Thatcher was all too influential. With the great council house sell off at less than half market value, she created a generation of working class Tories. Unfortunately for their children the whole idea of owning their own home is now a pipe dream. And she entirely squandered North Sea 🛢 oil wealth on tax reduction for the rich. The Norwegians set up a sovereign wealth fund with their revenues. Thatcherite idiocy has become accepted "wisdom" for the Charlie's of this world. Not to mention the Liz Trusses.🤪😜😝😛

The general problem with rich people having more money is that less of it ends up in the economy. If a poor person gets money they spend it. That money goes it to rotation and get spent again and again and again and every time it gets taxed. When a rich person gets more money it usually just ends up on a bank account or likely in a foreign investment.
Giving rich people more money is a waste of money and bad for the economy.

I mean there are ways around this, increase capital gains tax, create a Luxury goods tax (LGT) so cars over 100 grand, jewelry over 25 grand, clothes, bags or shoes over a grand, have 10% tax on top. The price of the goods is why they are bought it's nothing about value so the extra 10% cost just make them more exclusive and will not put off buyers. Also introduce a Land value tax (LVT) this would mean you pay based on how much you own, so no more council tax unless you own the land, and you pay a % based on the value. This will also stop hedge funds and the like sitting on land and developments which could be developed into houses. Solving the housing crisis in this country as well as increasing the tax revenue!

By lumping in a large proportion of the working/earning middle classes you can produce statistics that show "rich people" pay the majority of the tax. In reality anybody earning a salary is taxed according to the tax rules at a marginal rate of up to 60%. On the other hand if you are rich enough, and make money by investing money, you can keep your earnings offshore where they are not subject to the income tax system of the UK.

He sold dust-covers for keyboards and computer screens etc. However, it is to be remembered that £500 at that time was able to buy you 7 Mini Coopers. I am not at all sure I could turn over £100,000 in today’s money, into a successful business. All kudos to him, but like many success stories, he started out at quite a high entry-level. Even then, it took some luck or at least a ready-made market he had access to, via starting with associates of his father. His achievements are not to be sniffed at, many would’ve drank it away or smoked it or something. So he was willing to graft. I know some very hard-working young people, and my assessment is that 12-hour shifts, or 24/7 retailing making demands on your life, neither entitles you to buy a house nor afford rent for one. So graft alone won’t cut it now. Take care all.
