  • We are excited to announce we have raised $150 million in a Series B funding round. This capital raise will rapidly expand our hiring and production and will accelerate the delivery of our next-gen robot. agilityrobotic...
    At Agility, we make robots that are made for work. Our robot Digit works alongside us in spaces designed for people. Digit handles the boring and repetitive tasks that are meant for a machine, which allows companies and their people to focus on the work that requires the human element.

      Agreed - creating an ideal system is super hard though, because in a democracy you can never really get any meaningful changes through. We need a free market and the right incentives for both the populace and the ones that rule it.

      @@xsuploader agreed, in 10 years we will see a transitional workforce, not a fully autonomous/robotic one. Many warehouses will be fully autonomous, some won't be. Many vehicles on the road will be fully autonomous, many won't be. I think by 2040 we will see significant autonomization of society and the workforce.
      By 2050, there is strong potential that this transition will be complete and that most jobs today both manual and intellectual could be automated and taken by an AI/robot (Yes, i said manual AND intellectual). The question is will they be? And if so, what role do humans play in such an economy? Do we simply rent out robots that we own to go to work for us? Thus, freeing us up to do what we love as our AI earns an income for us? Or, do we let corporations monopolize everything, replace human workers and leave us newly fired humans on the curb to starve? The choice is ours. We need to think of what legislation we want around this topic now.
      Side note: there is also a good chance that even 100 years from now many jobs won't be fully automated, but will be done by humans with the assistance of AI and robotics. Why? There will likely always be things humans will be more comfortable with a human doing, than a machine. There are also some things yet unforseen that probably can't be automated very well, or are just better off having people do them. Lastly, there will be even more jobs that humans will likely just want to do.

      What I love to do is drive a car. I know myself well as a passenger, I may not endure long trips, or short ones either, out of idleness, or even worse, if I let my gaze wander to my smartphone. Even if I sit straight and look ahead while sitting in the front seat, as a passenger, I might not endure it to the point that I would prefer to walk back rather than ride in a car. So, I can't live without driving. I enjoy driving a car, and I am against this stupid automation!

  • @anti-troll-software6151
    @anti-troll-software6151 Před 2 lety +2

    I think you are on the wrong track. You should develop Digit for applications where wheeled/tracked robots fail and where a human anatomy is useful. In Intralogistics you will lose against spezialised AGVs since they are cheaper and frankly faster. The market is also a red ocean right now.

    0:40 - Spees it up 100x and it's half the speed it needs to be. Also you use heavy mobile rollerwheelracetracks for that.
    It needs to go zakzakzakzakzak ~1.2 packets per second - times two. And when a wall of packets falls over (not that this ever happens 🙄) you need to deal with the mess.
    -
    That said, these robots are still super cool. Just not for this application case.

    • @tantamounted
      @tantamounted Před 2 lety

      Right now to run anywhere near that speed you'd need a brigade of humans and a multi-point conveyor system loading multiple trucks simultaneously, rather than filling a single long trailer in under a minute. I think what you're asking for isn't doable right now!

    • @mechadense
      @mechadense Před 2 lety

      @@tantamounted
      I've done this once. I'd say 1.2 packets per second per experienced person in the (half empty) trailer is about peak performance for unloading small-ish nice-weight pacrels plusminus a few perzent. Drops to perhaps 0.2pps for those darn heavy paper pacrels (which were not too ucommon surprises in there). What makes that possible are several mobile manually to place (quite heavy) long roller-belt-table-alu-gizmos. With them in use there's barely any walking. It's just grab-pull-put-shove grab-pull-put-shove full throttle. Just slow enough to not hurt yourself and to not cause too much of a trailer filling mess out of of-out-control fallen or falling pacrels (not unusual given the neverending stream of newbies). Loading is notably slower of course as it involves a bit of tetris. Usually there are two people in the trailer. And one in front splitting the pacrels (unloading side). That the splitter has often to deal with more than 2pps I'd say is not unrealistic.

      Not even close, a really good rate would be 400/600 cases per hour depending on size and weight.
