Around 1:27:24 Genesis Storm should've given you 3 permanents. The cycle of cards is basically "Commander Storm". You would get 2 extra copies at the current time stamp and then the original card would resolve, netting you 3 permanents.
CLtrackStar4 Justin did the same with the StormFork. Not sure if the rules would’ve forced him to copy Artifact Genesis Wave a second time. If it had though, Justin would’ve milled 62 cards, and the game could’ve gone different lt.
came here to say the same.
His fork spell should have given him the top 62 cards because it copies an addition time too. Love how none of them read the damn cards.
Mantas Čičinskas it outs stuff on the bottom after resolving not graveyard but i see the point of stacking his deck sort of
SchwertHamster No, Saheeli's directive put everything in the grave, not the bottom of the deck. Justin would have been milled 62 cards, and this game would have gone much, much differently. I just don't understand why everyone is having issues understanding these storm cards.
Justins turn around 1:32:00 is one of the most satisfying turns I have seen in a while...
Heads up: the storm cards were played incorrectly. You automatically get one use of the card then it gets copied for each time you cast your commander from the command zone. IE at 1:44:57 when Justin went 31 cards deep looking for artifacts with his Fury Storm, It should have been 31 then another 31 for a total of 62.
Justin didn't follow the rules???? What a surprise ;)
@1.44.25 I'm sure others have mentioned this but when Justin forked that Saheeli's Directive he should have forked twice (repeat for EACh time the commander is cast) (i.e. 62 cards!)
#justiceforstephen #greenlivesmatter #antibullying Jeremy even mentions him being milled for 62 @2:36:00
Same with each other time they cast a storm card.
1:44:25*
The carnage during Justins turn at 1:31:00 was quite a sight to behold.
Jund Life!
At @2:06:20 just a detail about Brudiclad, John's tokens are 4/4 forever. It's not a until eot ability.
yep, and he wouldn't have that flying thopter, because every token is now a 4/4. he can't choose which are and which aren't
This comment way too far down thread. Also, it's doesn't change your artifact creature tokens, it changes *all* your artifact tokens. Not that he had any at the time, but it turns Treasure, Clue, and Gold tokens into creatures permanently as well
Not only artifact tokens but ALL tokens you control.
Here's a cool idea for a video: each of you pick your favorite pre-con deck from any of the Commander pre-cons- whether it's from this year or past years- and supe it up however you please and play them against each other. The only rule would be that you can't change the commander.
or you can make any deck you won't but you can only use cards from the commander decks
I made a Marath deck with that stipulation. It was pretty strong in a casual meta. it'd be great if a whole table did it.
The "Build-Your-Own-Anthology" Challenge.
So knowing these guys I can predict the commanders:
Suarez or Green would go Kaalia
Parnell would go Meren
Noell would go Animar/Riku
If Suarez didn’t go Kaalia then he’d have Edgar
If green didn’t go Kaalia then wildcard
Was just about to say Parnell would definitely go Meren...and i can't blame him...i bought that deck and it's stupidly powerful right out of the box, much like Prossh. With a few upgrades it's i believe still one of my most consistent and most powerful decks.
Theme idea: Two Stage Boss Battle: Each player makes 2 commander decks, each commander has to be the same creature but a later version (like the two niv mizzets). When you reach 20 (or less) life, You go back up to 20 if you were below that and you switch out decks and draw seven new cards. Keep all permanents in play from the previous deck (except your commander, if that is still in play its exiled) and maybe keep graveyard. Or instead of full commander decks, each deck is 50 cards totaling into a full commander deck if building 2 decks would take up too much time. Some fun decks: Zurgo, Ezuri, Ob Nixilis, Ulamog, Nicol Bolas, Marchesa, Glissa, Omnath. Optional are cards that inherit a legacy, such as the obzedat, orhzova, and Karlov or Capashen. If you can come up with a worthwhile commander that has 3 or more versions, you can fight amongst yourselves how many transformations are allowable.
Also Wizards: Flip commanders that when you reach a certain goal/stage of the game, transform into a different commander in the command zone and/or on the battlefield. What if Avacyn was allowed to flip in the command zone and you got the 3 damage effect, then in order to reset her, and get the white avacyn back instead of red, you needed to cast her and get her back in the command zone? some fun design space there.
Great idea!
Hello randamonium.
Awesome idea. I'm gonna try that with my friend. Sounds really fun.
You could probably really game the system tho. If your first deck only builds the foundations for the second to profit from.
