Looks like I need to watch the rest of the videos to learn how to work on my '04, Z71, Burb, 5.3 that needs an overhaul before long. I thought that white plastic crank seal protector is actually the alignment tool that centers seal on crank while plate is tightened up. Think I prefere the old SBC over these new designs but that's what we have to deal with now. Thanks for the great video.

Yeah,I still love my SBC, but you get much more hp stock and simplicity, and reliability. No setting timing, distributors, carburetors, and you also get better gas mileage.

Let the cover position the rear main seal. Buy moving the cover you don't get a true main oil seal. GM messed up by not having location pins for the rear cover. The little clearance for the cover to oil pan the gray rtv silicone will fix that problem when you install the pan. The front cover should be done the same if it does not have dowel pins for that cover either. On the older SBC and BBC had a tin cover which was doweled and never had a leak there. Also the rean main 2 piece seal was much better than the one pice by far. GM messed that up to.

Should use a straight edge ???? Or a jig set up for that job ???

I reused the original rear main oil seal carrier on the rear of my LS1 V8 engine about 6 years ago & since then it hasn't leaked oil.
I ordered the gasket & oil seal kit because it's common for the gasket to leak oil & it's easier to press the rear main oil seal in out of the car & on a work bench because it's very difficult to fit when you're lying underneath the car on your back.
The new rear main oil seal carrier & seals are different because the old olive green coloured rear main oil seal was 13mm thick whereas the new black rear main oil seal is 10mm thick so I just pressed the rear main oil seal in until the top of the oil seal lined up with the chamfer inside of the rear main oil seal carrier

"Three simple steps..." Engine is already out of the vehicle, sparkling clean. Yeah, simple.
Engine still in the vehicle, not so simple.

Yes, I understand that makes sense but with the engine in , it’s not easy to explain all of that of course have some difficulty but it is actually the same steps you need to do. if for any reason I can help to make your life easier let me know
