So, join me for a walk around the centre of York at Christmas, as we take in the night scenery, the gorgeous lights and the spectacular energy of the city's wonderful Christmas market! Plus, we'll have a little look at some of the landmarks in the city centre as they're lit up by Christmas lights :)

To celebrate the festive season, every Friday this month until Christmas Day, we'll be taking a special festive walk around some of Britain's greatest cities - at night and under the lights! And to help soak up the Christmas atmosphere, there'll be fewer captions on the walks, with just a few notes to help you understand where we are :)
I'd love to hear your feedback on videos like this too - this is one of my first attempts at night filming, and perhaps you'd like to see more 'raw' walks without captions alongside our normal history walks to help you enjoy the sights a little more!
This is so beautiful to see this romantic Christmas Feeling in York and in Great Britain ! The illuminated shops and lights , that is for me the Christmas that i know in my childhood ! To be honest , i miss this all , because here in Vienna the famous Christmas Market at the City Hall was cancelled again , and i feel no Christmas atmosphere in Vienna anymore , thats really sad for me ! I hope it will be better next year ! So , Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for you and your family !

York, which I first visited in the summer of 1974 as an Army Cadet, has been a city I've revisited quite a few times over the years. It has, for me just the right size and proportions for a city. Everything seems to be within fairly easy reach. I love places with history and York has plenty of it.
I'm absolutely with you there! The Roman/medieval layout of the city means that it's designed first and foremost for walking, and as you mention that makes everything easy to reach without heading into the outskirts :) It's a great city full of history, and I hope this walk brought back some nice memories of York for you! Great video. The lights are wonderful. The streets look so Dickensian and medieval, somehow that makes it seem even more Christmassy. I've been there once, long ago. I'll have to go again, at Christmas time. The atmosphere is so energising.You can almost feel the ladies and gentlemen of yore strolling around the streets with their long dresses and top hats.

Thank you for sharing this. York is one of my favorites. I used to visit England every two years, but with this virus stuff going on, I have had to stop. Your videos are very helpful until I can visit once again. Even though I do not live in the UK any more, I was born there.

I used to visit York for about ten years around Christmas/new year's and then again in the summer. Unfortunately with covid this stopped. Last pub I went to was the Cross Keys. It's such a lovely city!
