    These two had chemistry together. Jerry , very clever, philosophical, and emotionally controlled. Gary, all heart and sentiment. I could watch them sit on benches all day and riff off each other.

      Jerry seems more cynical than philosophical. Having worked with the best character actors of his era (their having made him multi-miliions), why on earth would he boast of a hostility toward actors and their craft?

    • @recipehacker9752
      @recipehacker9752 Před 2 lety +2

      @@hd-xc2lz because he feels actors have stolen thunder from his kind (comedians). He was crystal clear: he said his bellyache is with our culture , not with the actors themselves. Of course he’ll complain society doesn’t put comics on the same pedestal as actors- he’s a comic. Sour grapes!

      Not quite. At 7:00, Jerry recognizes something about what Garry was doing at put his finger right on it, then much later, added cars, and then, distilled it to coffee.
      Jerry recognizes tiny kernels when they're good, and then makes them into something that will grow huge... Larry with _Seinfeld,_ and Garry with _CCGC._
      I think Jerry even credits Garry at some symposium, or something.

    Wow, Jerry's take at the very end on the rise and fall of a show is pretty damn brilliant. But it totally makes sense why the majority of shows considered good DO in fact cross the line, and end up being bad before the last episode. The majority see $ as the top priority, and clearly Jerry/Larry are rare breeds who see the product as the top and only priority.

    Seinfeld is very cavalier here about actors. The other three (and the rest) on his TV show made him famous and mega rich. Is everyone else inferior because they didn't write the script ? Without the hugely successful show and the MASSIVE input from Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld would not be a world famous name.

      @@WARTV-dn5fk It is possible it cut both ways. the show barely survived the first 6 episodes ratings and the first season's. the writing and the performances both put it over. One mis-casting of the original 4 might have ruined the chemistry. Like Jerry's original casting of his buddy, whatsisname. it wouldn't have worked. I can't imagine him, or any actor other than jason Alexander doing that role. or Michael Richards. Or Dreyfuss. Those "other 3" are simply awesome comic actors.

      Well stated. Though I've long considered a lot of his stand up material great, I've also thought he was a bit of an ungrateful jerk. However, to be fair, I've no idea what it's like to be Jerry Seinfeld. I imagine people who reach mega success must become either bored with their lives or trapped by their own success. I can't imagine what it would be like to be so wealthy and famous that almost nothing is out of reach. While that could be a blessing, I see it more as a curse. I wouldn't trade places.

    The answers to their questions lie within personality type theory. Garry was an INTP type and Jerry is an INTJ. Very similar types, but with some significant differences. In particular, INTPs have Extroverted Feeling (Fe) in their fourth slot, meaning they are trying to get good at it whereas INTJs have it in their seventh slot of the stack meaning they don't use it well and have little interest in it, always preferring Te (Extroverted Thinking). The Fe cognitive function is about reading others' emotions and being able to effectively communicate your own. Hence Garry's interest in acting and the ability to be a good actor and Jerry's simultaneous lack of interest in it. Also, F functions are traditionally thought to be and seem to be more found in women while T functions are more found in men. That's why at times it seems like a male-female conversation, as they allude, with Jerry as the guy.

    After watching so many of Seinfeld's appearances on talk shows, interviews, his Comedians in Cars thing, I've concluded he has real problems with being himself and being truly genuine with others. The facade never comes down, and he remains overtly distant and distracted throughout.

    I just realized that Curb Your Enthusiasm is what you get if the Larry Sanders Show and Seinfeld had a baby.

    I feel that Jerry's biggest insecurity is shown right at the end: he is afraid of appearing to be unsuccessful, even though that is now ridiculous.

    Just recently got acquainted with Garry. Pure genius. Any idea if he and Larry David ever crossed paths or worked together? It seems as if they must’ve given how many close connections Jerry and Garry have. I just haven’t stumbled upon anything that suggests they did.
