That was my exact reaction when I learned a few days ago that the "very hard" difficulty was a thing. I didn't even know of it when I was a child.
F-Zero GX is honestly one of my favorite games of all time. I have spent many hours just training to be faster, snake smarter, shift boost better, MTS sharper, etc. It is one of the Gamecube's gems, one I find to go underappreciated. I am glad that it is being given some recognition here.

Yup, evey single level, and I do mean, EVERY SINGLE MISSION is a pain on Very Hard. I consider beating all 9 of them on all difficulties one of my greatest achievements in gaming Lol

Wouldn’t know from experience. Chapter 1 didn’t give me enough credits for Chapter 2, and I didn’t really care enough to get any more.
The one where you can't drop below 700 km/h? I found that one to be one of the easiest ones as well.

Okay, it looks that hard.
Those runners have played this game almost non-stop for years, while others have played the games for years on Very Hard without even passing Chapter 7 (assuming they managed to get this far). And yeah, speedrunners have the ability to make it look "easy"...
CGN destroyed the game live at AGDQ 2014 and it wasn't even his PB. That guy is almost a human TASbot in GX.
The hallmark of a professional is that they make their job look easy. I was a machinist and metal fabricator. People look at what I do and think its easy. Its not. Its also a LOT more time consuming than most realize.

You don't know it? 5 games (2×N64, GBA, Gamecube and DS) 3 of them japanese exclusive (only the DS-game was released were I life) a few hundred Robo Parts. 50 Arenas and a 3D-battle gameplay that is so awsome and good feeling, that you can play it for WEEKS! Those games are so awsome, but yet so underrated and unknown, it's a total shame... You might remember Ray Mk III as an assist trophy in Brawl. You know, that one tiny cute robo, noone knows and that was left out of every Smash game since, but at least returned as a Mii costume in Smash Ultimate...

F-Zero GX is probably the most difficult racing game ever made. And the awful story mode cutscenes are actually hilarious in a so-bad-it’s-good kind of way.

MythrilZenith Have you played F Zero X? I'd wager that game is a little bit harder than GX.
Nah, X was just grandprix, so normal races, if you have fundementals you can beat it. GX story mode had many different objectives that made it more difficult on very hard.
HaxorViper Once you get the pattern down, and know what to do, the story mode scenarios are doable, at least. In F zero X, the cars are 10x harder to control, and the relentless Ai don't let up.

Oh man I remember how painful Chapter 3 was. I got stuck there for so long, and that track's song playing in Smash gives me PTSD.
Also, Chapter 1 isn't that bad normally. But on "Very Hard" mode... it's a different story. And guess what mode you have to beat to unlock all the secret characters?
I can't see Chapter 8 now without thinking of that AMAZING AGDQ run, where the runner gave Deathborn a 1 and a half lap head start and still destroyed him.

Dude, this game was insane. I remember playing this as a kid and literally crying out of frustration that I couldn't beat certain things (and I considered myself a good "gamer"). I remember asking my Mom if there was someone I could call or hire to beat certain things for me so I could unlock some of the characters/cars lol...
..but I eventually beat it. Still consider it one of my greatest gaming achievements

I've been trying it for 2 days. I had one really good run, and seince people said to hold up on the ramp, I did, but ended up hitting the wall instead. If I didn't use the stick, I would have made it (;-;)
I agree, because normaly it's 50 seconds on Normal and Hard difficulty, but on Very Hard difficulty it's 40 seconds instead.
Chapter 1 very hard is the hardest stage: change my mind.

Worst part is that you have beat these chapters on *very hard* difficulty to unlock all but two of the playable racers introduced in this game in the ingame shop (the two exceptions are just to beat every chapter on normal and hard respectively).

The character that you unlock on Hard difficulty, Spade, actually made his debut in F-Zero AX. Deathborn was the only unlockable character that debuted in GX.

Yeah, even the 2D games were pretty challenging. But GX is the highest form of challenge in a racing game series. Once you get used to the maps and find your way here...GX is actually easy...on Master and Very Hard (minus a few chapters).