Certainly so, but the second stage of any boss battle is harder. Perhaps you build the first deck with a higher percentage of lands and the second with lower and more removal or combo. Then again, if your second commander has different color identity than the first, you might have to include sub optimal cards in the first deck just to make sure you can cast your cards in the second. I've goldfished this idea a few times, and one of my favs is Zurgo. mono red aggro that becomes bigger aggro in the second stage, but if you don't do mana fixing in the first with artifacts and rainbow lands like command tower, you can't cast as many cards in the second deck because of the addition of black and white.
I think Stephen should be done a victory dance for casting a land
You have no idea how happy seeing you guys makes me. Thank you
Great vid, enjoyed every minute of it. I didn't spoil this set for myself at all. I heard -through the wind- that people weren't happy about it, but hearing and seeing are two different things. So, I have to say, they're all interesting decks that could easily become powerhouses with some outside sources. Also none of them gain instant hate like Atraxa, for example, so for a casual play, they seem like a ton of fun.
How is it that Stephen Green is always playing my favourite commander of the ones presented?
#TeamGreen
It's always cool to see these played from the box. It shows a lot about the players and their skill when using the same precons everyone else will have soon enough. Can't wait to see the upgrade game.
Yall should do past/present partner commanders
Ex: Kamahl pitfighter and Kamahl Fist of Krosa, Surrak dragonclaw and surrak hunt caller, etc.
That could be cool
That is a great idea. I can see John playing both Thalia's
Balthor the Defiled/Balthor the Stout seems like it could be fun
Edit: And if they say screw the banlist, Justin would hop right onto Braids. If not, Kalitas.
Jeremy gets Ezuri. Stephen can bend the rules and do 5-color Myojin.
I'd play Glissas
Love watching you guys. Always learn a lot from you guys.
2:20:46
"We might be dumb, but we ain't stupid!"
Words to live by.
Keep up the great seasons. Can't wait to see you guys upgrade these decks.
1:31:31 no mercy in that turn by justin
lol it got so quiet too
13 god damn permanents
Was a real "I'm just tired of you all" moment...like dude went in a little too tryhard it felt xP Like wtf, Jeremy had hardly any board presence there and just wiped him out
It looked like you guys misread Brudiclad. Once the tokens become copies of something else, they don't turn back. It's not an until end of turn effect. I'm excited to build a Brudiclad deck. I think Desolation Twin needs some love.
Glad I'm not the only one that noticed that.
Theme idea - it would be awesome to see you guys "partner" any of the God Creature cards. I think it would create really unique scenarios and chances to explore combining some interesting effects. Bonus points if one of you partners Iroas and Mogis.
Big thank you to you guys. Ever since I discovered commander vs I've delved even deeper into commander. Looking forward to the next one!
What is interesting is that both this and the game knights video of Commander 2018 were won by the same card.
it seems to be an overlooked/underdog deck, because "lol lands", but its VERY swingy and because of all the ramping it filters/selects very nicely
game starts at 28:00
Thanks
Jesse Shipman thank you
Jesse Shipman I normally don't, but 30 minutes of nothing is just ridiculous
Can't get enough of your commander series
The Nas quote!
Lord Justin "No Mercy" Parnell. Now that's a good name! Great episode guys!
by the way, before Yennett there were 3 creatures with both Flying and Menace: Sky Terror; Wind Spirit; Two-Headed Dragon
Richard Coghlan To be clear, while they can't be blocked by only one creature, neither Wind Spirit nor Two-Headed Dragon have menace, for things that might care (like Odric, for instance)
Jacob Thorne Thank you! Why on earth would the Judge App not have the updated rulings!?
Video starts at 0:00
Hey guys,
I've got 2 favourite decks as of late:
I've been having a lot of fun with Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient as of late, but the new Tawnos, Urza's apprentice would be even better for this style.
And a special request for Justin, namely Demonlord Belzenlok.
As always you guys are great to watch and these commander precons are good as per usual!
1:29:30 - holy moley, I get the Butterflies on Aminatou - its a "Butterfly Effect" reference!
Minor changes to make BIG differences! woah!
Arixmethes was requested from MaRo and Creative by me, Anthony (AKA Tiro of Meletis) since I'm a major Theros fan, and was sore about the lack of the Atlantis trope from the novels on a card. As a result, Arixmethes was featured as the second most desired character card on Blogatog (behind Taigam) and in the MaRo article "Tell Me What You Want." Kelly Digges finally suggested it to Gavin, and Scott Larabee designed its abilities. Before that, Arixmethes was only mentioned in passing in the Godsend novel and in one Magic Story article about Kiora. That was enough for me though, and I am glad I created the buzz I did to finally get the card.
