      You got that right, marks video in mixalodian scale where he says it's just a major scale with a flat 7th(?) TOTALLY opened up scales and their functions for me, I struggled for a while with scales, now with just that one sentence that all the other bass teachers didn't think of saying took my playing up three levels, 🤘🏻🤘🏿

    My biggest problem is adding in the pluck when attempting the double thumb pluck technique. I learned to slap in the "Flea" style. Love the tone, but slapping through the string has definitely helped my overall playing. Great lesson as always sir!

    Nice tip) Thanks Mark. Watching Wooten do this tech effortlessly had me lost. I guess the key to many bass tec hniques is to learn to just relax a bit and take things slowly.

    Hey Mark, Mark here. Good lesson. As a guitar player first double thumbing came easier than regular slap. I can slap ok now, but my pop sucks. Just doesn't feel natural or fluid. Maybe a lesson on popping. Thx!

    For me the hardest part is figuring out how to position my thumb. I have to slap using one position, then move my thumb slightly to hook the edge and pull back. It sure doesnt feel natural yet (and doesnt sound too natural either)

    I've been trying to learn double thumbs for a few months now, it does feel real weird, especially getting your hand loose enough to fluidly rest then upstroke all in one motion since I'll be off work the next few weeks, I think I'll pull a dimebag, I'll lock myself in my bedroom and not come out until I'm a double thumbing monster, lol

  • @labraunethacoldest9838

    For anyone not being able to keep on practicing this because the skin on the belt of the nail keeps tearing, put some bandage tape over it!.

    Hi Mark, any tips for breaking out of the pattern of 2 notes at a time up down up down for more complex lines? Eg playing triplets and other rhythms using double thumb?

  • @shameonlemon4098
    @shameonlemon4098 Před 3 lety

    Hey please could you help me...
    I try with the side of the nail and the up thumb sounds so weak. It's like the nail just slips on the string which sounds like a simple and weak pluck.
    I tried doing it with the middle of the nail and it sounded way better but it still kinda gets stuck on the string so it's fine only when i play very slowly.. not suitable for fluid playing..
    I just dont know how to fix this! It's been a week i'm trying to find a better way

  • @derrickb.7943

    Great job Mark! REQUEST: Could you please consider doing a breakdown of "Dig" by Mudvayne? The chorus and verse has some great slap bass lines, uses ghost notes and other techniques I've seen you teach.
    Keep up the great lessons! Even as an intermediate player getting back into bass I've found your lessons extremely helpful

    Where do I rest my thumb when I slap the G string?

  • @chrisbassartist4344
    @chrisbassartist4344 Před 4 lety

    So when you slap do you use both bounce and rest stroke depending on what you’re playing? My bass teacher is teaching me slap now and he’s working on a bounce technique with me

    • @talkingbasslessons
      @talkingbasslessons  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes. I use bounce technique for a LOT of stuff. Especially if I'm playing Mark King lines. Rest stroke is better for Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, some Larry Graham.

    • @talkingbasslessons
      @talkingbasslessons  Před 4 lety

      You're thumb doesn't have to be bent in any way at all. You just need to focus on the technique itself.

      @@talkingbasslessons Thanks for the reply. I find the upstroke very difficult because my knuckle seems to get in the way of connecting with my thumbnail. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the technique
