    It's a bit unfortunate, that we don't have an official TCG-ruling concerning the rollback-epudemicVirus interaction. You'd think, since this is pretty much the very first thing people wanted to copy, after rollback has been announced, there'd be an official statement about that. But no. This is very suboptimal.

      @@skuamato7886 I never claimed that an official statement was realistic or to be expected due to actions of the past. But imagine this: seen purely from a sauber view of the game as such, I think it would have made sense to just make the ruling clear beforehand, if this is THE most anticipated card of the set and if the community has already set their aim to use it to copy the effect of one (or two) very specific target(s).

    (responding to 5:14, mostly)
    It seems Transaction Rollback is supposed to be some kind of shadow clone of the trap it targets, so it circumvents the expense (the cost), as it creates another instance of that effect for basically free, but still has to respect activation requirements.
    It might look silly to explain this with the flavour of cards (how cards were reasoned to work in the earlier parts of the YGO manga), but for something like Harpie's Feather Storm you could imagine that the trap effect is a strong wind that the Wind Winged-Beast you control applies to the field.

    • @monkfishy6348
      @monkfishy6348 Před 5 měsíci +1

      What's weird is that sometimes copy effects don't need to respect activation conditions, or activation procedures and sometimes copy effects don't ignore costs. For example, Phantom of Chaos has copied the effects of Hope Harbinger, it cannot activate the second effect to detatch a card as cost (cost is not ignored). Fusion Duplication can copy the effect of Ultimate Fusion outside of a Main Phase (activation condition ignored). Sometimes other conditions are ignored or not ignored too, depending on a multitude of different things. Rollback 2nd effect in GY copying Heavy Duster Storm > you can proceed to Battle that turn. Rollback 1st effect on field copying Heavy Duster Storm > you cannot proceed to Battle that turn.

    Here's a tricky ruling I was forced to make the other day. Can "Destiny Hero Diamond Dude" activate the effect of "Numeron Creation" sent to the GY by its effect. I ruled that it can't, because the Spell cannot apply "attach this Spell from the field" (mandatory) to the Xyz monster it summons. Another judge brought up the fact that "Phantom of Chaos" copying the effects of Number 38 Hope Harbinger, can activate its Spell negate effect, even though it cannot attach the Spell to itself (mandatory). I countered with the fact that Transaction Rollback's 2nd effect cannot copy the effect of Xyz Reborn which special summons and attaches itself because Transaction Rollback cannot be attached from banishment.

  • @lefthandedscout9923
    @lefthandedscout9923 Před 5 měsíci +5

    For that first example, you say that you select targets at the same time as you target the card to copy in the GY with Transaction Rollback. If that's the case and you used, say, Raigeki Break as in the video, to target a card that has an effect that can activate when targeted, such as Maiden with Eyes of Blue or Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon, would those cards be able to be activated in response?
    As an extension to that question, what about Jizukiru the Star Destroying Kaiju? That effect responds to an effect that targets 1 card and no other cards. Can you use that in response to a Transaction Rollback targeting Raigeki Break then "targeting" Jizukiru?

      If i don't have an answer from anywhere, I would probably not allow the GY effect to legally activate it until a new text change occurred. As judges we cannot break policy or established precedent of a function rule just to make a wonky effect copy for the sake of convenience.

Transaction Rollback's 2nd effect cannot target Xyz Reborn because it cannot attach itself from banishment. You can't just choose to apply only the part of the effect which special summons an Xyz monster. That's an illegal activation, no different to trying to target EEV with TR in GY. So let me get this right on the Do's and Don't of Transaction Rollback
    Doesn't:
    • Pay a Cost (if there is one)
    • Copy an effect that says "This Cards Activation" in its text while it's in your Grave (changes with TCG vs OCG Rules). Example - Eradication Epidemic Virus (in TCG)
    • Work on Traps that Equip (including material I'm guessing) or changes the Trap itself into a Non-Normal Trap
    Does:
    • Bypasses the Hard Once Per Turn and Once Per Duel limit
    • Copy a card's effect that says "This Cards Activation" in text *IF* the card is *currently* being activated in Grave or is sent to the Grave before Resolution by your opponent and Rollback is already set on your side of the field and can be activated at that time
    • Still Need to meet the Requirements/Conditions of the effect like having a certain Type, Element or Name that's on/in the Deck/Hand/Field/Grave/Banish
    • You can Activate Transaction Rollback on an already active/activated Trap (assuming this works like Chain Blocking also). Example - you can get 2 Dimensional Barrier Effects for the Price of 1 if it and Rollback resolves
    Judges Personal Rulings may very on Person and Events but they should be consistent with TCG and OCG rules across the board.

    Transaction Rollback should be able to copy the effect of EEV, but it should not last for 3 turns if it is copying it from the graveyard. That is the only thing the "this card's activation" applies to. The duration of how long EEV or similar cards last.

      @@EltonLeonidas There is not at this time, which is why everyone is using the standard "ask your HJ" statement. This really comes down to a localization issue imo where additional or incorrect text is added to a card. @scott898586 Před 5 měsíci +5

      @@pazim96 That is not true at all as we are already ignoring cost, but not activation requirements. The only thing that matters is that activation requirements for the card being copied are met. Until Konami gives us a definitive answer, and good luck with that one here, I can likely see this being the main way it is ruled or it will be ruled to follow in line with the OCG. Rarely would I see it ruled as being an illegal play for EEV to be targeted. There is no other precedent set for this on either side of the game. What I am seeing discussed by other judges is exactly what I am saying in my original post at this time. It would apply the effect it has that can be copied, which is to check the hand and field and destroy the selected type, but the lingering effect would not be applied until the card was errata'ed to match the OCG version of the card. The card being referenced in the argument against it, Extinction on Scheduled, does not have any effect to copy aside from the delayed effect. This card also does match its OCG counterparts text which is why it is ruled that it cannot be targeted in the graveyard by Transaction Rollback in the OCG and everyone here is agreeing with that.