The storm cards are cast and then copy so you get it once PLUS the number of times you've cast your commander.
When Jon attacks Stephen at 2:07:00, he says 7 of the tokens will get through. If that were the case, Stephen would have survived. 7*4=28. But he did attack with the right number of guys to deal 32 instead, he just said the wrong thing.
Correct. Stephen for some reason didn't use his Soul Snare.
@ Jeremey Noell
Planning to build a Gyrus, Waker of Corpses deck?
Looking forward to watching this whole thing #noskips #teamsuarez
Btw you guys are definitely the best EDH group on CZcams... Props to J Parnell for being an awesome host!
What brand of card sleeves y’all using?
I need to know where to find those fancy thopter tokens John was using. Is there any way to find them?
I think you have to buy them from Star City Games.
I have tons and tons of EDH decks, while we can sorta guess your fav genres, getting updates on favorite cards, Commanders you want to try, stuff like that would be great. Would allow us to if not make a deck from scratch to fit *your* needs, but allow us to see which of our decks we think you may enjoy the most.... then again it may be posted somewhere and I am dumb.
Wait, Saheeli's second +1 can pay for X? Can someone confirm this? I can't seem to find relevant info through Google, but I may just be parsing it wrong. I interpreted it as "X is not a number, so X can't be reduced".
Stephen missed one copy of the genesis storm - you get the original card plus the 2 times he casted Estrid - oh well!
Edit: Seems to be a reoccurring issue here lads: Was talking to Jeremy during his stream about a 'live' CMDRVS and needing a judge; however you may need a judge for all games too! - I volunteer as tribute
At 1:15:30 Stephen should have drawn 2 cards since Kestia gives you a draw when enchanted creature attacks and when an enchantment creature you control attacks.
I think the reason yennett has menace is another reference to things being odd. since her having it means combat will most often involve an odd number of creatures. she either gets through alone, so 1 or is blocked by 2 and then we have 3 involved. of course this falls apart when someone blocks with 3.
At 2:07:00 I think they calculated combat damage wrong. Of the 11 4/4 Constructs, 1 at the walker, 1 gets soul snared, 2 get blocked and 7 connect for a total of 28 damage. Stephen was at 30 before that I thought or did he take 4 more damage from somewhere else that just wasn't recorded on screen?
Stephen never used Soul Snare. Not sure hwy he didn't, but the life total tracking was correct.
So he just rolled over and died? That sucks.
I’m confused.... was Steven not able to block? Or did Jon creatures of hexproof
Because he should’ve been able to block two, soul snare one and survive
I thought the same thing. And he was just talking about using Soul Snare on John's Doom Engine that was attacking Justin. And in the interim somehow forgot he could use it to save himself. Perhaps he lost the will to play.
ultiplayer1 that’s what I think! But I think he forgot cuz he top decked that board wipe!! It would’ve been awesome
Anyone else notice that Jon made two land drops in the same turn? Once at 39:55 and at 42:05
I was wondering why Stephen didnt end up Esper yet again then i saw the Arixmethes and it made sense lol
Good part starts at 0:01
At @1:48:10 does Justin say "Whose world is this, Dio?"?
For a league where I get $5 a week what would the best way to upgrade Brudiclad?
1:44:50 Justin had played his commander a single time at this point, which means he should copy Fury Storm a single time, and thusly get 2 versions of Fury Storm overall, and instead get all artifacts in the top 62 cards of his deck, not 31
Right? Or am I incorrect, I'm honestly a little unsure
You guys did Command-Storm incorrectly, you copy it for each time your commander was cast. So, one time (for the spell) plus how many times your commander was cast. You failed to count the original it seemed like.
Oh Stephen...the thumb comparison was your perfect opportunity to take Justin's finger...mwahaha
Im running the saheeli deck i use brudiclad as the commander to make armies of bane of bala ged, darksteel juggernaut, sharding sphinx, or even plauge myr. All with darksteel forge in play and myncrotth lattice. My first legit izzet deck ever.
2:26:08 Thank you, Justin!
@2:07:09 why does Stephen scoop? He can block 2 creatures. 8 are unblocked. He can exile one with Soul Snare. He would only take 28 and be at 2 life.