It's so cool to see you play this under rated gem. I've been speedrunning this game for a year now and it is just the most satisfying game I've ever played. I probably wouldn't of discovered this feeling if this game was easy to 100% complete.

-The sellings of f zero have fallen with every new game over millions units for the snes game to over 600 000 units for f zero gx
-there are other race car games much more popular( mario kart 8)

Petit Sapin 600,000 is a lot lol, especially for such a niche franchise. Besides, Mario Kart has been getting pretty stale and predictable lately, so much in fact that Nintendo decided to port MK8 rather than make a new one. I think it’s the perfect opportunity for them to bring back F-Zero.

Well, sure...Beating the game isn't that hard.
It's the Very Hard mode that separates the boys from the men. You think beating Chapter 5 was impressive at 49 seconds? Very Hard expects you to do it in 40 seconds. You have to be FLAWLESS.
Princess Luna there is no flexibility for chapter 5. Can you believe that my record on very hard difficulty is 39.999???!!! Even if you barely slip out the closing doors at the end, if the time is 40.001 it DOESN'T count!!!
Not quite. My time is actually juuust over 40 seconds. Maybe 40.203, but it's very slight nonetheless.
I forget my record...it took me a few days to get it down perfect with numerous attempts of me crashing into the door as it closes.

But that's what's so great about it, it doesn't take long to do, and once you do it it's a satisfaction you'll remember for years. I'm a fanatic for the game so I go back to it every now and then though...

Besides, the Grand Prix on easy difficulty is pretty much braindead anyways
Tibasu Nintendo will add Phoenix Mode so that your car comes back after exploding. Not only that, it will be placed in 1st so that you also don't lose any time.
And it comes equipped with a White Tanooki suit.
What you saw is only the easy mode story, the hard mode is just a bit harder, but the very hard mode is really hard.

I would like a new *half racing half action-based F-Zero game* that works as follows:
*Racing part:* Similar to F-Zero GX in terms of gameplay, but with updated visuals and newer tracks, but importantly, I want a *unique special boost/ability* that each individual vehicle can perform after filling a meter or collecting enough power-ups.
*Action part:* Similar to old Spiderman games in terms gameplay, where you can roam in Mute City (whether by foot or using Blue Falcon), fighting bad guys on the street or even doing missions (since Captain Falcon was also known as a bounty hunter and has showed some aspects of that in the F-Zero anime) with a small story section where Captain Falcon has to put a stop to the evil schemes of *Black Shadow* of destroying the whole universe or something like that.

+Luigipokemaster 1 Yeah, I actually had A LOT of ideas for the racing part as well. For example, in other racing anime series such as "Dash Machine Hayabusa" or say "Bakuso Kyodai Lets & Go!!", each car had its OWN SPECIAL ABILITY and thus each of them felt UNIQUE and DIFFERENT in a way. For example, they could have done the following:
1. Falcon's Boost Fire: The machine turns into a giant FIRE FALCON which boosts the machine's SPEED to its MAXIMUM, thus making it useful in the STRAIGHT LINE parts of the racing track.
2. Ryu's Boost Fire: As in the anime series, the machine turns into a SPINNING TOP which makes the machine turn very SWIFTLY, thus making it useful in SHARP CORNERS of the racing track (which is what Ryu did to beat Falcon the first time).
3. Black Fire: The machine is surrounded by a giant shield (or turns into a giant Black Bull Aura-like creature) and DESTROYS whatever is in its path.
Also, I think that other machines which did NOT have the Reactor Might in the anime series should ALSO have had their own special moves. For example, for Sonic Phantom, its special ability, when activated at a certain point, could be making the machine invisible/ghost (i.e. Let's & Go power-up style).
I want an F-Zero game made by Platinum Games that focuses on Captain Falcon's life as a bounty hunter.
Every pilot possible should be playable. Yes. Every pilot.

One of my favourite streams I've seen is Lythero playing through this entire game on the hardest difficulty. Well worth a watch if anyone wants to see more of this game.

I love this game dearly. Fantastic video, I can promise you I wouldn't go back to play this mastapiece as much as I do if it wasn't for the high difficulty ceiling because once you become very good at the game, you want/need a high challenge in order for the gameplay to remain engaging. I actually wish the cpu was more challenging on certain tracks on Master difficulty.

