My daughter is also a former Marine. Similar wise, I often say how many mother's are blessed to have a beautiful loving daughter who is a hero to this marine mom, and to our entire Native American family. She experienced so many life changing events in her short 7 yrs in.
Okinawa was her permanent duty station. While there she a few others were allowed to visit Mt. Suribachi. She left a momento for all those veterans we lost, and to honor the historical and victorious moment when the Marines raised the 🇺🇸 on that peak. She's also stood on the DMZ between N and S Korea. She has even inspected the residences (palaces) of former Saudi Arabian and Iraqi leaders during the war.
My breath still catches in my throat when I remember the times she and I were on the phone and the base sirens began sounding the alarm warning about 'incoming'. All communications were cut, per protocol. Things move so quickly in the military and the phone line would go dead before good byes and love you was said. While I prayed for my daughter's safety every day, during those anxious and uncertain moments/hrs/days following these calls, prayer took on a new meaning and frantic urgency. Thanks be to God she made it home safely. Today I continue to pray for the Gold Star families. So many made the greatest sacrifices. God bless all our service men and women. For the fallen, may Gods perpetual light shine upon them, may they rest in peace 🕊️

Thank you for reacting to this, great reaction. I’m an ex pat, a Geordie by birth. Been a citizen of the US since 1987. My youngest son went off to Paris Island when he was 17. Two tours in Afghanistan before he was 21. Proud mom of a USMC Veteran. Had never heard this one before.

I left a bit of a long message on your earlier reaction today of Toby Keith's "Happy Birthday America" so I'll keep this short. Just wanted to thank you for reacting to this one. It always makes me a little emotional because I am a proud MOM of a United States Marine. He actually was at Parris Island in July of 2017...a month after he graduated high school. So I just wanted to give a shout out to all of the military service members, veterans, and their families today! The freedom we are blessed with here in the United States is all because of you. When I was in Army basic training a guy had a really long braided pony tail. Our Drill Sgt asked him if he would like to keep his hair. The barber cut off the pony tail and handed it to the kid then shaved the rest of his hair off in 30 seconds .
My twin brother was there in Paris Island I’m 92 in July. Our birthday was June 29th and the recruiter came to our house to get my brother but me and him were at the river and my Dad came and got us and we put him on a bus that night. He is still a proud Marine and we are still proud of him and others like my Dad, who is 80 but served in the Air Force. Many in my family have served and we are proud of them all!

We had 2 choices for haircut at basic, crew cut or a crew cut and it was a barber from the town so it cost us $5 but it saved time washing and combing hair

In the Army Women were called WACs, in the Navy they were called Waves, in the Air Force women were WAFs, in the Marines Women were Marines or if needed Lady Marines. There is no such thing as an Ex-Marine.

I had a very dear friend (and his wife), who was a Former Marine who was working as the security guard at the place I had just found work. I was a newly single Mom, trying to support two kids, and scared to death, frankly. Hank and I talked about how I had tried to join the military, but I was too short to qualify. He and his wife were so helpful to me, and he named me an "honorary Marine" after seeing my struggles. They were there for my girls and me, and you cannot know how much it meant to me to hold in my heart the name of "honorary Marine", although I knew, I really didn't deserve it. He was a true, God fearing patriot. His wife passed away, and he died a year later. I still miss them both so much. Semper Fi, Hank!! You were a true American hero! (He had many medals and was also a drill sergeant, at one time, at Parris Island.
Nothing but Admiration and Respect to my Brothers and Sisters in the Military! I use to tell them, when I came in contact with them, my being a police officer for over 20 years (now retired), I wanted them to know, while they were away from home protecting us! I was here at home, protecting their families! Hopefully, in some small way, I tried to make them feel a little better, being away from home. As I knew, they made me feel a little better, knowing they were busy, protecting me and my family. All My Best... To those serving in the Military!!!

Was in the Army but member of Marine Corps League as an associate member. They are "gung ho" and a bunch of good members. I wear a shirt to the meetings saying "ARMY because even Marines need heroes"

I went to Parris Island in July, 1979. I served until 2009. It has been my honor and privilege to have served with and to have led Marines in combat. Also those Navy Corpsmen that saved so many of us. Finer men I will never know.
My husband has been in the Marines for 28 years as we speak.. this life has given us a great blessing to love others, be grateful for what we have and the times we are together.. retirement is soon in our future but for now.. it’s Semper Gumby (forever flexible) as we go where the corps sends us.. stay strong and keep strong 💪 my friends!

Semper Fi to all my battle buddies over in the USMC. This former US Soldier knows the truth. Y'all are the rowdy brother. We might talk smack about each other, but after my time in Iraq, where I lived with Marines for the last 2 months, nobody I'd rather have at my back in a fight than a US Marine.

I am a U.S. Army Veteran... a friend of ours is a U.S. Marine Veteran... we like to joke around.... and he said to me one time "Do you know what ARMY stands for?" I told him to tell me.. he said... "AIN'T READY for MARINES YET" ... LOL! I respect them for the work they do.... but I didn't want the Marine's... a bit too hard core for me! I miss working with those I served with.... I wonder what they are doing now..... it's been about 30 years ago.... man, I feel old saying that!

Semperfi. Daughter of WW2 5th div spearhead marine _ iwojima purple heart. Sniper shot in the lower back _.17 years old while on an 18 day march... so numb he didn't feel the shot and thought he was still marching till a brother dragged him behind a log (__ he got to return to see that flag raised with those who landed on that beach under hells fire and blood __the ones you fought through to surabachi__ Came home with 1 nut and fathered 9 kids. Of which I am the youngest.

The 5th Marine Division was a United States Marine Corps ground combat division which was activated on 11 November 1943 (officially activated on 21 January 1944) at Camp Pendleton, California during World War II. The 5th Division saw its first combat action during the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945 where it sustained the highest number of casualties of the three Marine divisions of the V Amphibious Corps (invasion force). The 5th Division was to be part of the planned invasion of the Japan homeland before Japan surrendered. Assault troops of the 5th Division were included in the Presidential Unit Citation awarded to the V Amphibious Corps for extraordinary heroism on Iwo Jima from 19 to 28 February 1945. The 5th Division was deactivated on 5 February 1946.

I am so overwhelmed how you have more respect for America than most people here (this is not meant as being political) I just feel so much pride when I watch Dons reactions, I smile, cry, and feel proud all at once. Thank you for these reactions. I have been to Arlington and watched the changing of the guard, and have seen the silent drill team in person, but watching you react to them brings back the memories of seeing them and the pride you feel seeing them.

It makes my heart swell with Pride..whenever I read such a great a complement towards Trace's honoring the Servicemen !!!!

Everyday I give thanks for the freedoms defended by veterans. My dad was 1st Marine Div. W.W.II battle of Guadalcanal. My uncle was 4th Marine Div. W.W.II at Iwo Jima.

Interesting tidbit about Marine Corps training. San Diego is an all male boot camp. The Parris Island boot camp is where they send the women and also men.
Parris Island is literally HELL ON EARTH! A cool day is 100F/32C. Then, those sand fleas are so much fun! HOO RAH!
The day my son left for boot camp was so emotional.