Y'all should've pointed out that Yennett's name, and flavor text, have only odd lettered words.
18:11 There is only one other flying creature with menace and it is from 5th edition so it was before menace was a thing
Ooh finally an Esper Zombie commander!
Looks like I'm moving Ertai into the 99.
1:35:18 the sound of people having fun
Waiting to see if they take the other commanders and make a deck for them. Especially the ninjutsu commander card.
I like watching them play but seeing them misplay cards ever single episode gets extremely frustrating.
Why did I bother paying to see blade runner 2049 when I could’ve spent that time watching this video?
Unlike the amazing blade runner 2049 and other 2.5+ hour movies THIS can be paused at your leisure and watched thru out the week until next Wednesday. You can also watch it on an IPad or tablet on the pooper like I am right now 👍🏻
Dai - Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. (I loved 2049 myself)
Dai 大 it was better than the original
Regarding K being unimpactful, that's the whole point. He's noone special. He thought he was the child, but he's just a replicant amongst thousand others, he doesn't matter. So he sets out to influence the things he can, here reuniting Deckhard and his child, and going against what's asked of him by not killing Deckhard, to choose for himself since he's a nobody otherwise.
Dai 大 why did the comments on a magic video turn into a blade runner dispute
Justin destroyed 13 permanents in one turn, quite impressive. Around 1:31:21
hah, I posted almost the same exact thing before I read your post ;)
Nick Safford yes that turn was a little too good
Love the lebowski reference lol
I love the new intro!
Theme Idea: Partner commanders with legends that also have Planeswalker cards. Karn, Xenagos, Jaya, Venser, Ob Nixilis, Samut
Someone would play Narset and ruin it all :p
stevens face at 1:43 is priceless
So, bit of a misunderstanding with Brudiclad at the end.
His(?) effect lasts indefinitely, not until the end of turn or whenever, so all the tokens would have been 4/4s to eat the Wurms, making any attacks Justin could have done VERY negative.
Overall, everything went pretty much to plan. the Enchantment and Artifact decks set up big mana plays, yet had no finisher, the the jank deck does it's thing and cheats a bit, but not enough to matter, and the Lands deck finally wins since nobody killed them when they didn't have enough lands out for the first several turns, so they got to Jund everyone out.
The servo and thopter were both created after Brudiclad's trigger, so they actually were 1/1's.
When they were talking about green haste the first card I instantly thought of was Putrefax
Double Aladdin reference this week
Can we acknowledge that a sick Stephen green was calling mr Noell "Germy"
That is the biggest complaint I've heard about Lord windgrace is that it was named a lands matter deck but really it's just a jund good stuff deck. Ps Do you guys know how the mask tokens work with doubling season type effects would they choose new targets or the same one?
Mask tokens from token doublers would have to be put on the same target, since it's Estrid's ability choosing what they go on.
I kinda like Thantis. It's like a Jund group hug/voltron commander and I kinda like it. I love the art too
Idea, what if they did a theme where they built decks around Legendary Lands instead of creatures
stephen's phyrexian rebirth token wouldn't have been very big, but his slime would have been gigantic and had an open field, slime had that mask, slime would have exiled and the creatures that would have been destroyed then slime would have had a ton of counters, the phyrexian token would have been a 0/0.
myles Weidman and then the slime wouldve killed someone so him not snaring hurt my soul
Justin made a mistake, fury storm would have cast Jon's huge X spell twice according to the text.
1:37:00 jonathan swings with 2 constructs at steven, steven acknowledged but damage wasn't taken?
Yall should do ability tribal only i.e. only creatures with trample, flying, deathtouch, first strike, etc...
What did I miss? Why did Stephen die? He was attacked by 11 4/4s 1 was at Estrid leaving 10. He blocks 2 leaving 8 and then exiles another. Which leaves 7 and Stephen takes 28 damage.
Just so you guys are aware, Commander Storm copies the spell for each time the commander has been cast, but the original spell still resolves, so Steven should have gotten 3 permanents at 1:27:00
29:00
This is the SCG Commander Series. The video starts at 0:00
legend
Is the intro really 29 minutes? …. ouch
_Chronicles across the ages describe the timestamp man. They likely refer not to one commenter, but to any user that arrives early to a starcitygames commander video._
Based and Redpilled
What does everyone think of a legendary creature card that allowed itself to replace itself as the commander mid-game so long as it had the same color identity as the current commander? New tech to hide the theme or strategy of the deck within the 99.