This is easily one of your most enjoyable videos I've watched and would love to see more like it in the future. Keep it up man!
If they make an HD remake of GX (please do, Nintendo), I do want them to keep the awkward movements and hilariously bad voice acting from the original. That in combination with the music that sometimes just isn’t exactly tonally right for the scene makes the cutscenes a lot more entertaining. Especially Chapter 6 (titled Black Shadow, which is the speed bomb one).
Your video style and sense of humor was completely different for this video like a ProJared or SpaceHamster video. And it was really really good this is my new favorite the Jwhitzz video.
Watching this makes me cringe since I beat the entire story mode on Very Hard lmao
But anyway I hope F-Zero comes back it's my favorite racing series of all time. ;-;
3 crucial tips:
1. Set your camera to one out from default. It helps a lot
2. Learn to quick turn. Hold L+R, then press the stick while releasing the opposite shoulder button. That's how you negotiate the tight turns.
3. Learn to MT. When going high above your top speed and a boost runs out, release the accelerator until you want to boost again or your speed drops to ~100km/h over your top speed or something.
On a related note, Princia Ramode was really cute.

Dracomut The F-Zero series was pretty successful actually. Sure it didn’t sell millions like Mario, Zelda or Pokémon but, as you said, it’s a niche series, so does it really have too?
I mean, many of Nintendo’s other beloved IP’s such as Star Fox, Metroid, Earthbound, and Pikmin are also pretty niche. They also happen to not sell millions, therefore becoming neglected. I guess you can’t really blame them though. Just take a look at the best selling games on their consoles. It’s always Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, Smash....
....same exact thing every time.
So I suppose it makes sense that they only want to make games on series that they know for sure will make tons of money. It really sucks, but it’s reasonable. Seeing as Metroid Prime 4 is happening, I hope this means Nintendo begins prioritizing what the smaller yet highly devoted fans want, and maybe we’ll get a new F-Zero, and hope to god, a Star Fox game that isn’t the same exact story again.

About time someone brought out to F-Zero GX
Man, I still remember getting frustrated with some of these missions on Very Hard back in the day. I beat them all, but man was it tough. I don't know if I could still beat them. I should find out sometime. ...I'll give myself at least until E3 to see if Nintendo finally brings back F-Zero so I can try on the new game.
Chapter 6: GARY THERE’S A BOMB STRAPPED TO MY CHEST!!!!!!! (Spongebob)
This is the game that my cousins and I loved and hated at the same time. The multiplayer was an absolute gem that we all could enjoy playing together but the single player campaign was nothing short of an exercise in frustration and humiliation and you've aptly demonstrated why. We never made it past the 30 man GP level and the path to it was absolutely brutal. I shudder to even think about the depths of depravity and masochism Hard and Very Hard require. Over all this was a brutally difficult game and I think one of the reasons we won't be getting another installment of it in the future.
Why does the Devil look like Samus and Sterm did the fusion dance?
I once picked up F-Zero GX out of curiosity and i couldn't even make it past the second mission. Sure i could win some of the races in the Grand Prix but that was only after lots of trial and error and even then i couldn't make it that far.
I wanted to keep trying but it was until i came to Port Town's Long Pipe track when i quit the game entirely. Not only was this track really hard for me cause i kept crashing into the turbines or other racers, but it legit gave me motion sickness with how much i kept spinning around the track.
Don't get me wrong, i did have fun in the beginning, but in the end this game's learning curve was just to steep for me.
This game was my jam, still is! Hoping that after 15 years, we get a new one soon :D The Captain must return.
Honestly, after hearing you talk about it on Twitter... or on stream, I really like the format of this video. Taking hard games you've struggled with, and describing the challenges each section of the game brought and if you did manage to succeed or fail. It was a very entertaining way to do videos, and I really would like to see more like this one in the future.

In all seriousness Chapter 7 was the hardest mission for sure. I remember I was fortunate enough to find an F-Zero AX machine and unlock Pink Spider through that and eventually beat Chapter 7 on Very Hard months later lol
