- No music, no frills, just video and some comments from my ride from Gatlinburg TN to the peak of Clingman's Dome at 6,643'. All total was a 48mi ride from the condo in town to the top of Clingman's Dome to the observation tower...then down. About 2:00hrs up and 45 mins for the descent.

I did this ride in 2006. It took me the same time up and down as your ride. The only difference, I only climbed to the parking lot at Clingmans Dome. Definitely one of my most memorable rides.
Excellent video, and thanks for not adding in music.
I did this same climb in June, from Sugarlands Visitors Center. My descent wasn't as fast. There was a lot of construction, and the crews sprayed waters over the roads to keep the dust/dirt down. I had to keep my speeds down so that I wouldn't slip off the road. I also was prohibited from taking my bike up from Clingmans Dome parking lot to the overlook. Average speed for my descent was around 25mph. But I did enjoy the speeds descending, especially before Newfound Gap and just before Sugarlands.
They don't let you climb the last part, park rangers would not even let me walk to bike in July. I had to leave my bike with them and walk to take some pictures at the tower.
Yeah, in the Smoky Mountains, bike riding is not allowed on any walking/hiking trails. And although paved, its still considered a "trail". But when i did this exact same ride in 2010, I just went early enough in the morning before any park rangers were there and biked up it anyways.
