Really good advice about treating green ear. I haven't personally done it yet, but this video is timely. Because I planned on treating a pretty bubble cut I have that really needs it, this Fall when I have more indoor time. I was an avid reader of Barbie Bazaar and what you said about that affecting the makeup in an enclosed container, I read one of the Barbie experts say the same thing. It can even change the color of the blue of their eyes. I also might add to your advice to anyone attempting it, be careful of not getting it on the hair as it could cause potential breakage and other damage.

Thank you! I've recently gotten out my childhood Barbies and am looking into restoring them. I was shocked at how much green came out of the inside of the head! I just started my first dose to the ears. Here's praying that she will have nice clean ears soon!
It went really well! One ear has a light ring around it because, as a child, I would put sequins onto a straight pin and use that as earrings. These were left in and packed up! The one pin was tight and kept the sequin close to the ear. Considering, the ear came out pretty good!

I really wonder why, and I almost don't want to know. I bought a Titian Swirl Ponytail Barbie who is in mint condition aside from some mild green ear on the right, and some worse green ear on the left. I probably paid way too much her. Anyway, I'm terrified of attempting to remove it myself. I wouldn't want to take the dolls head off for one, because I know there's a risk of causing a split on her head.
I don't remove my vintage doll heads either! I think the ear muff method works great, and because I can just restyle the top knots, I can then just wash the CLR out of them once the treatment is done. Yes, it's very hard to find some who will degreen Barbie ears, but some do exist out there. Have you joined any Barbie FB groups and asked there?
RemoveZit makes me nervous, because over time, it can makes the ears or side of the head turn brown. I’ve recently learned that liquid Barkeeper’s friend is really good too! So I may try that on a red headed bubble that I have to treat, and do a video on it!

Hey Johnny! I use cut straws, place hair pins on them to clip strands of hair, and roll up towards the topknot. Then I use another hair pin to pin it in place to hold it. Then I spoon boiled water over top, and let cool and dry for a day. I then unpin the hairpins, slide the straws out without disrupting the curl. Then I place an ortho band over the entire thing, up to the topknot, and slide down to the bottom of the pony until the curls bunch up into a multi-curl.
I've been restoring 1950's Shirley Temple dolls..We have no sun here for days and same thing in another week..I have no patience either..The last doll has some green on her face(very common).The acne meds work well IF YOU HAVE SUN OR HEAT!..im gonna try the CLR
It’s been absolutely horrible here in Michigan too!! No Sun or heat for weeks! I can’t even put them in a window, because it’s useless! I still do the acne cream and let it sit on my desk, but it sure takes longer!
I've cleaned a few vintage Barbie cases! I don't own any right now, but maybe I'll buy a fixer upper on eBay and do a video cleaning it and what I use! Thanks for the idea!!
Ooo we have a number 3! My grandma got it when she was 11 in the summer of 1960 she’s in good condition the worst part of her is her lips have like 1 Mark and the eyebrows are almost gone
Hi; I hate to have bad news, but sadly CLR develops dark / brownish stains in the long term unless there's a way to avoid this or neutralize the long term effect.
Actually, you're incorrect. You're referring to Tarnax which causes those issues, which I would never recommend. I would also never recommend, Remove-Zit by Twin Pines of Maine, as that can also cause the same issues. CLR is perfectly fine and safe; however, I wouldn't recommend soaking the head as it has been known to turn pink lip paint white.

Juanky Rodriguez I have to wonder if your doll’s previous owner tried Tarnax or Remove-zit prior to your attempt at using CLR! While it’s too late now, should you try in the future on other dolls, water and baking soda, or 50/50 water and vinegar to neutralize any cleaning agent.

Anita Varela I tried Clearasil once on a #6 and thought I faded her ear forever! Luckily, the color came back! I can do a follow up video! She still has a shadow, but if you can get them to be the best they can be, then that’s all you can do!

I recently picked up a platinum swirl doll that has a pretty serious case of green ear; it's contained just near the ear, but is very dark green and did transfer to maybe 5-6 pieces of hair. Is it safe to separate those few strands of hair and include those under the CLR cotton pad? Thanks again! Wish me luck. LOL
Hey Steven! Congrats on the Platinum Swirl!!! I own one as well, and I just love her! She has the white, oxidzed lip and original top knot and yellow ribbon. She even had the original metal hairpin, which I promptly took out and saved! I'll have to feature her on a video someday! You do know that swirls are notoriously hard to treat for green ear. Not impossible, but they take much more time, and you may have a shadow left behind. If so, Dolly Delights, on eBay, sells green ear pearl earrings, which hide mask the shadow! Good Luck!
Well, it’s been over a week and the CLR method has definitely worked! It’s about 75% improved, though I fear the progress may have plateaued, as I haven’t seen much change the last few days. I didn’t, however, remove the head because I’m scared of splitting the neck... She’s in near mint condition, green ear aside, but do you think I’ll have to pop the head off? Haha. I never knew they originally came with a hair pin! You should definitely feature her one of these days! I’ll also check out those earrings in case I can’t get to 100%. Thanks!
Steven Ryan if you want to try to pop that head off, prior to removal, place her upside in a Ziplock bag to keep her dry, and place her, head first, in a glass of boiled water, wait 5 minutes, and pop that head off. It’ll be super soft and not split. Then when done treating, you can reheat the head for easy replacement! Good Luck! It sounds like you’re off to a good start!

francine lostocco i absolutely do! If you plan on repainting the lips anyway, dabbing on 10% Benzoyl Peroxide zit cream, while removing it and reapplying it daily until the stain is gone will do the trick! If the lips are in good condition, it may fade the original paint, so you’ll have to pick your battle in that case! Good luck to you!!
Did you use CLR? If so, then she may have been treated previously with Twinn Pines, which I never recommend! If she was treated with two different products, it may create the effect you’re describing. Which Barbie head are you treating?

It’s a rust, mineral, and lime cleaner. I think the property of it is because you have the minerals of metal reacting to the vinyl, I think the cleaner cleans up or minimizes the minerals that may have soaked or absorbed into the vinyl!
@Elektrikpink I live in Portugal and ordered Silberbad from Germany wish is a product that cleans silver. It works as well as CLR but be careful and don't submerge and do spot treatment. I left a ponytail #4 head submerged for 2 weeks and while the green was gone, so was most of her makeup :(

I should also add that a swipe of a CLR soaked cotton swab inside the head also helps the process as well!

Those eyebrows are tough to do, but lip painting isn't too bad; just takes lots of practice!

No, it brightens and softens it actually! You just don’t want to soak in CLR for the potential of fading the lip paint

After treating the Barbie head, the side of her face turned an orange color. Is there anything that can be done to remove this orange color?
