One of the most amazing live performers going, saw them for the 4th time the other day in London, the crowd went crazy, was the sweatiest concert I have ever been to, they killed it and got the band going like no other. Long live The Hives
IMHO, and I've seen everyone I've ever wanted to see, they are THE best live band ever. They could be playing for 50 or 50,000 people and they would bring the house down.
I was there too, think capacity is about 600, and they gave every ounce of energy they had, an incredible gig. Then saw them in the middle of the day at Glastonbury get an absolutely huge crowd going, a truly special live band with every player giving it 100%. Love The Hives!
There's artists who do this and you can tell they pick what they want to be seen to be picking, and others who you can tell are picking what they're going to actually listen to an enjoy. The Hives definitely fall into the latter camp.
Some excellent choices there. This would explain why The Hives are such a great rock band. And you are right, "Shake Some Action" is one of the greatest songs ever written.
Flaming Groovies and Roky Ericson! I just waited for: The Johnnys - Highlights Of A Dangerous Life (Tom Waits, Closing Time and Rain dogs) Then I surely would have gone to church tomorrow!
The entire haul is great, but Johan came through with some criminally underrated (imo) material! Flamin' Groovies _and_ Roky Erickson & the Aliens 🔊 🎶💖
That Roky Erickson album gets a top rating from me! If you haven't heard it, try find the bonus disk where Roky is interviewed on a radio show and plays raw cuts from the Evil One album
5:18 I really like how all of them were like: Wait "why did they remix that? It sounded right" You can tell they are big enough fans to notice the production value enough to not even question it
I always find it great when the guests do a "Don't know anything about it" pick. Wish Amoeba would or could do a follow-up on those. Interesting to see if those picks turn out to hits or not with the guests. It reminds me of being young and just picking things out because of the album cover and making a discovery of a band or artist.
I'm just amazed at how many of these rock bands never mention the Toy Dolls. Yea, Bad Brains was a seminal, pioneering act but the Toy Dolls were extremely influential ,are an unstoppable riff machine and removed the seriousness from Punk. All the Pop Punk bands adopted that attitude. Plus, they're still performing to this day.
I had to do a double take to make sure I read the date right because I remember The Hives doing What's In My Bag 10 or so years ago! It I'm not really knowledgeable about music, so I was introduced to a lot of great albums through them the first time they did WIMB. Definitely going to listen to some of these and check them out.
I live the Hives and Amoeba for sharing the love of music! Reminds you of music you haven’t listened to in a bit and tap into those memories and feelings
I love the Hives, if your going to keep doing rock & roll in your fifties and on, in the fine way they keep doing it, there is one and only one gold rule….Lushy and abundant HAIR! and this 3 are exemplary subjects for that!
Svierge🇸🇪 Good Looking, Great Record Collections. They know b-sides and have impeccable taste. The Refused, Robyn, Abba, Soundtrack Of Our Lives, Avicii...they speak perfectly and eloquently. They reference Big Star, Flamin' Groovies...
@@ArtVandelay77 Let's lay off the stereotypes, mkay? That said, the Swedes punch well above their weight when it comes to gutbucket rock'n'roll! Really need a Hellacopters WIMB! Given the Roky mention, this fits! czcams.com/video/6Rfa3L3WQNs/video.html
@@KevKavanagh As a Swede myself i feel it's kind of obligatory to point out the social awkwardness that most of us scandinavians share haha. I'm a huge Hellacopters fan myself but I've never heard that cover, I'll be sure to check it out!
Also, I Don't Want to Get Over You is my favorite song off 69 Love Songs lol! I could listen to that one every day. "I could make a career of being blue, I could dress in black and read Camus, smoke clove cigarettes and drink Vermouth like I was 17, that would be a scream, but I don't wanna get over you"
I love that they're outfits are coordinated even when they go record shopping.
No they really do always dress the same. They have been doing this for a veeeerrrryyyyy long time.
They want other bands to know that they're part of a group. :P
One of the most amazing live performers going, saw them for the 4th time the other day in London, the crowd went crazy, was the sweatiest concert I have ever been to, they killed it and got the band going like no other. Long live The Hives
I was at that gig friken awesome live. So much energy. So much fun
Seen them 5 times already, they never disappoint
IMHO, and I've seen everyone I've ever wanted to see, they are THE best live band ever. They could be playing for 50 or 50,000 people and they would bring the house down.

