It doesn't matter what res you use AT ALL( I believe adreN made video on that topic, you can check that out later). It's clearly preference. For example, most of pros played low res on 1.6, stayed on it. But some pros use FHD as well and so on.
+Molle VIP it depends on your eyes and monitor, if u have 24 inch monitor, some people eyes hardly look at the map and the crosshair at the same time if they're playing on strectched/16 9 . so they prefer black bars to have more focus at the map and crosshair. but i don't like black bars

They have that resolution due to 1.6 and after 10 years of playing like that it would feel weird to go to 1920x080. Without blackbars people use it so the player models get bigger, but thats different than a hitbox and hes not even playing with stretched.
