- So which of these portable toilets is the Best Toilet for Car Camping?
I've been car camping now for almost 12 months and in that time I've used a bowl, a urinal bottle, a collapsible toilet and a Porta Potti.
But which is the best toilet for car camping?

Since losing my gall bladder and having other plumbing work done this is a topic close to my, er... heart. I used to use a 20 litre plastic bucket with a plastic toilet seat balanced on the top, went to a porta potty but the drawer handle snapped and emptying it became a rather dodgy affair. I now use the collapsible unit and this works a treat for me. I double bag, always. Not sure about the UK but in Australia petrol stations with public toilets are a rare breed. I know there is no profit in keeping toilets clean but working on the road as I do it gets challenging at times. I either don't eat or use the collapsible. Enjoyed the video.

With mobility issues, the only thing I can think of is the tallest collapsible toilet inside a pop-up pod outside of the vehicle. That kind of defeats the point of "stealth" camping, though. 😮🤔
This is it, you do need to be a little limbar to use these in car, but if your not stealth car camping, then a little pop up up privacy tent and loo would be perfect 🙏
Public toilets are few and far between these days and I am always nervous when going out.
Absolutely, I love the fact that the porta potti means that you maintain stealth 😁
I love this Matt, very interesting toilet concepts and yes I do think it's a getting older thing! The ONLY thing I was apprehensive about with camping was the toilet set-up - not just communal pooping but also the dreaded getting up in the night scenario. I was so paranoid that I literally didn't drink hardly anything and it was an issue. When I did have to go the loo in the night it was quite scary...wandering around just with my little torch in complete darkness and my eyes not feeling v focused either. Some kind of toilet arrangement for the tent wd have been great though not sure how the boys wd have felt about me peeing in the tent ;-) Great ideas though x
Cheers Em, that’s exactly the same reason why I’ve got one for car camping 🙏 do you have a living area in your tent? Just whack it in there, it’s not large :)
@@zafiracamper yes there are 3 sections...2 sleeping compartments and living area in middle

I settled for a hassock style toilet because I can cover it with a furniture cover and use it for a seat or table when not in use. Bio gel will solidify the contents and make it easier to dispose and to avoid leaks.
Ah sweet, I looked at this type too - kinda like a mix between a porta potti and a collapsible type. My Mrs finds it gross that in my videos I use the porta potti as a table 😂
I got the very same one! I actually haven't gotten to use it yet, i gave up on buckets because it was just too much trying to keep it "fresh" and we will not be peeing in it. I've got other things for pee but for 💩? Absolutely. And I didn't want to deal with more than 25lbs of waste so yeah, I'm looking forward to that not being a nightmare part of camping!
It just makes life sooo much more easier, I love my porta potti … so much so I made another video just about it 😂
That's what I need a porta-potty that was what let me down I didn't think to take take one when I went out so hopefully next time there won't be any need to go home to use the loo.

I use the pine cat litter .. opposed to the grainy pebbly standard cat litter. I have the collapsable toilet too but it does take up space at night so what I do at night for the early morning relief is a double zip locking bag with a 2 cups of kitty litter and go #1 right into the bag however, I think the bottle might be better as long as it doesn’t leak if it tips over…that might be much better.
Hi MaryJ… well from a feminine perspective, my other half couldn’t get on with this bottle and adapter.. what she used last time we went was actually a recommendation from a female subscriber.. basically a plastic container essentially with proper air tight seals.
She went for the cylindrical side, but now realises that an oblong/square one would be better 🙏

Hi Julia - ah that’s easy.. when I’m car camping I have total blackouts so no one knows I’m inside (using the loo or sleeping 🚗🙏)

@@zafiracamper Thank you, just watched the blackout video. I particularly like the covers you put over the front door windows. But where do you place the toilet? on the seat, in the well? and which one? I see stability issues.

The collapsible one, you can't fold it back up when there's something inside, right? Just want to be clear on how it works.
Hi there, yeah your right. Once you put the bag inside you can’t fold it down (I should have included that visual within this vid tbh).
The collapsible works very well, we use it when couple car camping as no room for the porta potti.

Very interesting video, may I ask where do you put the collapsible toilet to use it at night when you travel with your wife? In my car the double bed takes up all the space and we don't know where to put it to use in an emergency during the night. Thank you very much!
Hi there, and many thanks for commenting - if you check my set up videos - the bed that we use is a garden chair, so there’s loads of storage room under the bed. Tbh tho the collapsible toilet is quite small when folded down, so should squeeze in somewhere if you have the space for it?
@@zafiracamper Yes, I know your car setup, I've watched all your stealth camping videos, my doubt is where to put it when "in use" (not folded), in the middle of the night.
Ah gotcha (and many thanks for watching ;) Well, you only need to open it out when you use it :) We had it stowed away until it was needed. Because there’s a bag that your waste goes into, you need to take the bag outside and then you can fold the toilet down again 🙏

I got to go first thing when I get up and I don't feel like using anything but what's close to me. So porta potty is the only way. Understand why these other guys wouldn't want that luxury. Definitely not going overboard. I mean if it costs like $1,000 sure but they're not that expensive.