their energy and stage presence is just amazing, saw them multiple times years ago and got tickets for next years UK tour, can't wait.
Man, The Hives make great music and their taste in music is absolutely impeccable. All the artists they chose put so much emotion in their music.
So stoked this band is back! Long live The Hives!
I like how they didn’t try to get over sophisticated or abstract just picked good solid records.
Agreed.
There's artists who do this and you can tell they pick what they want to be seen to be picking, and others who you can tell are picking what they're going to actually listen to an enjoy. The Hives definitely fall into the latter camp.
There is always a ”my favorite song ever” on every great album you own, its just how it is
The new Hives album is so good! It may be my favorite of their career, and that's really saying a lot.
Keep in mind 11 years of silence since 2012 album. It's insane.
They're the coolest Swedish Dads ever.
Hail The HIves!
Johan's taste is amazing. I loved all his picks! And I've never heard of those groups before. Thank you.
"great artists talk about great art" is my favourite genre of youtube video, so naturally this channel is perfect for me
Some excellent choices there. This would explain why The Hives are such a great rock band.
And you are right, "Shake Some Action" is one of the greatest songs ever written.
Flaming Groovies and Roky Ericson!
I just waited for:
The Johnnys - Highlights Of A Dangerous Life
(Tom Waits, Closing Time and Rain dogs)
Then I surely would have gone to church tomorrow!
The Johan and Only with some very solid picks!
The last great Rock n Roll band!!! It's almost like these guys worked in a record store back in the day. All solid picks.
The entire haul is great, but Johan came through with some criminally underrated (imo) material! Flamin' Groovies _and_ Roky Erickson & the Aliens 🔊 🎶💖

I think they have ghosts!
They even 😂 came in matching outfits. Love these guys
Roky Ericksons The Evil One is such a damn good album. Perfect listening around Halloween
I’m ashamed to admit I wasn’t familiar with the Hives’ music. Really good and their picks are outstanding. Flamin’ Groovies !
Vigilante looking nice and healthy these days. Good job!
5:18 I really like how all of them were like: Wait "why did they remix that? It sounded right"
You can tell they are big enough fans to notice the production value enough to not even question it
I think Johan, the bass player, does/has done some mastering for other artists so he definitely knows what he's talking about.
wow, impeccable taste, and also just turned me onto so many artists i hadn’t checked out. Hives remain as cool as ever
These guys have amazing taste. Cannot fault them on any their picks. Wrecking Ball and Bad Brains 1st record are utter classics.
Daniel Lanois omg!
The epitome of cool. Like the little, “lets stand and present, place on table marvel, in matching white,” 😎
I can't get enough of this band
I cannot wait to see them in San Francisco. Got my tickets. Got the record: It Rules. The Hives are Law.

