Thanks for watching my review of the Vertx Gamut 2.0 Backpack! Sorry for speaking so fast in it. Back when I filmed this one I was overly concerned about my videos being too long in duration. Hopefully you've noticed that I've been a little better with my current videos. Here's a link to the Gamut if you'd like to purchase one: amzn.to/2O7sYhQ Thanks for the support! ~Cliff

Customer service is brutal. I purchased several items including 2 bags. I figured out what was going to work for me and sent a bag and 2 accessories back. They’ve had it for 2 weeks (ups tracking) and I haven’t been refunded. One lady lied 8 days ago and since then apparently only one person can look at it but unfortunately she doesn’t take phone calls or return emails. Never had that problem with Vanquest.

I mentioned it on twitter a little while back, but I bought the gamut about nine months ago and it is hands down the best pack I've owned and definitely my favorite. It's replaced my Rush 6 and my Jumbo Verispack, even when they both can hold what I need. I use it to go to cons, travel and whenever I'm on campus and it is extremely comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
One thing I've come to realize with the side water bottle pockets is that it seems to be made to fit a regular 16.9 fl oz. bottle perfectly. The gamut plus has bigger pockets and that one might be better suited to your needs if you really want the bigger bottle. The laptop pocket actually holds my 17" laptop quite nicely, but anymore would probably be too much. I also use the top front pouch where the lip of the bag is as an admin pouch, just keeping things that I may need easy access to (such as my rescue inhaler). The weight of the bag itself, to me, is negligible unless you always have to carry around a lot that fills the bag to its max or a bunch of heavy items. Personally, I like the little bit of heft, since I can pack it light and still feel the bag on my shoulders.
My only big gripe about the bag is having it stand on it's own. I don't know if that's just the way the bag is or if my back panel that came with the pack was just bent when I got it, but I wish I could easily stand it up. I've tried to pack the bottom to where it widens, but it still leans forward and needs to be propped up against something. Maybe if the bottom was a little more "boxish" or something. I don't know if you have any problems standing it up, but I have. Overall, I really love this bag. I think it was worth the $200 I spent and always recommend it.

OdinicWanderer11 Thank you for providing such a detailed comment! I’m glad that you’ve been having great success with the Gamut over the past 9 months. The standing up part isn’t as big of a deal for me, since I’m used to just laying down or leaning my backpacks. I can see how this might be a con for others though. That is good to know regarding the Gamut Plus bottle pockets!

Another great video. I entered the contest, but still didn't know exactly what kind of bag I could win. And now I'm really happy I did. The combination of tactical features inside and civilian looks on the outside are perfect for my work. Good luck to all the people that entered the contest and thank you Urban Prepper for another fantastic review. Looking forward to the next video.

I love this bag.and the interior matches my red Rock pouches ,tan with red contrast stitching ,like they were made for it,but what in the world are the rubberized Velcro tabs on the shoulder straps ? did they put them on there to chafe your biceps as your arms sway while walking?? I'm about ready to cut them off

Great review and I liked how you moved fast through the features. One question, with CCW in the back portion do you get a lot of dig into your back or bulge that makes the backpack uncomfortable to wear.

Great review as always! I was thinking about the very same pros and cons as you were going over your overview. Really dig that front panel's versatility.
For the contest (also posted on FB):
I would like to see Adam from Equip 2 Endure LLC with a Dogwood Custom Knives or LT Wright Handcrafted Knives Genesis blade with ferro rod. He would be teamed with FRESH PRINCESS who'd get a cast iron (or stainless) cookware of her choice with an MSR spice missile to compliment any culinary goodies they'd be able to find.

  • @magi1969
    @magi1969 Před 9 lety +2

That's definitely something I'd consider for my next backpack, or maybe the bigger Plus version. The non-tactical look is really good; anything tactical automatically draws people's attention. Light inside fabric too, as it's otherwise really annoying to look for things inside. The stiff board inside is an excellent feature; I really hate sacky backpacks that ball up when they are stuffed full, and become impossible to carry on one shoulder. One thing that it's missing is external bungee cords or a big flexible pouch like in many Osprey backpacks; the external flap doesn't look like a good replacement for bungees that you need to carry a tripod, etc. The pockets look good, although perhaps already too many; some backpacks like Rush 24 have a zillion inside compartments, but they become a big annoyance if you need to move your stuff in and out often (I often go paddling and routinely need to empty my backback to my kayak and back). The full opening zipper with middle-way stoppers is a bit similar to my Arcteryx Khard (which features inner modularization which I'm not so sure makes any sense), which is a good feature.

i do like this back pack and agree with all your concerns - the water pocket is insecure and the back pad has weak air flow - the bullet resistant shield pocket is a good feature - such Shields are actually sold for this purpose - one thing that's easily fixed - although its a small problem - is the use of red in the logos - the pack is very low key and the red is like a flare in the sky - makes it easy for others to take note of you - red attracts attention - easily fixed with a sharpie - i black out all the labels on my maxpedition packs - anything worse than red is yellow or white on black ;-)

I have now been using the Vanquest Trident-20, although the Vertx Gamut is really looking like a nice option for me too. I’m still trying to finish the PDF of my Urban EDC Backpack video (it’s almost done!) before I can begin filming. I agree. It is very hard to find the perfect EDC bag. This one is definitely up there though. If it were $140-150 and could easily fit a Nalgene without it falling out, look out! I don’t mind high price tags if the product is going to last for many, many years. The problem I have is that I am a Gear Junkie and have a quick shopping trigger button. :)

So you could use this as a shield on one arm and the Trucker's Friend in the other hand and become The Urban Prepper Zombie Slayer!

I'd go with Kathryn from DoItOnaDime and Kyle the AverageIowaGuy. for the items I'd go with Becker bk11 and a Zebra Billy pot, just to see what those 2 very capable people can make happen

I was just thinking to myself that you should use water guns or Nerf guns to demonstrate the CC capabilities of some of these bags.
And then at 9:10, you did just that. Lol.

Whitfield Parham Haha... Our minds are synced. I filmed this video at a public park, so people just thought I was a little crazy talking to the camcorder with a squirt gun.

Ohh man. I hate to be a party pooper but I'ĺl say the same thing I did on Ads video of the Covrt...once it is out there as being a 'disguised' option....it is no longer an option. So thanks for advertising it.

EarlyMist It's a feature that the company advertises, so I don't think that I am ruining the surprise. Hopefully CNN doesn't cover this Vertx feature nationally though. :) I think the majority of people who see this backpack, and aren't CZcamsr Gear Nuts, will not know about that particular feature. Thanks for watching this video and for supporting my channel!

    • @EarlyMist

TheUrbanPrepper You're probably right...even though I had someone randomly comment 'nice Covrt' one day. Totally unnexpected and threw me for a six! Oh well...at least we conversed about gear for a few minutes before the train arrived. I remember you did an awesome video a while back when things probably seemed more 'urgent'. You were using kids backpacks in the above ground parking lot...very entertaining...but very wise. That is why your Swiss gear (was it Swiss Gear?...some brand like that) bobs and ghbs were a great idea. I think for edc..the Covrt, the Gammut etc kick ass. But Urban Prepper....distinction between edc and prep is an important factor. A lot of p'pers, law etc are gonna know about those bags. Cheers for the vid, been a fan of this pack for over a year...especially those lovely bright interiors. Very solid unit.
