      Well there are exceptions. Goldfinger for example never told Bond his plan deliberately. Bond had to sneak in on Goldfinger's meeting with the mob bosses. All he tells Bond is there isn't a heist involved. It is from that Bond realizes he plans to irradiate the gold and drive the value of his gold supply. Another Bond example is Drax from Moonraker. He notably doesn't tell Bond the plan when he puts him in the death trap and Bond once again has to sneak around to find him explaining the plan to the other villains. Another good example is G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra. Macullen tells Duke only what his current step of his plan is (launch three ICBMs with Nanomachine warheads at Washington DC, Moscow and Beijing) but doesn't the one detail about his plan that would have avoided the events of the sequel (One of his minons will kidnap the president and replace him with Zartan). Star Wars actually has two examples where the villain revealing the plan is not something that would screw them over. In Episode II Count Dooku telling Obi-Wan there is a Sith Lord in the Senate had three possible outcomes. A. The Jedi dismiss it as a lie and don't follow up on it allowing Dooku and Palpatine to continue their plan unhindered. B. The Jedi do follow up on it and this furthers the divide the Jedi and the Senate making it more plausible that the Jedi would attempt to overthrow the Chancellor. or C. The Jedi's investigation reveal Palpatine is a Sith Lord, they gather evidence of this, present it to the Senate, and enact Order 65 removing him from power, but Dooku being a Sith Lord would benefit from it all because now he is the new master as per the Rule of Two and can enact his own to rule the galaxy. The other is Episode VI. Palpatine wanted Luke to kill him so him gloating about his plan while killing Palpy is the only thing he could do about it is not a bad idea.

    Love the "You're evil!" part - always thought if Luke (or Rey, for that matter) was killing the Emperor to save the galaxy rather than out of pure hatred, it wouldn't necessarily mean he fell to the Dark Side. I mean, how many stormtroopers has he killed? The guy blew up the entire Death Star, which must have had hundreds of thousands of people on board! Killing Palpatine shouldn't be any different just because he's got a fancier job!
    (Although I shouldn't complain - the alternative is apparently to ignore the interesting moral question of the personal cost of killing an enemy, in order to instead focus on "If you kill me, a spoopy Sith ghost will possess you!")

    • @Yabuturtle
      @Yabuturtle Před 3 lety +2

      I think it changes you to kill someone who is defenseless and at your mercy. To kill in the heat of battle is one thing. But striking down someone when there could have been other alternatives can change you. Destroying the death star was also out of self defense since the death star was going to destroy the rebel base. Here, Luke isn't defending himself against the emperor and he is the aggressor. Once you kill them in cold blood, it changes you as a person and then suddenly you start giving into your hatred more and more until you become the thing you swore to destroy.

      Hellstone But if one of his THOUSANDS of words and teachings were written down and said book was lost during say, a 5000 year war-it wouldn’t be remembered. And that’s IF it was ever a mainstream teaching. If it wasn’t, it’d make no sense for the Jedi to know about the ability. For example, lightning wasn’t discovered till Episode 6. Luke used choke, so no moves back then were Jedi specific. Nobody questioned why Luke didn’t use lightning on Vader. Or why Vader didn’t just choke Palpatine when he killed himself in the process. And yet.

    • @DeadmanRedux
      @DeadmanRedux Před 4 lety +13

      @@stanleylee3329 Only Sith can use lightning. You must practice the dark side of the Force to use lightning. Luke couldn't have used lightning because he never gave in to the dark side. If you're getting this from the comics or the expanded universe, remember that George Lucas never intended for the books and comics to be canon. Star Wars is a great series but it's not perfect. There are some inconsistencies. Also, everything you said in the first part of your comment is just assumptions and speculations. Just because a 5000 year war was going on doesn't mean the texts would be lost. If that's the case, they would be blown up or shredded in pieces. Forgotten through time. But no. They were specifically on Ach-To which is the home planet of the first Jedi Temple. How did Luke knew of the existence of the temple? How did he find it? I'm guessing someone like Yoda or Obi-Wan told him which means they knew the existence of the ancient texts. Maybe they were left there so they wouldn't be destroyed. Ach-To is one of the most unexpected planets to search for Jedi or the text since it is a planet of small islands and a massive amount of water.