1:26:00 the Storm cards say it's a COPY for each time you cast your commander, so you should have gotten one more permanent.
1:45:00 Same deal should do another 31.
Brudiclad doesn't say "Until end of turn" so all those tokens should have stayed Constructs.
Jon can't attack with geode golem when it enters right
Oh wait never mind
There's some kinda of high-pitched noise throughout the video. It fades in and out every now and again, but it's still pretty bad, could you maybe have a look at that for next time?
At @1:45:00 when Justin casts Fury Storm, he should have copied Saheeli's Directive twice. The first copy happens because he played his Commander once before and the second comes from Fury Storm itself. That's a bad mistake, since he'd lose 62 cards from his library.
My bad, only one missed copy of genesis storm on that mossworth bridge/genesis storm play.
Double wrong in the mossworth bridge/genesis storm:
Mossworth bridge says you play it, so no copying.
Also if you had cast it, it would have been three times, once for itself and two copies for two casts of commander.
You play a spell by casting it. FYI
Oh yeah, got that backwards. It's worded play so you can also get lands. But they still messed the count; should be three instead of two.
That awkward moment when you try and correct something and get the answer wrong
Devin Cameron Yup, was too eager to correct. At least I was partly right
Do you think the guys would appreciate my Medomai the Ageless deck? It's pretty fun.
I don't know how to suggest a theme so I'm just posting it here in hopes someone will see it. I would like to see Tribal Pauper as a theme. It would be cool if they used lesser tribes but Tribal Pauper would have some fun restrictions and we could see some inventive decks. Thank you. #CMDRVS #THEME #TEAMPARNELL
His thumb is perfectly normal size, it's only slightly smaller because his hand is slightly smaller, it's still the right proportion. Your thumb is supposed to be big enough to reach the opposite side of your hand.
The commander storm cards copy themselves so you get the cast even if you haven't cast your commander! Then each subsequent commander cast will result in a copy so just Justin should have flipped 62 cards at 1:44:49 lol
The commander storm cards should storm for one more
This game is so long, Stephen Green flipped from heel, to face, back to heel again, all in the run of this episode.
Jeremy always attacks Stephen, I find that funny.
#TeamGreen
Jon played two lands during the turn at 39:48
Good catch. He plays his second land for turn @42:08.
John could have ult saheeli at around the 2 hour mark and created token copies of everything including the doom engine, then during combat could turn them all into scuttling doom engines
Saheeli was at 6 loyalty at that point. Her ult costs 7. I was thinking the same thing, but I checked her loyalty at that point.
Stephen is going to remove his face and reveal he was estrid all along
So Justin made a rather blunderous misplay at 1:44:34 when he Fury Stormed Jonathan's Saheeli's Directive. Justin had cast his Commander once already, so Fury Storm would have made two copies of Directive, meaning he should have milled 62 cards, likely decking himself or getting very close to it.
actually it would only make one copy, but the card copies the effect of the original card even if you've have never cast your commander, I assume this is what you meant. the way you have explained it sounded like how torment of hailfire is played (I hate hailfire for it's poor wording).
Windgrace had been cast once that game (as evidenced by being on the Battlefield at the time). When Justin cast Fury Storm, it would have copied itself once. Saheeli's Directive was the only valid target for the copy. He could target the original Fury Storm, but it would effectively do nothing until he chose something else. The Fury Storm copy would then copy Saheeli's Directive, milling him to the Sol Ring. Then, as the *original* Fury Storm resolves, it would copy the Directive *again* milling him for *another* 31 cards, likely making him deck or be dangerously close to.
yes, this is what I said, john plays directive, justin plays fury storm, storm copies directive and makes ONE COPY of itself targeting directive. I was pointing out that what you said was "john plays directive, justin plays fury storm, storm makes TWO COPIES of directive" just pointing out it makes ONE COPY of itself, not TWO COPIES.
He definitely had more than 31 more cards in his deck. With how many turns went by after this he would not have been decked. While this was a major error he would have just gotten more worms with his worm harvest thus "winning more". So while the mistake is big I do not think the outcome of the game would have been affected too much.
Justin misplay again. Not that surprising
If an enchantment creature is also enchanted, would Stephen then draw two off that new Bant lady? I’m not sure but I think he would right
Alex Keyser i dont think so? The trigger is per creature so it should still be only one creature even if it fills both requirements
Man, only watch Commander VS to see Stephen Green HAHA.
