefore I personally like the type three cabinet

Thus Moore mod
Ahh that part when you said hi to the 2001!So cute like he is alive!
Agree so cute.
Is there any red allertors from mn there?
How much would a controller go for
How much would it cost to buy a thunderbolt.
I bet some of Marion County, IN's old sirens are there! Let me know if you see any from there. We used to have Thunderbolt 1000T/1003s, Model 5s, a Model 2, 3 or 4 SD-10s, and several Older 2001s. Where have you seen an SD-10 or Model 5 or 2's around Indy before? I know Speedway only had a Tbolt
+NaptownFireman20188 does this answer your question? www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zOCrmm7Si0Zw.kVkeAgcTWeA0&hl=en_US
The Thunderbolt section is a gold mine to me. Must resist going CRAZY MAW HA HA!!!
11:17 That thunderbolt looks to be in such good shape. I could get one but I sadly live a little to far away from Michigan.
On the outside it could look nice but on the inside it could be crap
nice to see it just dumped outside to let the vegetation grow around it and never to be removed!
also, was the service drive thunderbolt there before it was put back in service?
It's not in service. I saw the same one when I went back in December.
at the thunderbolt blower scene when he turns the camera and zooms into the woods it looks like bananas
At 10:20, that siren cabinet is a type three siren cabinet, that's the one I prefer
That whelen was a 2900 series. The 2700 series has the white sides.
I do have a EOWS 612 siren in my backyard I kept it for 6 years and it stopped working and broke now it's in that junkyard that a saw on this video
The WPS-29XXs have a system where one can pull the speaker out the side of the array. Look for the handle.
Very interesting! Feels like siren heaven here
You can imagine it like they’re in heaven and when they are purchased they reincarnate and when they get scrapped they go to hell
The crew don't mind if there is someone alone in the yard but they need to know if there is someone out in the yard. If you plan on going, you can call them to let them know and when you get there, you can check in at the main office to let them know and they'll let you do what you want.
I hope there are A1 blowers and 4/5 port thunderbolts.
And B series
2:40 Dan, I love your sense of humor!
Do you hear a siren ambience guys?
I just went there yesterday and got me a siren , too!
What siren was it?
When I went there in 2018 they were installing a 2001 siren
I would have bought a thunderbolt if I could but Im sure most of them were either scraped or restored
I went to west shore services today
Can I get a siren without having to go there?
I did not know they still have 508 in 2013
I thought it looked more newer then a 2700 head. I just couldn't tell the difference since they looked identical. Thanks for pointing that out. :)
@Hmmm Hmmm The WPS-2900 series has voice capability. Omni-Alert does not and they only have 1 cell, 2 cells, 3 cells, and 4 cells available. at 7:26 what model of whelen was that? I'm dying to know
+DaGhostlyGengarGamer Looks like one cell from a Whelen 2800 series.
+Siren1000T I actually found the model earlier, however I cannot find any videos
+Siren1000T i think the modulator is beat up by a tornado
+Siren1000T 2801
What would be the average price for a 3016 or a 2016?
For what reason do you want to buy me?
Can I have a thunderbolt ? :)Are they worth anything?
12:40 wheeler 2905, 2900 have the small screens and the 2800 have the big screens
I'm interested to buy one how much are they
Just wondering, is WSS scrapping the entire yard for real? SPC Rutherford told me he called WSS and that he was told that they're scrapping the entire yard of sirens
Creeperboy He was yanking your chain I emailed the president directly and he stated it was just a rumor and they aren't scraping their siren yard.

@ 12:58 what's the difference?
Wish I can get my hands on a thunderbolt or restore them old ones
Y’all should give the sirens to areas that don’t have sirens like Massachusetts
I'm heading back this summer to get a better vid.
I hope you checked for ticks after that.
This is depressing...
Sidenote, I want that sterling siren...
All siren is dead
Gamingwithvanessa No, some sirens at WSS still work fine.
Javier Gonzalez Some are even ready to be shipped out from being brand new/repaired
Do you know if this place is open to the public or do you have to call ahead?
You have to call to schedulle a tour and call and ask if you want buy a siren.
I think that finback Vortex came from Jefferson Elementary in Coldwater!
Wait....Coldwater got rid of there finbacks?
The one on the south side might still be standing, but may get replaced.
Isn't that the one with a busted driver?
Yes
Ok. I wish there were more finabaks
4:30 By the way I think that's a Whelen control box.
at 8:20 is that a aca hurricane 130 with a square horn of a tbolt
No. WSS doesn't have any Hurricanes. That was a T-bolt.
Do u work there
8-16 port is sterling m10
Your lucky, I live In Eden Prairie MN
They should ship that old 2001 out with the new ones, just hook up new boxes and it is perfectly good.
Ik this video is almost three years old, but the Whelen at 12:50 was a 2900 if you didn't know yet.
+Sirens & Aviation Yeah actually back then, I couldn't tell the difference by the exterior looks. I learned how to tell the difference of models by looking at the cell supporters.
+Siren1000T So, how do you tell the difference between 2800's and 2900's?

Siren1000T Ok, now I know the difference. Thanks Dan.
Anyways, I told my mom that I wanted to record a siren, and she said, MAYBE, I hope I can go.
I noticed you occasionally remarking on the screens each siren possessed. Is their purpose to prevent birds and insects from nesting inside the siren?
The screens are to prevent birds from nesting in the siren and also Federal Signal does their best to keep birds out of their sirens
I bet you they have some eows 812 or 408
how much would thae cost?
The prices differ bc of the different sirens.
the siren is a whelen wps 2750
This makes me sad seeing all them broken like this
Same
I agree
BTW I call them Five Oh Eights too
are they for sale
I Would Think So...
was the salter park thunderbolt there?
+Creeperboy Yes. Eric now owns it.
eric as in cheetawolf?
Creeperboy el1998p71
I know cheetawolf's name because I heard his dad say his name in a video
I got a free beaten up whelen 3016
And gave it to a town near me that doesn't have siren
Probably around $500 or less if you purchase it from WSS.

2001-DCs never have a logo. They don't fade. They never came with a logo.
Some do
+BOB!theGMObanana it's pretty rare though. Every vid I see they never have one
RDI Productions I have seen a roundback with a logo
+Avery Gustafson some of the DCs have logos but most of them don't

@@nvaa1991 Agreed

those megaphone speakers dam lol i would of grabbed them
