    OCI option is not dual nationality. It is only giving rights to people of Indian origins to enter India as they have roots, assets, investments and by this option given opportunity to stay connected to their ancestral homelands. By denying OCI rights, people of India origin will be forced to sell their assets in India, withdraw money from banks, stop investments in India, etc which will eventually have an adverse impact on Indian economy which is highly dependent on it. Have the govt evaluated these consequences? Besides, Indian Rupee is weakening day by day and countries much younger then India have developed far more with good policies. Where are we heading? This is indeed a concerning matter.

    I agree totally with Radharao Gracious. He is speaking to the point that those Goans who are born prior to 1961 are Portuguese citizen, and at the same time Indian after Goa was liberated from the Portuguese rule and was annexed on 17th December 1961.

    People should not abuse the law by misusing the government benefits. I got my registration done in 2019, could not travel to Portugal due to Covid but did travel to India twice but still did not get fined because I was told by the OCI officer that the government is not charging any fine for the people till the end of December 2023. I got my OCI without any hassle. I think it’s the passport officer in Goa who is not properly informed or it could be that the citizenship is revoked because people are not surrendering their passport to get obtain benefit from the government. Law is law and that must be followed. What Mr. Radharoa is saying must be confirmed by the government in writing in the case of Goans till it’s not confirmed these are mere talks which does not help people in reality.

    This new rule of not granting OCI applies only for Goan's acquiring Portuguese passport or all Indians citizens? Because other states like Kerela, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Andra Pradesh, Gujarat have much higher frequency of voluntarily renouncing their Indian citizenship after living for years in foreign countries whereas Goans are granted this right through their ancestors. So the HC must throughly review cases of Exceptions if they wish to continue with this rule and provide fair judgment accordingly.

      @@saraswatkin9226 While it is true that Goa was a Portuguese colony for a significant period, it is important to clarify that Portugal was not forcibly "kicked out" of India. The process of Goa gaining independence from Portuguese rule was a result of diplomatic negotiations and political developments.
      In the mid-20th century, India was undergoing a movement for independence from British colonial rule, led by figures like Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters. The liberation of Goa from Portuguese rule was a part of this broader movement for independence.
      In 1961, the Indian government launched a military operation known as Operation Vijay to reclaim Goa and other Portuguese territories in India. This operation resulted in the annexation of Goa by India. It is crucial to note that this event was a political and military action rather than a forceful expulsion of the Portuguese.
      Understanding historical events and their context is important to avoid misconceptions.

    • @cledwynfernandes9493
      @cledwynfernandes9493 Před 6 měsíci

      It's understandable that historical events can be viewed from various perspectives, and it's important to remember that every nation has had a role in shaping the world as we know it today. Portugal is no exception.
      The Age of Discovery, which began in the 15th century, is largely attributed to Portugal. It was a period of intense exploration that significantly contributed to the world's knowledge about geography, navigation, and other cultures. It was Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama who first found a maritime route from Europe to India, opening up vast opportunities for trade and cultural exchange that hadn't existed before.
      In addition to this, the Portuguese also made significant contributions to science, particularly in the fields of cartography and navigation. The creation of more accurate maps and the development of navigational instruments like the astrolabe and quadrant were key to the success of many exploration voyages.
      Moreover, Portugal was a melting pot of different cultures and thus played a crucial role in the exchange of ideas, art, and culture. For instance, the Portuguese introduced the chili pepper to India, which has since become a cornerstone of Indian cuisine.
      While it is true that colonial history is marked by conflict and exploitation, we should not overlook the ways in which it has shaped the world and contributed to the diversity and interconnectedness we experience today. It's important to approach history with a balanced perspective, acknowledging both the negative and positive impacts that have been left behind.

That much of salary will never ever get anywhere, so it's completely the personal private choice to work and receive your salary, either Rs. 10K or Rs.2 Lakhs per month, that's the huge ennomous difference of earning in a very short period of time. If you work for just 10K, you will never ever possible to buy a normal car also, forget about the land and house. So it's happening through out the entire world., it's not an big issue, it's your personal private choice., for the life in abundance.

    Portuguese authorities do not come to Goa to find out who is born in Goa. A person informs and applies for . So it becomes clear that he volunteers to cease to be citizen of India and should be treated as such. Why should they be treated differently.

      No, the parents of those Goans born before 1961 registered their births with the local authorities in Goa (registration of births, marriages and deaths with the government was made compulsory during Portuguese rule). A copy of the records was also sent to Lisbon. It's these older Goans who are being targeted by the government.

    Just curious...why do you want both citizenships? Choose a country and make a go at it there. It appears that all these unfortunates want to have a backup plan. Is it in case the caste (race) conscious Portuguese discriminates, they want to be able to run back to mama? Why did they fail in India and want to go to the country of their oppressors?

    • @cg8397
      @cg8397 Před 5 měsíci

      Ghanttis also hold two citizenships secretly (I've observed Gujarati bania individuals holding both British and Indian passports) but the government isn't targeting ghanttis. Government has some kind of mental hangup about Goans and Portugal. Ghanttis are also race conscious and oppressive, notably the Dharmic Dindoos that have been flooding into Goa since the last century. The government also imposed Reservation Policy in Goa so that the native Catholic majority would automatically get locked out of government jobs and colleges and replaced by the Dharmic Dindoo immigrants.
