    These type of videos are ridiculous, it’s not the camera it’s the operator

    Hopefully canon drops a C70 II FF this year 🙌🏼

    This is a really amazing video for me as I've only had the C70 for a week. I'm blown away by the performance outside but most of my lenses frock too much to shoot indoors which is where I do most of my work. I really need a good lens option and all of mine are currently RF. I'm trying to decide if I should buy a wide-angle EF and speed booster combo

    I have 2 Canon C70's and an R5c. The images you shoot are beautiful. That's what we sell to a client. The negatives you talk about compared to other brands are really not that bad. I think some very big things are coming for Canon Cinema and their high end mirrorless. 2024 should be a big year. Great content.

      Thank you for the compliment! I agree regarding the negatives of the C70; but still important to know as they might be deal-breakers for some professionals. Hopefully Canon releases a new camera this year!

    1. Not a single movie camera can take professional photos. This is a stupid quibble)
    2. Super35 is a cinema standard. Alexa35 also have Super35 sensor, and it's not a disadvantage. Super35 gives you a natural cinema look.
    3. SDI...yes, its a disadvantage of C70. If C70 have SDI - C300M3 would be useless))
    4. C70 can easily record Raw ST/LT in all modes and 4k 120fps on cheap V60 cards, so you don't need to buy V90
    5. Buy a cage and everything will work....Its one of the main advantages of C70, you can take the camera and shoot without any accessories, or you can take a cage and rig C70 whatever you want

    Good points. Just got a C70 and no regrets for my style of shooting (run and gun documentary). I came from a C100 M2 so the super 35 sensor is no stranger to me. Totally agree with the low light performance but I knew it before I bought the camera. The main thing I miss is no EVF. I like your wishlist for the ultimate camera - Maybe I've been foolishly loyal to Canon but they give you just enough without being insanely great - it's always been that way

  • @avdcam

    One thing to keep in mind is that a lower iso, like iso 400 actually has a lower noise floor in the shadows while iso 800 had slightly noisier shadows to provide more room in the highlights. But agreed, vs the FX3 having dual base isos gets crazy clean at 12800.
    I really feel the RF mount being so late to the party be e-mount has meant Canon is just behind overall during this tough transition. Hoping they can round the corner and compete again.

    so I have this combo, C500 M2 and C7...Awesome combo and for SDI solution I use the Blackmagic HDMI to SDI converter and sometimes I use the SDI connection on my external monitors (Atomos Ninja V) I love your C500 M3 specs though, multiple resolution of RAW would be nice...

  • @theyoungsphoto

    All great points. I appreciate that you mentioned the caveats in the first 2 points. If I'm buying a cinema camera, photography is not really on my radar to begin with. Also, the S35 sensor, I wouldnt say, is a reason to not buy. The DGO sensor is incredible with highlight retention, and low noise in low light. I have never had a problem in low light in the 3+ years I've used it shooting weddings and events. Some of the best cinema cameras on the market are S35 sensors. Last 3 points are spot on tho! Which is why I am hoping for a Box style cam with the same specs, to replace it. Great video!

    Assuming you're looking for a camera for documentary work or short films, and vlogs which one would you choose among Sony fx3, Canon r5c, or Canon R6 Mark II? I also like to take pictures occasionally.

      Personally I have a strong preference towards Canon. So out of the three you mentioned I would pick the Canon R5C because it has the cinema menu, RAW recording, and the XF-AVC 10-bit codec which edits great on my computer.

    I'd love to own a C70 but for my business I went with the R5C mostly because of the versatility of 45mp photos as well as the full frame sensor. The DGO sensor on the C70 is sweet though hopefully one day Canon comes out with a full frame C70 type camera

    The last point is really a gem, summarizing it really well, different shortcoming in each, and a c500iincould fix it for all.

  • @baekmedier
    @baekmedier Před 5 měsíci

    This is so spot on... i own two C70s for the colors to match good.. and then a R5C for high MP photos and the low light (it has dual native ISO 800 and 3200) and then the R3 because it has Flicker detection build in for when filming on construction sites.. its a pain in the ass that canon dosent make so that all cinema line up cameras has C-log 2 and at least on profile that has the same colors and that they are not limiting the gear for working together... canon cameras should be able to match with other canon cinema cameras.

    bad review buddy.
    1) its like complaining that the caravan doesnt do what the RV does. Common sense is get an RV which costs more for a reason.
    2) u say the c70 is basically weak compared to your friends sony (which tend to have a weak color scale and the battery tends to over heat) but its ur “go to cam”meaning your main A CAMERA
    3) Another oxymoron is thats it cant shoot good for pictures. why even say that when COMMON SENSE is that its a CINEMA CAMERA (as all cinema cams are for MOTION PICTURES NOT PHOTOGRAPHS. Lock in on ur subject,hit record, then crop a section out and thats ur photograph from the motion picture.
    4) SO WHAT if its a 35 mm crop sensor its not that much smaller than a full frame . 35 is actually good too (if thats the look you want) However i use ALL ef L series lenses with a speed adapter which works perfectly fine for compatibility and turns it to full frame and brings in way more light in low light scenes with the an L lense
    4) i noticed NONE OF THE FOOTAGE U SHOWED EVEN LOOKS CINEMATIC, which leads me to believe you dont know how to film properly with that camera.
    Learn ur camera before doing a bad review buddy.
    seperate the FACTS from opinions. This video came across my feed and im not even looking for reviews on this. ps i have 2. c70s and a 5d mark 4, which is everything i meed for film and photos.

    Im sticking with the C300 mark III. I absolutely hate the form factor of the C70. People have their preferences and form factor for me is a big on. I don't like the form factor, the positioning of the monitor/screen, neither work for me at all. As it stands, my C300 mk IIIs and my C500 mk II will continue to do the heavy lifting for all my Nat Geo documentary work

    • @carloscortesi6411
      @carloscortesi6411  Před 5 měsíci

      Are you filming in Clog2 or with the baked in color profiles? Also, I wouldn't say they are "restrictions"; just a bit noisy for my taste. I have also discovered noise seems much more noticeable in larger screens vs. smart phones. For XF-AVC I got what I consider "unusable noise" around 2700 ISO; so the sweet spot I personally like is below 1,250 ISO or maybe pushing it to 1600; and no more than 640 for RAW.

    • @ulrichschwienbacher5204
      @ulrichschwienbacher5204 Před 5 měsíci

      I film with XF-AVC Clog3 and I can handle it well up to Isa 6500 - often higher. But expectations are probably different between us. The C70's noise is very pleasant and cinematic.

  • @lowIQstuff
    @lowIQstuff Před 4 měsíci

    main reason not to buy: canon releases a camera with native RF mount (which is meant to be for full frame lenses) but puts a super 35 sensor into the camera; making all the new lenses cropped.
    that's some low IQ stuff right there, they're intentionally handicapping their own cameras. with sony raising the bar at every single release; canon better step up their game with their overpriced releases.
    if I was sony, i'd be generous with a few more releases and have more people switch over to their ecosystem and starve canon from cash. they have almost x4 marketcap already, just run them into the dirt.
