My godmother used to have rewinders and I had no idea why she used them until now. I’m taking notes from her and from you. Thank you for the advice and I will definitely purchase a reminder
At first I was confused as why a modern VHS enthusiast was talking about VHS rewinders, butI ended up learning about how they were actual practical. Cool.
Yup, my parents had one when I was a kid, and when I recently got ahold of a VCR, I made sure to also get a VHS rewinder. My parents always said not only was a VHS rewinder faster, but also smoothet, and better for the tape and better for the VCR.
I used to have GEVA VHS cleaning machines that not only rewound but cleaned the tapes too. Unfortunately both motors died on them and I don't know how to get them fixed. But I managed to get 2 rewinders at my local thrift store and 1 doesn't work but the other does. Good showing and cool video bro!👉😃👈
Gotta love the CZcams algorithm. Thank you for showing me this. This is beyond my time and I don't watch movies or TV with VHS anymore, but it's interesting nonetheless.
Great overview. Thank you! A couple of questions and I will keep my fingers crossed to see if anyone answers: 1) you mentioned the counter. I have a counter on my rewinder, but I’m not sure how to really use it. Let’s say I have a tape, but I don’t want to rewind it all the way to beginning. I actually wanted to stop at a certain point. My VHS player just tracks in minutes not with counting. So I’m not sure how to use a rewinder to get it back to a point in the tape that may be at the 7/8 point so I can start it at zero and not have to fast forward to get to the point that I want. Do you know how that works so that when rewinding it stops at the point of the tape, I’d like it to stop at? 2) with the high speed of the rewind on a tape rewinder, I wonder about the stress on the tape, especially when it gets near the end of rewinding. Does using a rewinder increase the possibility of a tape breaking at the beginning point where the tape is clear?
Good questions. I think they do slow down towards the end. I don't think I have an answer to your first question as the counters on these are often too crude for any fine controls. You may just want to use your VCR if your want specific spots on your tape. These are meant to spare you the excessive use of the VCR to rewind, however they do have their limits.

Rewinders back in the day, yes. Today, absolutely not unless you like fixing broken leaders. Even if you do, good luck finding clear 1/2" leader.
Then go on and waste your video tape and VCR heads.

Thank you kindly
Do you need to stop the rewinder before it reaches the start of the tape? Or does it stop automatically?

@@retrotechmallThank you!
Certified algorithm moment
I’ve always loved vhs tapes and rewinders i have over 30 rewinders
I've got over 40
Can I have one
Wow. Might be time to start a video rental store
VHS players rewind anyway. No need for a "rewinder".
yes, but VCRs can deteriorate overtime and the rewinding is slow. VHS Rewinders are reccomended for common use