Love ❤️ The Big Star 🌟 Picks !
Johan's picks are all his favourite songs ever ahahha made me laugh in every pick.
All bangers. Gotta love The Hives!
I think I'm in love with Johan
Bad brains live at CBGBs 82’ 🙌 I want that record so bad!!
What a lovely bunch of chaps and so unpretentious about their musical taste.
Johan has great taste! And a big power pop fan, apparently!
Johan named off like three bands I hadn’t heard of and thought “woah that’s great! Gotta check that!”
fantastic pics, great to see these guys again. Hopefully I'll get to watch them live soon, long live The Hives!
It's pretty cool. You can clearly hear The Hives influences with every single pick.
Vigilante being a Tom Petty and Tom Waits guy makes a lot of sense
Great to hear from Johan!
BLOODY HE'LL THE HIVES!!!
it's been a while, always a banger on a night out
Frickin ❤⚡it. You can't go wrong with Petty and Big Star (+Elliott Smith, Flamin' Groovies and Roky Erickson). Great these guys are back !
Man I love "What's in my bag" - always learn new songs!
Unbelievable taste. Love The Hives.
Wow great band, great picks!
I had to do a double take to make sure I read the date right because I remember The Hives doing What's In My Bag 10 or so years ago! Amados Hives, la banda más grande de todos los tiempos!
Brilliant band. Some really great choices there
So glad they’ve don’t an updated video 😊😊😊
We love the Hives ❤
Genie in the Bottle: And what would you like for your first wish?
Me: I want to see The Hives play with The Bad Brains at CBGB please!
What a blast lives shows of The Hives, you should all experience it..fu* long live this band!!!
The guy in the middle is like a younger version of David Lynch
Hell yeah, Tom Waits and Bad Brains!
Oh, 69 love songs!!!
Oh myyy. They are my favorite! So humble guys. But their music so garage so punk.
Good to have you back guys!
Either/Or is my favorite Elliot Smith album and that's saying something considering his output.
Great picks by a great band! Now can I have some ground pepper on my linguine please. Love the outfits😅
The Bangles did a great version of September Girls on one of their albums
Shake some action is definitely up there
Great picks, of course!
Those jackets are awesome.
Excellent selection! Tack swedee pies 😘
Good, nay, great stuff. Thank you.
I live the Hives and Amoeba for sharing the love of music! Reminds you of music you haven’t listened to in a bit and tap into those memories and feelings
September Gurls is such a great song...good choice
Fine selections 👏🏻
Cheers Arson! I've just discovered the awesome Howlin Wolf thanks to this vid!!
The bread and butter of rock! And some nuggets I never heard. Love this lil show
Those guyves are awesome . Great picks.
Either/or really caught me off guard
I love the Hives, if your going to keep doing rock & roll in your fifties and on, in the fine way they keep doing it, there is one and only one gold rule….Lushy and abundant HAIR! and this 3 are exemplary subjects for that!
cool picks, for sure!
Cool. I have most of these records. Sooo good.
YES! The Hives are the goats
Howlin' Wolf was my intro into blues and still only been surpased as my favorite by the almighty Son House. Such a great voice.
Geez man, their musical tastes are tip top
wonderful thing about this show is the living legends who go "shit, I've been looking for this.
Excellent taste
We get to hear Johan talk!?!
Great List Boys!
Barrely legaaaaaaaal!!!
My favorite band ❤
Of course they have incredible taste in music.
Finally we get to know a little bit more about Johan
Man, amazing taste
Nice shout to Wales ✌
The matching outfits!
Prob THE best live band ever - if you haven't seen them, even if you don't really know their albums, go see them.
They like EVERYTHING
these guys bring a lot of energy on stage, kind of crazy to see how dry and timid they seem on here. I guess that's Scandinavians in a nutshell.
yeah, pretty much the stereotypic swede for you
@@ArtVandelay77 Let's lay off the stereotypes, mkay? That said, the Swedes punch well above their weight when it comes to gutbucket rock'n'roll! Really need a Hellacopters WIMB! Given the Roky mention, this fits! czcams.com/video/6Rfa3L3WQNs/video.html

Solid choices
Their new album is really good 👍
Would love 69 love songs on vinyl
Yay Flamin Groovies!
Good stuff ❤
Many of these overlook records are now classic.
Didnt expect Vigilante to be such an Elliot fan, noice ❤
Say no more.......Roky always forever!

They asked how someone could remix Real Gone. Totally agree. And whoever did removed a GREAT Marc Ribot guitar solo on Hoist that Rag.
