Aemond showing more remorse over killing Lucerys than trying to kill Aegon is absolutely insane characterization.
It makes sense to me. Luke was just a little cousin, he wasn't really a political threat and it was an accident too. But Aemond wants the throne and his bullying besotted unworthy elder brother is in the way... if you look at history royals are all about some good old fratricide
Actually not really surprised. While he is resentful due to the loss of his eye and thinking Luke was a bastard, Luke was younger than he was and Aemond's self-aware enough to realize that he's the 'Strong boys' were all following Aegon's step to bully/make fun of him. Aegon is the oldest amongst them and in their eyes, probably coolest--the first one to get a dragon, probably the only one who managed to teach Sunfyre the common tongue-LOL- and to be fair, despite his bullyish-drunkeness, Aegon could at times be charming. Also, Aemond was not exposed to the 'Strong boys' for years... Aegon, on the other hand, didn't seem to have any brotherly attachment/love for Aemond and didn't care if he humiliated him. Aemond was also one of the few who knew that Aegon didn't really want the throne, he's put there because he's firstborn, that's all. Then, to see his brother acting like a fool, and further humiliated him (the scene at the brothel), I'm not surprised at all Aemond is more resentful toward Aegon rather than Luke. With Lucerys, I think he was relishing to bully him only, being the one with the bigger-baddest dragon. I don't think he intended to murder Luke, but he didn't have full control of Vhagar so he's got regret on that part, and being the person who kind of shed the first blood-kinslaying...
Not really, that business at the brothel REALLY got to Aemond, plus he believes his brother is unfit for the throne and that he is more suited. It's a win/win for Aemond.
it was accidental and it launched an entire war. Aegon chose to be stupid and charge into war putting everyone and his own claim in danger, and it’s easy to explain and rationalize that he was going for Rhaenys
Fucked up but it makes sense. Luke was a little kid just following what the bigger kids were doing. Meanwhile Aegon has always been the ringleader behind all the bullying and unlike Luke he never stopped. I think the situation at the brothel was the last straw. If he can’t show basic respect for Aemond when he’s basically a walking nuke in the middle of a war then he’s really never gonna change.
The side eye Alicent was giving Aemond in the council meeting had me ROLLING!!!!!!! She was so shook for no reason. I thought she knew them people didn’t respect her!😂😂😂😂
She was too busy getting her back broke to realise the tide was turning against her 😂
@LoveK1 It seems like the women, who uphold misogynistic, patriarchal societies think that, by doing this, they'll be made exceptions to the rule. You know, "If I help the people in power stay there, they'll share some of that power with me." It's a flashing, neon letters FANTASY, because they don't realize that they're actually ensuring their own oppression. It always comes back to bite them, and these women then act confused, why they're not getting the respect they thought they would. Alicent had that moment in this episode, and Olivia Cooke played it brilliantly. She thought that, because she was the mother of the king and next-in-line, she'd be given greater say over things in the castle and kingdom. Instead, they talked around and over her, which Rhaenyra talked about dealing with in a previous scene. It's plain to see on her face, that she was thinking of the struggles, once voiced by her former best friend: "Holy s***. Rhaenyra was right, and I hate her even more for it." (7/16/2024)
I dont even understand why Alicent is at the small council meetings. Remember when Cercei went to one and they told her she had NO STANDING a the council? so why the fk is Alicent there. Someone remove her.

Daemon’s attitude is very Aegon the Conqueror - he was vicious to his enemies and used his dragons to his full advantage, but once the knees were bent, he lifted them up and treated them fairly. It’s House Targaryen in its purest form.

Alicent was probably hoping to get the Alyssa Velaryon treatment by being the Queen Mother, but what is more likely she thought all those years of her serving as regent over Viserys would count for something, BUT as seen in S1E9, the council doesn't actually respect her, aside from Orwyle. They plotted for YEARS to put Aegon on the throne without her knowledge, so the council not voting for her makes complete sense.

I would have instantly known who the dream woman was if the show used the canonical eye colors for all its characters. Most Targaryens have purple eyes (ranging from pale lilac to dark blue), but Daemon's mother had heterochromia with one purple eye and one Green eye.
My key points, for this episode:
1] "-- the traitor dragon, Melys!" How can a dragon have enough consciousness, to actually commit betrayal? It's an ANIMAL. A dragon's loyalty is to whoever rides him or her, at any given time. It's their RIDERS, who are capable of betrayal. They would've been better off, parading Rhaenys's body on that similar cart. She died with her dragon, so there's no way they wouldn't have found some piece of her, when they went to cut off Melys's head.
2] Daemon needs to get out of that castle, ASAP. It's driving him crazy. This feels like the root of so many horror novels, movies, and TV shows.
3] I giggled at the callback to the "duck vs. goose" debate between Rhaenyra and Laenor, in the first season.
4] That Green council scene was meant to further highlight Alicent's hypocritical nature, as well as to display her last effort to keep her father's power-play going.
5] I wonder if the show is swapping out Aemond for Daemon, in terms of a relationship with Alys. Those choker-shot camera angles suggest that something is brewing between them.
And 6] Going forward, I wonder how long the show will allow Aegon to recover from his injuries, if they allow him to recover at all. In the book, I've heard that he's the one, who lures Rhaenyra into a trap and ends both her and Syrax. Maybe, the writers are planning to shift away from that a little. (7/16/2024)

The king’s ass was barbecued, deep fried, and baked to a crisp! Rhaenyra is going to rally up the other family and the troops. Daemon needs to come back to her and they need to fight to become king and queen. They need to claim what’s theirs!!

Thank you for pointing out Alicent getting slapped by the misogynistic system she decided to help prop up. Rhaenys warned her last season (S1:Ep9). Feudalism/monarchy is already a crappy system of government and she didn't develop enough imagination to try to make things better for those who get most marginalized by it (women/children/disabled/poor people/ etc). I HOPE she has an epiphany and confronts Otto for using his influence on her as a child to help set this chain of events in motion
