    Why no car? I have been going to Italy since 1984 and I have never felt a need for a car. My wife and I will move to Italy in the next year and if we want to go out into the country I will rent a car. In the city I prefer public transport. For me not running errands in a car is lovely. Our life style will be a city apartment. We can afford to have a contractor do our upgrades and I NEVER want to drive to another hardware store again. I feel like I have had a life time of driving and it’s enough. LOL.

      Totally agree. We have four kids and my mother in law on our insurance - granted we have four cars (three Jeeps and a Honda Pilot, so not fancy) and we pay $2,000 in payments and $979 in insurance every month! (Florida car and home coverages has tripled since 2020) and I feel like cars are nothing but an expense. At close to $3,00). month plus home taxes and insurance we could live well in Italy on the same $50K! If we land in Lucca the train is well connected to anywhere we need to go. For the Tuscan country weekends, there is a car rental place right outside the walls! Cant wait to give up the cars for a while!

    Brad, Olivia - Once again I love your honesty! Our house insurance, car insurance and taxes have skyrocketed in the last 3 years. To the point of the house now owning us, even though we are mortgage free. To see you tell it bluntly, "America is too expensive" really hits home! A few things are keeping us here 1-2 more years, but we are so ready. (My father-in-law with very ill health is the main hinge right now.) Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for speaking so candidly! Often when people complain about high costs, others think "they just don't make enough" but I no longer think that is true! You simply cannot get ahead anymore the way our parents did. I turn 50 this Friday and want the second half of my life to be enjoying life with my husband in Italy. Our three oldest kids are out and we have a 12-yr old who is eager to move too - we can homeschool him until he learns the language. Our 105-pound Saint Berdoodle (like your giant babies) is my worry. Which airline and what crate did you find that was ok'd for cargo? Anyway - we are making plans and slowly it's coming together.

      Possible. Depends where you want to live. And of course you can always rent. So many of my subscribers are looking to find a small place out in the boonies and those cheap but removed towns have limited public transport options. Especially in the hills, where you might be an hour by bus from the nearest train station. Just watch where you buy and make sure you check out these things seriously.

    What a beautiful waterfall that is! nice apartment too. Interesting to hear you saying the reasons you guys decided to relocate to italy. All of them make total sense and it was a smart decision. You and olivia are an inspiration for me from the moment i started watching your channel ❤. Why i wouldnt want to have a car in italy? Cause i am terrified of getting into an accident due to the fact that i am not familiar with the traffic rules, signs, language, plus italians are well known for been very agressive drivers, and tailing you all the time, and because it seems almost impossible to get a drivers license when you have to take a written test in italian which is over 400 questions!
    I have a question brad; you said you are driving with your international drivers license? Can you continued doing that even after you get your italian residency, and if so for how long?

    • @BradsWorld
      @BradsWorld  Před 4 měsíci +1

      They have laws here. But at the end of the day things are a little lax. For now I’m just using my US drivers license and international drivers permit. If I get pulled over, I doubt they’re going to pull me up on the database and see who I am. Rule number one is even if you speak Italian, you don’t speak Italian when you get pulled over by the cops. He just look at them blankly. Most of the traffic cops here aren’t going to be fluent in English. Or wherever you’re from…
      I heard a rumor that near one of the US bases here in Italy, you can just go into the local office and they give all the Americans in the area total blank check on things. They can even get bank loans. And if you go to the drivers license office, they just have you sign the paperwork and give you one. Not even a test required. so it really is the land of I know a guy who knows a guy. Even if that guy is uncle Sam.

    • @anaanastasoglou9498
      @anaanastasoglou9498 Před 4 měsíci

      @BradsWorld that would be great if I could get a driver license there without going through all that hustle! If I have to take a test in italian with more than 400 questions in order to get an Italian driving license it will never happen even if I live there for another 20 years! You should try to see brad if they can give it to you just for the asking and let me know! Hahaha

    • @BradsWorld
      @BradsWorld  Před 4 měsíci +2

      The train systems great for long distances are popping into Rome if you live two hours away. And if you lived in a big city like Florence or Rome or Luca , or Venice, of course you wouldn’t need a car. But a lot of people are watching these videos that want to live in the small towns. And I think it’ll be virtually impossible for them not to have a car. Most roads here in general are very empty. Most signs are done in symbols, not written language. And frankly everybody should be learning Italian that plans on moving here even before you start to move. Go with a good insurance company I use alliance. They’ve stood behind me 100% after a hailstorm and I’m getting the car repaired for a second time for something that was missed no problem. No questions asked.

      It’s not available in English although it is available I believe still in other EU languages but since Great Britain left not in English now. So thanks England… And yes it’s incredibly hard even if you speak fluently in Italian. My Italian friends here say there’s over 400 possible questions and it’s like an old-school Italian.
      I’m just gonna go with the international drivers route and hope the cop doesn’t check too much who I am. My car is owned by my company here so it’s not a problem for registering at etc. It’s Italy, there’s always a workaround.

      Brexit has a lot to answer for. I'm British and it gets me every time.. but there are ways around everything. I didn't know that about the driving test! That sucks 😮

    Not have a car?
    If a dual-citizen & tax resident, I'd need to get a license after year 1. Can't buy/register/insure a car without Italian license. Not impossible, but problematic.
    If I'm not a tax citizen, renting a car is quite expensive.

    Your videos are well made, and this place is beautiful. However, you have an erroneous apostrophe. It's supposed to read *Its Beauty is Inspiring," not "It is" beauty.

    You have to be a resident to actually purchase/own a car, correct?

      No, you can form a simple, limited liability company and then advise the car and you own the company. Ergo, the car. It’s not expensive to do and it’s a hell of a lot better than renting every time you come here especially if it’s for multiple months at a time. Cars are not expensive here. Thanks for commenting!
