New PS2 Exploit - MechaPwn - Change your Compatible PS2 Region and Play PS1 Discs Too! (2021)

  • I think this is big news for 2021, and I'm excited to discuss MechaPwn, which is basically a new ps2 exploit that patches the mechacon of certain compatible ps2 systems so you can change your region, and as a bonus, play ps1 original and backup discs too!
    Let's say you have a NTSC-U console and you want to play your JPN retail game. It won't work at first, but once you apply MechaPwn and respective patches, then yes you will be able to play your JPN game without getting a physical JPN console! How cool is that!
    Warning: It is very possible for you to brick your PS2 if you do not know what you are doing, so please, pretty please, read the github carefully, and if any issues, create a github ticket. Enjoy!
    Note #1: Go to the GitHub, they added SCPH-790XX fix.
    Note #2: As clarification in the video, when you do the region, you want to select the region you to go GO TO, not the region you are FROM. For me personally, I only want to do USA region since I am NTSC-U and that is all I care about, but I wanted to make that clear again.
    Note #3: Although playing PS1 backups is a nice "side effect" of MechaPwn, I want to make it crystal clear that this is not the main intention of the team.
    Note #4: Apparently, the correctly way to pronounce MechaPwn is "mekka-pone". I said it as "mekka-pawn". For some reason, I always pronounced "pwn" as "pawn", and not as "pone", so thanks everyone for pointing that out. Clearly you know this better than I do, lol!

      I think its great. You can also play PS2 backups on slim models by patching the iso's with FDVDRBOOT then burning them. No chips, tuna, POP, OPL or FMCB needed!

      Hi
      I installed this when u first released the video can MECHAPWN was on 1.1. Now it's on 2.0 and there has been several changes. One that concerns me is listed below.
      Important note: Every CD and DVD will be detected as a PS2 disc, meaning it breaks PS1 games and DVD-Video
      Thought I will let u know because the developer is updating the elf daily. And this the latest update it effects PS1 discs.

      Hi @@Adam-rt7lp , i just tried the exploit on my SCPH-70012 PS2 and i was able to play burned PS1 games with no issues, chips, cards or sticks. But i could only play official PS2 discs, no DVDs AND my FDVDRBOOT patched burned PS2 games stopped working! I ran the exploit and flashed it from retail dex DTL-H70000 back to cex SCPH-70000 and my "DVDs" worked, but i lost burned the PS1 CD feature

  • @robertyu6691

    Will this affect the PS2's ability to boot DVD video backups?
    I ask because I have found a new love for Jabu's patcher, which patches FreeDVDBoot and ESR onto a PS2 backup image and makes it usable to unmodded PS2s.
    EDIT: And another thing: as I have bought a retail PS2 umodded from the store, and a SCPH-77001 at that, do I still pick the DTL option?
    Thanks, and good video.
    EDIT: And just two last questions:
    1. When installing the exploit, do I need to have to ready a CMOS battery if I want to change the region? I ask because my PS2's battery is dead, therefore no settings are saved after I pull the cord.
    2. Do I need the Memory Card that I use to install the exploit on if I'm not playing outer region games or PSX backups?
    OK, if you answer all those questions, I will back off from answering more.

    • @ProjectPhoenixMedia
      @ProjectPhoenixMedia  Před 3 lety +2

      For what its worth, my self boot game worked fine. For your unmodded ps2, yes select the DTL option.
      Other two questions:
      1) CMOS battery can be bad, no issues there. Confirmed with dev team on discord.
      2) You can boot the ps1 disc without a memory card inserted, if that is what you mean? I have a lot of memory cards so swapping one out for another one to save ps1 save game files or ps2 isn't an issue for me.

    • @robertyu6691
      @robertyu6691 Před 3 lety +1

      @@ProjectPhoenixMedia For your answer in #2: I meant that if I'm not using the PS2 for booting foreign games or backup PSX games, Do I still need the memory card?
      Now that you answered it the way you did, I'll ask differently: if I'm using the PS2 to boot foreign games or PSX backups, anything I want the MechaPwn exploit to do, DO I still need the memory card for it after installation, or is it redundant?
      Thank you for your answer.
      EDIT: I'm an idiot. I didn't take in the fact that no Memory Card was involved in the making of this procedure. Since Funtuna, Fortuna, and OpenTuna makes use of MCs, I assume that this would be similar.
      OK, thank you and smack this idiot if you want.
